The Trainspotting One is a trainspotting (surprisingly!) RUclips channel which allows use of any of my footage under CC-BY 4.0. This means that you're allowed to use and edit any of my footage, even for commercial purposes, as long as you give me credit.
Hopefully this way, I will be able to share the joy I find in my work with many others.

A new life for SWR's 458s
Просмотров 10528 дней назад
Yes. Another one. Somehow these majorly-faulty trains are still going and they haven't given up. These were never meant to enter service. SWR were only refurbishing them because it was cheaper than the cost of pulling out of the maintenance contract, but they have, however only on suburban workings instead of the Portsmouth Direct Line, as intended. This is likely because of the large shortage ...

      This used to be 2P71 - 2145 departure from London Waterloo to Haslemere, however, because of the lack of 458s (what with them all being withdrawn for /4 conversion), I think this is now normally done with a 450 (though that may be wrong). If you're looking for some other slightly rare 458 stuff, there's one which goes down the Guildford via Epsom on weekdays, for the full day, or rarer, the 0701 Dorking to London Waterloo (1D12) is meant to be a 458, weekdays only (though I think it used to do Saturdays too, I may be wrong). Hopefully some of that helps! :)

    The current train 🚂 🚊 🚆 company is called SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 since August 2017 for almost 😅 7 years this August. If the franchise changes that it loses its franchise named SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 , perhaps 🤔 it might become GWR - Great Western Railway 🚃. Both GWR - Great Western Railway 🚃 and SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 runs its services everyday including public holidays except Christmas 🎄🎅 🧑‍🎄 🤶 Day and Boxing 🥊 Day. 👍

    when the class 455 is actually a 317

  • @packkeysthomasshrimpton
    @packkeysthomasshrimpton 3 месяца назад

    Not sure how in any possible way you'd think a 455 is better than this. It's such a massive improvement for the commuter. They have air conditioning (probably the biggest improvement), toilets, walk through carriages, a more spacious interior with a lot more standing room, plug sockets and usb ports at every seat, more grab polls, more capacity, much better acceleration, wider doors, mini tables at the group seats, modern LCD displays etc. 455s have none of those things, and the rest of the fleet doesn't have a lot of them. If you believe the 701 is worse, you are clearly not a daily commuter on this network. You hold zero argument to say that this train from the 80s which turns into an oven in the summer is better.

    • @thetrainspottingone
      @thetrainspottingone 3 месяца назад

      From my experience, the 701s seem very temperamental and tacky. From the drivers I've spoken to, they're not particularly nice to drive and they've entered service way into their service life, due to significant faults. I have absolutely no problem with other people's opinions, however mine is justified from my (admittedly little) experience.

    • @packkeysthomasshrimpton
      @packkeysthomasshrimpton 3 месяца назад

      @@thetrainspottingone You still can't deny it's an improvement for passengers, and passenger experience is the main goal in a train. I think any passenger would rather air conditioning over no air conditioning. I've been a commuter on SWR for 20 years and I've always tried to avoid the 455s because of that and their lack of toilets as well as their poor ambience with their extremely loud motors and no sound isolation.

    • @thetrainspottingone
      @thetrainspottingone 3 месяца назад

      @@packkeysthomasshrimpton Maybe, I'm indifferent from a general commuter point of view, however, as a whole train, they're not exactly much better either.

    For the record, I still don't like the 43s! I know, it's controversial, but I think they're over-hyped and that nostalgia plays a part in them being as popular as they are. They ride relatively well considering, but still, I don't like the fanbase they attract or the massive hype over them. Feel free to discuss, I'm sure many people will have a different opinion...

      Yup, normally at Reading they go along to the SWML and go via Basingstoke and Winchester, and then on to Southampton Central. However, engineering works meant they were diverted at Reading down via Guildford before going around the PML to Southampton Central. So not *incredibly* rare... just not normal.
