What if anything is being done regarding crime on Russel Island?
I wish they would build a bridge. I like to take my car and go shopping on the Gold Coast. But who can afford $110 each way!! Not me!!
I LOVE Russell Is!
The government has clearly stated that there will never be a bridge. It is not feasible economically nor environmentally.
Go work but they can't water electricity or nothing hahahaha
; More and more destruction of Russell Island. A real estate land grab for profit. CRAP ON INFRASTRUCTURE
Well stated! Almost 5 years ago and nothing has changed.
Excuse
No job cut them all off
If you struggle if you can't get a job it's not their fault you say no job they get caught off I'm sorry mate if they're doing a tough they should remain on the doll for now if you have a problem shut your mouth boy I know some people are on the doll find it hard and getting work that's fine but I'm sorry mate people are doing tough
Cut them off fuck em
Listen to this lady pure fact laming take note
Unemployment is grossly understated. If a person needs a full-time job to feed their family and gets a part time job even one day a week they are no longer unemployed. But they are certainly under employed.
Yes, underemployment and casualisation of the workforce keeps us paralysed.
There is a move to have a bridge built to Russell which I think will ruin the island atmosphere. Why go live on an island than complain there is no bridge ?
That has been mooted for 30 years, with the amount of traffic and the homes that are being built, it's short sighted to think the boats will be able to cope. There should be a bridge
The system is broken not everyone can work it’s unrealistic, to degrade them shows immaturity. Maybe people want to enjoy life! Who wants to live in a rat race working everyday and stressing in a unnatural lifestyle, I have a part time job and stay at home mum too but I don’t like to judge and be snobby to those who can’t work or just need a different way of living for their own sanity..
I thought australia was a free country people should be able to live where they like.
Maybe it’s a Green rat hole.
I fully support the construction of a bridge on Russell island and from Rocky Point. A bridge, would greatly benefit both the residents and the business people. The factual facts, can no longer be ignored that an alternative way off the island by a bridge is far overdue. This is vital, not only for further economic development but also for the safety and well-being of the island’s residents. It is well known that by having only one way off the island, many people's lives will be at a high risk if there is a natural disaster or a worse pandemic. The current outdated barge service, provided by Sea Link, is becoming increasingly inadequate to meet the demands of the rapid increase of island resident’s needs. The vessels are in poor condition, full of rust and they have nil facility for people with disability, children and the elderly. Hence the construction of a bridge is a vital necessity and is not a just whim.
Move to Bribie
Delete the dole.
The best thing about having no bridge is the people that come here with unreal expectations soon move back to the mainland and leave the more realistic thinkers behind
@Andrew Walker - have you thought or considered all the benefits that a bridge would bring to the island residents??? Not only for the development of the local economy, but also in relation of health and safety. Do you know that the sewerage system on the island can become a health hazard with the increased population? Do you know how hard and expensive it is for older people to travel to the mainland for specialist appointments and the same for those having dialysis, cancer or similar pathologies?. Do you know that there are lots of single mothers , older people, etc who can't afford rent in the city? I suppose in your limited and ill informed view on the bridge, you don't' consider or have any empathy for some or above issues.
@@lauralara6937 Yes I have thought of many of the benefit a bridge could possible bring, I wouldn't claim to know all possibilities. Have you thought of all the detrimental consequences that a bridge could bring? I find that when economy is put forward as a first priority that quaility of life for the majority suffers. Are you aware that a bridge will destroy the nature of the island and turn it into another suburb of anonymous residents more susceptible to crime that anonymity encourages. I am well aware of the need to upgrade the sewerage system. I am also aware that a bridge is not required to achieve that. Being an elderly person myself I do have a degree of understanding of the difficulty that choosing to live on an island brings. Your response to lots of single mothers , older people, etc who can't afford rent in the city seems to be to sabotage the cheap rent and land prices that attracted them here by building a bridge for your own gain. I SUPPOSE IN YOUR LIMITED AND ILL INFORMED VIEW ON THE BRIDGE, YOU DON'T' CONSIDER OR HAVE ANY EMPATHY FOR SOME OR ABOVE ISSUES. It may come as a surprise to you that your last sentence leaves me thinking it applies more to you than it does to me.
