What I love most about the film, apart from the fact that it is set in the 80s, is that it is not a gay film and it shows that two men can fall in love without being gay. It may sound strange, but sometimes love is only about the person, not just the gender. What always bothers me is this stereotyping that you have to be straight, gay or lesbian. You can also fall in love with someone of the same sex, but that doesn't necessarily happen again afterwards. The two fell in love with each other and found something in each other that will stay with them their whole lives. The fact that they are two men is completely irrelevant and is not even addressed. And together with the music and the lack of a happy ending, it is a wonderful cry-cry film. All good actors and a beautiful set.

I think this scene shows Elio digesting what his dad told him to not block out the hurt but to allow it so the love can also shine through and not be lost to darkness. You can see the conflicting emotions. That scene with his dad's talk was so heart warming. What a great dad ❤

But yesterday I watched it again and held my self not to cry, just to feel how to watch someone breakdown in front of me but it doesn’t affect me but in the end after the series when his parents called him Elio, I lost it and I cried a lot😭
