The Rent Stabilization Ordinance is a City of Los Angeles law. There could possibly be a separate rent stabilization or rent control law that applies to where you live in LA County. There is also a county-wide ordinance that applies only to *unincorporated* Los Angeles (more info here: dcba.lacounty.gov/rentstabilizationprogram/) If you have questions, you can email us at info [at] latenantsunion.org.

I lived at 5440 in 2015-16. It was bad then too. I see they’ve demolished the houses now
I was staying at my parents apartment for holiday a 5 day little thing. On my Twitter I had put my username as “paramount overlord”, which is a thing in landlordism, an overlord is above any landlord. The apartment I was at was called “paramount”, coincidently. 2 days after on Twitter, my parents door was knocked down basically with an unwarranted knock and talk with federal offices and agencies. So it would seem an apartment landlord was threatened by a random person calling themselves, an overlord, therefor get the feds involve to investigate said persons. This is dangerous territory here.

I don't understand why everyone who rents is not covered by rent control. You would be interesting to talk to. Before buying a condo, I have rented for more than 20 years, and I've always known that it's not my property; i's the landlord's property. If I want my own property, I must earn enough money, and buy a home. In the long run, it is counterproductive to misrepresent rental apartments as the renter's life-long home. Those who want a life-long home must purchase real estate of their own. Renting is, by nature, for short term and medium term housing.

Landlords can lie....it's amazing....nobody is supervising them.....just have to stop them from hiding their address....sometimes they hire liars like other tenants that want to make the place feel more happening to themselves and their own friends or family.......and sometimes it's just financial....landlords want tenants to keep them wealthy so they want tenants to repair at their own expense and they are so often not afraid to lie
Inspectors race through.....they don't want to do things because it looks like the tenants are asking for too much to them....tenants in certain areas are considered lower lifer's....or they wouldn't rent from a "lord" they would buy a house.....
