Aarhus Jazz Orchestra blev grundlagt i 1977 af Jens Klüver, først under navnet “Bred Ymer” og senere som “Klüvers Big Band” - et navn, der vækker genklang hos de fleste danske jazzkendere. Med Jens Klüver i spidsen udviklede orkestret sig fra at være et hobby-bigband, til at være et af de vigtigste bigbands på den skandinaviske jazzscene.
I 2012 skiftede orkestret navn til Aarhus Jazz Orchestra og har fortsat udvidet sit virkeområde og aktivitetsniveau. Orkestret er nu en åben og samarbejdende kulturinstitution, der, med koncertvirksomhed, formidling og talentudvikling på tværs af genrer og aktører, udgør en dynamo for et aktivt og levende musikliv - lokalt, regionalt og internationalt.
Med et særligt fokus på jazz og rytmisk samtidsmusik spiller Aarhus Jazz Orchestra mere end 80 koncerter om året, og med alt fra skole- og ældrekoncerter, til højprofilerede kunstneriske udviklingsprojekter, henvender orkestret sig til et mangfoldigt publikum i alle aldre.
