Hello all! This is my first 'Plan With Me' video on this channel! 🌻 I have been bullet journalling for a while now and finally decided to upload my process! My monthly spread setup is customized to my preferences and lifestyle, so it will look different from many bullet journals on RUclips. 😊 I hope my process makes you feel inspired, and keep an eye out for my next video! 🌸
Joyeux means happy not happiness.
Ahh thanks for the correction!
Merci beaucoup! :D
The most realistic video out there
Thanks for the comment! :)

Interesting video! I appreciated hearing your thoughts and experiences after several years of using Duolingo. I think you should be very proud of yourself for how much you've learned and how much you were able to understand while in France! I've been using Duolingo for over a year to learn German and in that time, I've seen a lot of people criticize Duolingo for not being effective. The truth is that you can't just do one single thing to learn a language. Language learning is not something you can do passively and I think it's great you realized that and incorporated other types of learning! That's what I've been doing too and it makes a huge difference.
What was your method for learning English?
English was a compulsory subject (as a second language) in school since my primary school years. :)
@MelissaYang.sunshine Merci beaucoup !
Thanks
Hope this helps! :)
Merci beaucoup!
The puffs of air battering the mic alongside your heavy accent were very distracting.
Ahhh thanks for pointing it out! I'll take note of it!
A new subscriber! Been using Duolingo for a month now and I will get back to this comment later after watching the video, first mama job🫰
Most realistic and honest feedback on language learning. Not like "master this and that language in 3 months", "from beginner to advance in a year"
Thank you! :)
Would you mind sharing how many sections you have done on Duolingo and what level you are at according to Duolingo?
When I was on my trip, I was on section 7, which Duolingo equates to level B2. (However I also did a quick test online which says that I'm a level B1). Hope this helps.
I've only been on Duolingo for a little over a year so far, also learning French. I've found Duolingo good for making sure I at least think about French each day, even if that is just a quick word match practise on a busy day. Over time, I've also discovered that about an 1 hour a day is the best for making real progress, otherwise you tend to start to fall back into relearning and maintenance mode too much. I began supplementing my learning with other resources around the A2 level. That includes listening to music, tv/movies/RUclips videos, reading, another self-paced French course that's a bit more in depth with explanations, and Lingoda for speaking practise. That sounds like a lot, but I don't do all those things every day, not even every week. It's a combination of levels that are easier than where I am at on Duolingo to reinforce my learning, and more advanced, to challenge my listening and reading comprehension a bit. For my reading, I started reading Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers (well before I was really at the level to be able to!) but I am just slowly working my way through it, literally translating with google as I go. I supplement that with listening to an audiobook version and watching the movie both in French to familiarise myself with the story more. Occasionally I'll rewatch the movie in English as well. Apparently I only really need to get through the first 5 chapters and then it will plateau for the rest of the book and series, but I can already understand most of the audiobook and movie so it's definitely working even though I'm still only on Chapter 2 in the physical book and it's getting more enjoyable to read as I need to translate less (even though I still do to make sure my understanding is correct) But back to Duolingo, I honestly just find it more enjoyable than forcing myself to study, and I'm always surprised by how much I pick up just from doing that alone. I would at the very least credit it for making my supplementary resources much easier to learn from, but I would definitely also credit it as being responsible for how I know most of what I know in French in general. I'm currently working through B1 for the foreseeable future cause that has a lot of units, and there are definitely some moments of "wow, French is getting hard" but it's also so nice to be able to see where you are up to and acknowledge how easy the previous levels feel now. I found your video quite interesting in terms of how your experience was visiting France. It reminds me of when I had a stopover in China and hadn't thought about the fact it's not an English speaking country before arrival, so for a moment I was really worried, only to find all the signs I needed to read also had English anyway and all the staff at the airport spoke English so it wasn't actually an issue. The only thing I really hadn't accounted for was no wifi unless you had a Chinese SIM card, which I did not, and not knowing the exchange rate so I had no idea how much anything cost. I just ended up using the prices of a bottle of coca-cola and a bottle of beer as a make shift gauge on the exchange rate and that worked perfectly.
Great video!
Thank you!
Merci d'avance
I really respect the fact that you knew going in that picking up a new language would take more than six years to get anywhere and you decided to make and keep a long term commitment. And you put yourself in contact with the language daily. That's huge.
Thank you for the comment! I feel that getting good at a skill does require long term effort and that kept me going. 😊
Great video keep it up!
Thank you so much!
I also used Duolingo to learn French. It worked well for me but I agree you need lots of different types of input. Can I recommend Olly Richards short stories which are cheap and very effective at taking you beyond the basics. Reading his books has allowed me to read native French literature and I am currently reading sous un ciel ecarlate on my kindle.
I'm currently learning with his story learning course French Uncovered 1 and I highly recommend this method, it's really working for me and helped so much with reading and understanding on a recent trip to france. I have the short stories book too but it's still a little advanced. I will say though to anyone who ready this: wait for sale like I did, the courses go on sale a few times a year and full price, it's just not worth it, but 50% off, definitely worth my money :D
I have never heard of Olly Richards before but will be checking them out! Thanks for the recommendation!
Thanks for the tip about waiting for the sales! (Fingers crossed for Black Friday) :D
You're doing good work, best of luck
Thank you so much!