@@lauralara6937move if you don't like being on a island
Solid plan - pay peanuts for one of the countless vacant blocks of land on a mosquito-infested shithole, then expect the state government to spend 100's of millions of dollars on unnecessary infrastructure. Good luck with that
Nothing has change since then and nothing will change unless the island residents become proactive and start voicing their concerns and making other residents aware of the vital need of having an alternative transport system off the island. The residents also need a 24horus medical center and............. there is no medical center, there is no boat ramp at Rocky Point, , there is no cable barge and of course there is no bridge, only empty promises, however we still have the same politicians working on their behalf not ours.
We need a bridge!
Great video, but whats with the serial killer music vibe??😅
This is a bit stupid. The islands ecosystems are not able to support the maximum development provided by the subdivision layout. A bride would be a disaster. The increased population would destroy the island.
Are an expert on ecosystems and other related issues???? or is this just an emotional argument, without any facts or evidences to justify your statements.
Home 🏠 sweet Home 🏠
We don't all want a bridge!! We bought at Rocky Point because it's nice and quiet - I don't want a 2 lane bridge to land on my bloody doorstop! There was no bridge when these people moved to the island so why constantly whinge!!!
Nearly 5 years since this was posted and about time the Government acts and starts to build the bridge to this wonderful place. Why disown these people, why trap them, why do they have no escape route from fires, if a major fire breaks out, no one would get off the island. With the recent fires across Australia a major push should be now be presented to the state government for the bridge. The broken promises in the 70;s should be now met. Watch how it will grow if word a bridge is going ahead.
There goes ACA punching down again, at the powerless and irrelevant. Way to challenge the powers that be ripping off and selling out australia, what next will they chase up some homeless man for not properly filing taxes on his "panhandling earnings". ACA journalism is like fully grown adults playing soccer against an under 8's match, only taking on easy targets lmao
If I owned a house on Russell Island, I'd want a bridge too! The moment one is approved, property prices will double
We do need the bridge to connect the island to the mainland and the world. Thanks again for the video
If a bridge arrives and there is a run on building there will be sewerage that will to be paid for, by property owners. Doubling the property price will just about break even.
Well and truthfully said. We are in the process of selling our block of land as we do not see a future in the SMBI after having lived there for longer than seven years and were shocked at the estimated value of our land. Similar land would fetch in excess of $400 000 on the mainland. We stand with you Alby whom I have known for many years. It seems to be of interest of developers to keep property values down thus letting the SMBI reach third world standards and the Redlands Council is not helping by consistent use of "band aid" methods to address serious issues brought to their attention eg road and signage and bush wildfire prevention development to name but a few development issues.
I went to Russell islsnd once and all sore on the ferry were feral people. It turned me right off buying on that island. Its the same thing with lamb, macleay and coochimudlo island. No Thanks. I bet break and enters are high on the islands.
That's right, you came once. lol I have lived here for 2 years and met millionaires to old aged pensioners and everyone in between. The population is diverse but I would say mostly retired people living a relaxing life by the Bay and enjoying the sea breeze and quiet lifestyle.
This guy is dumb
Lots of pple cant afford to live on the gold coast. The islands need a few more ferries to cope with demand and a few more care barges as well. I think bridges would ruin the natural beauty and destroy the life style of the islands.
A bridge is not likely to ever be an impediment to the island status. It was dodgy in the 70's. Then Straddie became a National Park. That was the end of any chance of bridging. Remember it was only ever Russell Island that was a possibility of a bridge.
All because of the Lima agreement.
she is a disturbed negative miss informed idiot , so I guess we should throw unemployed people out of every regional center then the reason you get a high concentration of unemployed is because of many factors . you will never have full employment in any country under the modern economic system and they know this and so the take a very grubby approach to deflect this fact and create social economic polarization it is a very sick and evil policy of western governments especially in Australia this is nothing new and old tactic and works very well when you have a nation with assholes like this restated hate fill women
Getting worse Now in November 2018 getting worse, congestion is life threatening. Laming doesn't even know the council crappy re-marketing name for the islands. Only cost $600m of ratepayers money. Redlands Coast Islands FFS
Someone needs to bloody that bitches nose for real. That might teach her where not to stick it.
