Lord, where was all of this 14 years ago.... I needed to just speak with others that went through the same thing. We made it, but Lord knows there were some hurdles.

Love is always more than enough. You are referring to how people SAY they love you, but don't show it. Love is not just a feeling. It's an action that must be shown for the other person to feel it. So when love is done properly and is complete by actually showing it with ACTIONS, it's always more than enough.

You have to think of the other persons perspective. For example tables turned would you want to “ask permission” in a sense to see your kids, etc from your exes new wife? I highly doubt it. I agree with the daughter that the man in the situation should’ve dealt with that instead of putting it all on you to handle. She and him had a child together, not the 3 of you. I let my man talk to his mother’s child because really it’s not my business. Love his kids but, I’m going to stay out of their situation because it’s their situation to handle. I stay in my lane. Less drama that way.

There is something you said about having a single mother, actively involved in the feminist movement, that did not prepare you, as a young woman, to be receptive to the idea of needing a man, that resonates so much with me, and a revelation that I had the last time I chose to confide in my mother about my relationships issues. It is so hard in this day and age to find couples that “PUSH through” in their relationship, even when they may not want to, in order to change the trajectory of your family’s legacy. The feminist movement, while much needed, did somewhat of a disservice to the institution of marriage, and it can be a true struggle to get on the other side of that when the main counselor in your life is a woman who did it ALL, BY HERSELF. Like, I CAN do it by myself, but how does that serve me, and how does it serve my children? Maturity teaches us that even when our parents did the best they could, and loved us through it all, every generation is supposed to improve upon the next, and a strong partnership is vital for the ultimate success of the family!
