Using an Embroidery Needle Plate Cover
Any guidance on removing plate A with the goal of replacing the take-up spring? The wire on my take-up sprint for threading broke.
You are one of the few people who threaded this machine correctly. Thank you
Thank you.
Do you need to do this as maintenance periodically?
No, there is no need to do this as a periodic maintenance check. It can be a last resort if you have done everything you can to fix a tension issue. I would do it if I thought thread was stuck in the tension assembly or if the tension assembly was damaged.
can you show up close where to thread through the tension disk? I can’t find where the thread needs to go through
I plan to do another video that focuses on the the tension assembly. I will include a close-up of the take-up spring in that video.
@@md2992 thank you !
hello very beautiful video please kindly film how to operate the sewing machine electric foot pedal how its used to sew please kindly reply back ok?thank you very much 😊
Thank you. Do you have a question about the foot pedal for this machine?
How about using Super Lube multi-use synthetic oil instead of sewing machine oil? Sailrite recommends it for their machines.
Sailrite recommends both Super Lube and a sewing machine oil. The Super Lube is recommended for long storage of your machine, and sewing machine oil is recommended for daily oiling of your machine. The sewing machine oil is used for more frequent oling of your machine. If you have a self-oiling machine then you would also use sewing machine oil not a lubricant. The Singer Touch and Sew 603 is not a self-oiling machine, so the instructions in the manual is for the user to use a lubricant (which lasts longer than sewing machine oil) on the large metal gears and sewing machine oil on the small moving parts that require daily oiling or oiling after each sewing project. The lubricant would also be more likely to stain your fabric if you used it to oil the take-up lever bar or the bobbin housing case..
@@md2992 you’re right. I looked that up on their site right after I made that comment. I’d gotten that idea from them years ago and have used it on all my machines since, but I’ll switch back to oil now. Thanks.
Super Lube is the same as Tri-Flow lube.. I have used both..
Yes, they are the same. I have another video using Tri-Flow on another machine. They are both synthetic grease and either one can be used to lubricate your sewing machine's metal gears.
OMG that’s so much simpler than on my VQ2! wow!!! Thank you so much for posting!!!!!
Thank you for watching, and I'm glad I was able to help.
Great help! Thank you!
You are welcome!
What a fine video! Thank you.
Thank you so much!
My bobbin ran out a few inches from the end of a project and this video was so easy and helpful! Thank you! I and my project are greatly appreciative. 😊
I am glad you found the video helpful.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you.
Can you please tell me which disc does the thread go in between. Can find the answer to that.
Place the thread between the 1st and 2nd disc. If you are sewing with a twin needle, you would place the first thread between discs 2 and 3 and the second thread between discs 1 and 2.
Hello. Thank you for this video. Just bought a Singer 500 and the bobbin winder is not spinning. Any suggestions?
The problem could be something as simple as thread caught in the winder preventing it from spinning.. You can remove the cover to check for thread that might be attached to the assembly. If You don't see thread, you may have to remove the bobbin winder assembly. I have pasted a RUclips video for you to view. If you decide to replace the assembly, make sure you take photos of the assembly before you begin. You can find parts for this machine on SewingMachindPlus.com I hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/P2ROdLM5zmE/видео.html
The bobbin winders on the # 500 are very problematic.. I can fix them but I prefer the # 401, which is simpler. I am selling all my # 500 machines on eBay..
I wish you would have shown the direction the disks are to face together? Otherwise very goodZ I’ll guess and redo if it doesn’t work.
Thank you. At 3:01 and 3:42, you can see which side the discs face, the raised side. If your discs do not have a raised side, then either side will work.
Thank you for this. I got this machine at a garage sale and my tension dial isn't tight, it keeps drifting as I sew. I'm going to take it apart (again) and use your tutorial (again) and make this thing work. You rock the Catskills, thank you so much!!!!!!!
I hope you get it to work! These are such nice machines.
This is so very AWSOME!!YOU ROCK! I inherited my 603 when my mother in law passed. I just love her. This helps me understand the machine. Still learning it. ❤
Thank you. I'm glad the video has helped you. These are wonderful machines that produce beautiful stitches.
😂❤😂
I have never seen embroidery like this..its kinda weird…
good job
Thank you.
OMG! Huge difference! It sounds so smooth after your treatment. Thank you for your video.❤
That is exactly how I felt when I applied it to my sewing machine for the first time. I'm glad to know it works for your machine, too.
Hi, I just bought one from a thrift store. Is this model still good?
Without seeing the machine, I can't tell you if it's in working condition. I bought my machine from the goodwill, but I was able to test it before purchasing. These are wonderful machines that produce beautiful stitches.
@@md2992 thanks so much for replying. I also got mine from goodwill. It turns on and works. Was just wondering if it was a good buy for resale.
Thank you!!!! This is a fantastic video. You are the only person who shows how to thread this part. Thank you.
Sorry it has taken me this long to respond. Thank you, and I'm glad I was able to help.
What is the purpose of releasing the handwheel? It looks like you only loosen it a 1/4 turn.