You don't need a bridge. It will destroy the island culture. Listen if you want to work in the city live in Brisbane. You can;t have both. You'll will over populate the island and create too much traffic
If there not living off you its none of your business
Funny how you ignore that there are whole suburbs in Brisbane where there is a high dependency on welfare. Many of those on welfare are not there by choice as jobs go overseas and 457 Visa holders are brought in by companies citing the lie 'We cannot find qualified staff in Australia'. These companies are predominately foreign owned and seek work for there own people only.
Not much will change unless ratepayers seek legal advice which takes money, now me and my wife are willing to put up to $2000 if other rate payers are willing to do the same for legal advice/representation on behalf of island ratepayers which have been paying too much for too little. And can someone post this proposal at Russell Island Queensland Bridge Supporters group as i do not have a facebook account though i follow the page often.
I was under the impression in order to be eligible for 'dole' payments you had to be actively seeking work, but from the sounds of it, that's not a possibility for people on the dole who live on this island, due to the expense of simply going back and forth to the mainland. So my question is, why have their dole payments not been cut? I'd love to be able to live on a beautiful island and not have to look for work, all at the expense of the government but it's not really beneficial to the country as a whole, is it?
dude you need to investigate these issues a little deeper because it is a routing system for all the employment providers and a way to divert attention away from fail government economic policies
Queensland State Government MP Kim Richards was not invited to this shamble of a public meeting. Place of meeting incorrect, Street address of actual meeting incorrect.... All speakers late and used Coast Guard to bring all of the group of Pollies and Optus and Telstra managers to Russell Island. No, the ferry is not good enough, but what would have happened if there had been an emergency call out for Coast Guard.... Typical of our Fed MP, couldn't organise a tea party in a .....
Really? Two years and still no ports? I hate to see politicians pat themselves on the back for substandard solutions. Is Telstra going to do anything about the semi-functional tower or the ports? We are isolated and should be a PRIORITY.
In 5 mins i found 5 jobs ! Lol for an experienced chef? Would hardly call that a job you can walk up and get i would love to see what that old bird did for work back in her day it's really funny when people like this complain and yet she has never worked a proper job in her life i agree that the people on this island need to find work but they should be forced to find work not just be allowed to chill and day smoke cones and crack or whatever they do and Centrelink should be making sure they are handing out at least 30 plus job applications a week !!! And give them access to cheaper ferry fares. Or better yet take 50 dollars a week from the penison for ferry fares until they find a job if they look hard enough and Centrelink without being dicks but nicely and genuinely actually try and help theses people it would be so much better instead of just saying get a job what the fuck is your job then centrelink?
A bit weird isn't it? To move to an island, to then demand a bridge. It literally baffles me. Move to the coast! Obviously has not looked at the big picture. People will start going there for no other reason than to flood it with over fishing and crab potting, leaving the locals with minimal...oh wait, this has happened before? Where...oh just about every Australian island...tourist, tourist, tourist. It won't boom, it will become a problem and the economy there won't be able to support it. But I guess its easy for a rich, foreign, man to say. Clearly lacks the appreciation for the land and the people. It's all about them.
I agree... a bridge will wreck these beautiful islands. Why move to an island if you want to live on the mainland (which is what a bridge will make them)?
If you can't handle living on an island and the hassles that some find a joy, then don't live there. Simple. Fuck off with the bridge idea. Talk about trying to ruin a community and become sheep. Conformists to the rest of the herd. To my understanding, that's not why a lot of people live on Russell. Oh but just try and ruin that for the rest of us. Have a city job, tough it up buttercup! Like fuck, could you be more selfish, narrow minded and and down right big headed. I don't think a video has made me angrier. I'll make sure I'm the leader of the epic protest that will ensue if this goes under way.
Is it possible to use private boat to travel to mainland ?
government wont pay for anything anymore unless they make money out of it.they are to serve us but only seem to worrie about there popularity.try Transurburn (they own our motorways in the southeast aka Go via) they might build a toll bridge. $50 one way for Toowoomba bypass could only guess that would be something crazy for your bridge too!!
