Grind Leetcode or Build Projects?

Not really a hot take, but I wanted to offer a bit more of a nuanced perspective on this topic.

stop watching finance youtubers (Graham Stephan, Dave Ramsey, Meet Kevin)

a while back i fell into the trap of watching finance youtubers like Graham Stephan, Dave Ramsey, and Meet Kevin thinking they were helping me get ahead in life... turns out they don't exactly help with where I currently am in life.
good to see you active again, great video and great takes
More vids to come in 2025
nice to see
Get interview - > resume/projects/network/referral/other extra curricular Pass interview -> leetcode/system design/programming trivia/behavioural
Well said.
You'll get there. I learned to not think about levels ha. When you think you've made it in your own pond and then put into an ocean, you realize you haven't learned anything. Good luck on your dev journey.
Thanks! Much appreciated!
Hi there young man I'm over a decade older than you, so take my advice with a grain of salt. 1. Cut the credit cards out of your life or you'll be saying "money is everything to me" very very soon. 2. For your new channel. BE GENUINE. Be yourself, don't click bait and don't be Jack of all trades, focus on one topic and delve into it. Few videos and far in between is much better. P.S I'm not a content creator. 3. I want to advise about people but I'm stuck. I don't want to scare you and I don't want you to have the wrong idea, i.e their are more good people than bad per se. Just don't give up till you find the gems among us. Then truely consider lucky وبالله التوفيق
Just grind out leetcode a few days out of the week and work on projects for the rest. You don't need to do a million problems but you also don't need to do a million projects
I think for trying to get interviews, Leetcode is definitely the meta, but I agree with the fact that over a long term view, having stronger engineering skills will get you further in life. But for people trying to just land an internship or job, I think grinding leetcode could be the way to go.
I would actually say for “getting” interviews, your best bet is to perfect your resume. Leetcode abilities only matter after you are in the interviewing process. Now if we ask how to perfect a resume, in my opinion one of those ways is to highlight projects that solve real problems if you don’t have experience.
Don’t listen to this guy LOL
Leetcode is still a better way to interview
Wait a second, if Netflix and Amazon hire engineers who are the best at leetcode and can implement anything in O(-n) why the hell are FireTV and Netflix so laggy? Finding substrings in a tree didn't help? Modern software is a lagfest
Do you even know what leetcode is for? It's used to filter people to really select the ones who can actually code. If you can't solve a basic question, how are you expected to solve real world life problems. And who told you leetcode can solve lag issues?
@ “actually code” doesn’t include “solving lag issues”? or rather not producing them in the first place?
@@corepunch You don’t make any sense
Big companies ask harder leetcode questions. Noone cares about real world engineering skills. Those can be learned
The same could be said about leetcode. The amount of data structures and algorithms are limited. Yeah there are some hard algos out there, yeah coming up with the solution in a given time constraints is not everyone's cup of tea. But it can be learnt. My take is if you have built "real" real world projects you will come across many of the data structures and will have a higher level view on it than being constrained to DSA ~= LEETCODE grind.
I hear what you are saying, but I prefaced my video saying for people who don't have their foot in the door yet. Most "big companies" won't even bat an eye at your resume unless you have prior experience of some kind. From my interviewing experience and from those I have talked to, a genuine passion and ability to actually build projects is more valuable for getting your foot in the door then being able to reverse a linked list. That's not to say that you shouldn't know how to reverse a linked list, but as I mentioned in this video, anyone in 2024/2025 can reverse a linked list, it's not a special skill. What is a special skill is ideating and building something to solve a real problem.
i don't believe in problem solving being a super global skill. I would really only do this if you plan to take DSA interviews in the future. Then it's probably easily worth it, because being good at leetcode yields like a $50k difference in your total comp
Didn't really mention this in my video, but from my understanding DSA is more of a junior/younger engineer type of thing. As I progress more in my career the goal will shift to more system design, real world engineering skills, and actual career accomplishments.
@ then what's the point of learning leetcode patterns
@@remains2246 yeah you are right
@@remains2246 Even at higher levels they tend to ask LeetCode questions along with the other things I mentioned. There's also the part of me that wants to get good at something that most people find difficult.

Can you tell me how much is the application fee for master international students in George mason university??
Not sure to be honest, but I'm sure the information is readily available online. I will say that international fees in general are usually a lot more expensive than what in-state/non-international students pay.
This video is so fucking true. Ali Abdaal used to do affiliate marketing and a bunch of other spammy businesses before he hit it big with productivity and made an entire business out of it. They were always in it just to sell you bullshit
What’s the brand of protein powder? All the ones I’ve tried are so nasty
the one i use right now (not in the video) is a grass fed whey protein from Z Natural Foods. This one is a lot cleaner and doesn't have unneeded preservatives. The one from the video is the optimum nutrition's vanilla whey protein. That one is decent, but it has some preservatives that can mess w/ your gut. I recommend the one I mentioned above.
hey bro if i have to choose among cs in george mason and george washington which will be the best option to land up with good salary as i am a fresher.
Depends on what profession you want man
Entirely depends on how you feel either of those schools will fit your career goals. It also depends on kind of environment you want to live in during college. George Mason still has a more suburban feel since it's in the middle of Fairfax, whereas George Washington is in the heart of downtown DC. Both are very different environments.
It's a business. They've decided to focus in those areas to make a living. It seems lots of people are interested in it, else, they wouldn't continue doing it.
Nice simple setup
Hello , can you please tell me if we can extend a course which is for 12months, MS in business analytics in GMU is for 12months is it possible to extend the course?
yoo thats the Dulles south rec center
I'm going to nova for computer science and planning to transfer to gmu, any advice before starting the major? i don't know much on how to code but I'm willing to learn all of it.
Practice Java and C
Pick one language and get really good at it. Make this your interviewing language and the programming language your brain thinks in (for me this is Python). Once you can master one language really well, you can pickup other languages they introduce you to at GMU like Java, C, etc really easily. The logic is all the same, only difference is syntax. Once you know loops, conditions, variables, data types, and basic data structures, that's all you really need to solve coding related problems in any language.
Forgot the box of tissues... trust me you'll need it lol
Hey mam want to contact to you. Are you on any social media so that we can connect?
I wasn't even listening to or buying anything from them, but stumbled across one of these guys and I thought it was dumb. They'd expand what you're saying into a 2 hour course to sell for $1000.
Think and grow rich is also a good book to read for self improvement
Could you please tell how much does it cost for cs in gmu and how's the life for cs student....
I'm going to gmu soon for electrical eng, its similar to CS gmu costs about $20,000 to $30,000 depending if you'll live on campus
Thick thick ass honey😂😂
Hey mam want to contact to you. Are you on any social media so that we can connect?
Food combining police arrest this person!
Nice, started off here in Fall of 2022
Hey man, how are internships like at GMU that are related to software engineering\dev?
I don't have personal experience with an internship, so I don't want to misinform you, but from what I do know GMU has job fairs and it does a good job at bringing in reps from big companies in the DC/NOVA area. Linkedin also shows people who've gone to GMU working at the typical big tech companies (FAANG). Hope this response helps answer your question.
@@megzmugz i’m currently a senior in high-school looking to get in gmu so i was wondering how is the inter ship experience is like as a software engineer or that if you know anyone with current intership and how it’s going for them
to be totally honest, I don't personally know anyone w/ an internship rn, but going on reddit is a great way to talk to those who hv internships from gmu.
Like ur video man, m also a CS major at GMU too.
thanks!! hope your enjoying GMU