Good question. Releasing the wheel prevents the take-up lever from moving, so the needle can't move up and down while the bobbin is winding. I had probably released it before I filmed the video.
@@md2992 So if my needle is still moving up and down when I wind a bobbin, I have not loosened it enough? I probably need to get the 500a professionally cleaned as I had trouble loosening the wheel.
Thanks! Very helpful!
Thank you. I'm glad you found it helpful
I shared your video with my quilting friends. What type of hat hoop do you use?
I no longer have that Embroidery machine, but used the 5x7 hoop that came with the machine to embroider the hats.
Thank you so much for your video 😊 I’m so glad I found it because I was having trouble with my tension, just a question is it normal that when I lift my presser foot the tension on my discs stays the same? I’ve inside and there’s no metal piece connecting the presser foot to the discs, do you have info about this? Thanks 🙏🏼
When you raise and lower your presser foot your tension and discs should not move. The unit that houses the tension disc's will push in when you lower the presser foot and push out when you raise the presser foot but should not affect the tension. Just make sure the tension dial is screwed in correctly; otherwise, the discs will move.
Great tutorial, do you know how the disassembly and reassembly corrected your problem? Was it simply the cleaning process that improved the function? Thank you again, great video
Thank you! The machine actually needed to be disassembled and reassembled. The stop washer was in the 12 o'clock position instead of the 6 o'clock position. As a result, the tension dial would turn from 0-4 instead of 0-9. I was able to adjust the tension dial to the correct tension I needed, and I didn't need to pull out 6-8 inches of thread to begin sewing.
Oh que fofo ele tá feliz ❤️😍😘🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I don't see where you brought your classic 66 bobbin. You said the ones at Joann where not that good. So where can I buy the one you have. Thanks
The part no. Is 172222. You can purchase them from an online sewing store called Sewing Parts Online.
Thank you so much! I have loved my workhorse touch and sew 603 E for years. It was my mother's, and has never failed me, but suddenly I had to set the tension at 9 for everything. This let me disassemble and reassemble the thread tension assembly and get back on track. Awesome video.
I am glad the video helped you solve the problem, so you can focus on your project and not the tension. Happy sewing!
I just bought a 500A in beautiful condition for $25. This was a great help to me so thank you!
I'm glad the video helped you. These machines sew out beautiful stitches. Happy sewing!
Thank you so much for this video or I would have had to contact Brother on how to install it! I bought a used Innovis 4000D and I was told on a forum I really needed this. I got it a few days ago, with no instructions.
You are welcome. I am glad to know that the video helped you. Happy sewing!

Just an FYI Super Lube should not be used on polycarbonate or polystyrene plastics or natural rubber. Their website has a compatibility list for plastics and elastomers. You're not likely to find polystyrene or polycarbonate plastics inside a sewing machine though.
The Singer 603 has all metal gears not plastic. The Owner's manual for this machine clearly states that a lubricant NOT sewing machine oil is needed to lubricate the gears.
Good
Algún tutorial en español
this was wonderful and precise, thank you so much, was able to use this information to fix tension on my 600E
Thank you for watching. I am glad you were able to get the tension fixed on your machine.
Excellent "how-to" communication, a rare quality in this day and age. Am trying to get my aged mother's Singer 603E going again. After going online to find and replace the broken bobbin case with a used one (even used parts are very pricey on this older machine as Singer no longer makes them) I noticed how loose the thread tension assembly was. I will try this!
I hope it helps.
Inherited a Singer Slant O'Matic and discovered when it's plugged in it runs by itself (w/out pressing presser foot or anything). Help?
It might be an electrical problem. You would need to have it checked out by a professional sewing machine repair person.
I would love a follow up about the two different brands of lubricants. Now that a couple of years have passed, can you tell a difference?
M D No, there is no difference between the two. I ordered Triflow online, and the next day I saw that Ace hardware sold Super Lube. I decided to try both on different machines. There is no noticeable difference.
What size bobbin and type need get for singer 500a
The part number for this machine is Singer 172222. If you google this part number, several merchants will show, Amazon is one of the merchants.
Thank you .you been so much help we have singer 500a. And it had 1 bobbin.and 2 needle so that try get it my grategrandma and we have my grandma white rotary trudle wich was her grandmother. And white modle43 1 electric sewing machines. It was my mom grat grandma. But now singer 500a I try find light balubs . Thank you for the info. Your video are so much help approached
Well done. Beautifully explained. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Do you have any videos on tips for adjusting. The stitching is not as straight as it should be.
No, I do not have a video on adjusting the stitch. Do you have the correct disc (straight stitch) in the machine?
Thank you for the straight forward demo. I had a broken tension assembly and have been waiting for 2 month for repair tech. Saw this video. fixed the assembly my self. It sews like a dream. this was mom and my original machine. Still sews beautifully. circa 1964ish.
I am so glad you found the video helpful! You saved yourself money by doing the repair yourself!
My needle wont pick up my bobbin thread on this model, help!!
This usually happens when the top thread is incorrectly threaded or the bobbin is not placed in the case properly. Also make sure your needle is not bent.
