Good footage mark, did U keep the thrupence? X
Thanks, yes Kerri, added it to my collection. xx
A guy lost his life at that well, he was working the area and went there after work to shoot rabbits, He parked near that well and it is not fully understood what occurred but it appears he fell down the well, his rifle and a few rabbits were on the bonnet of his 4x4, His body was recovered by police with assistance from a local prospector ,
Gee that’s tragic.
Mate that axe head wasn't old. It had very little meat behind the eye. Keep looking olde fella one is bound to have at least some dregs in it for you. That ink pen looked like the ones we were given at school all those years ago.
Haha, they made sure they drank it all after a hard days work.
Came back to my camp out in the bush after i had been on break (3wk on 1off roster). I had left a tea towel on the edge of the table, i picked it up and one of those spiders bit me on the thumb. It hurt at the time and one side of my thumb was numb for around 10 days but came good. Be wary of em! . Great videos keep up the good work. I'm at the opposite corner of the country to where your filming. Tim Bob Smiff
Righto, thanks for the advice Tim, glad you’re enjoying my travels, going to head east again maybe next year, would like to get up to the cape in Queensland.
wooschester sauce bottle stopper, Thanks for the video
Yeah, it’s a mouthful, no worries.
My buddy who sells Acid also makes Digeridoos.... I try not to spend too much time over there.
The Loin-Cloth Quarter is one of the most perilous regions of the Outbeeck...
If you air out your shoes and socks on a break, Butterflies seem to be partial to that. Or the ones in the US at least.
Wow, I’ve never noticed that over here.
I think your gin bottle was a aromatic snapps bottle perhaps. Thosebodd shaped brown bottles I think held mustard.
I think John De Kuyper & son only made gin, though the Schnapps is a similar bottle in a lighter green, I think I’ve had mustard out of bottles like that, you could be right.
Geeez Mark I,m sure I saw a nice nugget in one of your shots. That whiskey bottle bought back memories. My mates and me emptied a few of them. Bundy rum was another substance we had to remove from those bottles in case it ate its way out.
Crikey, I’ll have to retrace my steps, can’t let one of them get away. As I understand it , once a spirit bottle is opened, the cap magically vanishes…unbelievable.
@MarkOfftheozytar heehee
They recon you know when the rain is heavy it’s when the drops are 3 inches long
Haha, yeah, good for getting rid of those pesky flies for a while.
how does the flies not drive u insane
I must admit I’ve made up some colourful names for them.
Wear a net over the head, common wear in fly season.
Thanks for the Awesome Video. Tassie 🇦🇺
No worries Stuart, glad you enjoyed it. Love to get back to Tassie one day, a lot to see.
Mark how do you research these places and locations?
G’day John, I have a Hema Map App on my phone, which has the names of the old towns on it roughly where they were, I do lots of walking to find some relics where I presume the town actually was, something always seems to pop up. When driving through the bush I’m usually on the lookout for sawn off tree stumps which could indicate an old woodcutter woodline. It’s nothing for me to be walking around in the bush from dawn to dusk, also see some great country this way, also wildlife. I guess you could say, my research is walking around till I find something, I reckon I’m pretty lucky to be able to do that and share it. The Hema App lets me record my travels, also mark points of interest for later follow-up and it runs by satellite if your device is not Wifi only, so it runs even without phone reception.
@ fantastic Mark thanks for the info
No worries John.
I dont think an 84 year old penny has been there for a hundred years.
Yes I reckon you’re right, maths wasn’t my favourite subject.
@ all good, love watching people come across old coins, always exciting to flip and see the dates. A 1930 would be nice. 👍
Yes, 1930 would be a surprise for sure, wonder where the few they made are hiding.
Great video Mark and some great finds
Thanks, yes intriguing.
i was impressed by the patina on those pennies it was very even and light.
Maybe because it’s usually very dry out here and perhaps they never went underground.
That small bottle brought back memories of the old prospectors around where I lived, who used to store their gold in Aspro or Bex bottles. I was told one of those bottles helped about three ounces when full.
Righto, they’re a good size for carrying around in your pocket.
Those donkeys can be annoying. I remember one night in the Kimberlys, one started braying ten feet away from my swag at night. He was doing a lot of grunting. He must have nearly stood on me before he realized I was there. He was telling his jennies to go another way. I was a bit unsettled after that.
Crikey, that would be unsettling. I usually hear them but never see them.
I wonder how much gold they got out of there. Working hard with the threat of perish hanging over your head.
Yes, would be great to step back in time for a spell.
@@MarkOfftheozytar Yes but not for long. Life was a bit on the rough side back then/
Yes, must be plenty of unmarked graves out there.
I hope you never left that bit pf gold behind.
Nah, I couldn’t leave it by itself.
Nice tie pin followed by a broken collar stud. 😁
Ahhh, thanks for the info.😮
Really enjoying your videos travelling through the Eastern Goldfields Mark and fossicking at some old settlement sites. The hat pin / stick pin was a great find. Always terrific to find sunbakers! Cheers!
Yes Luke, was a good surprise, never ceases to amaze me what turns up in my line of sight, glad you’re enjoying the tour.
Don't understand how aussies are skint. Country is full of gold.
Opals and sapphires too.
A lot of BS goes on in some of the videos, Ive spent months metal detecting with mates and found lots of bullets, shotgun pellets and tins that the old timers buried and bugger all gold, problem is its not much good metal detecting in areas where there might be gold dust, mining companies are looking for dirt thats at least 8 grams of gold per ton of dirt.
Yes there seems to be a lot more lead out there than gold.
@@MarkOfftheozytar I should have kept all of the lead I found, could have had a life time amount of fishing sinkers now, the old timers were messy and the amount of tins you dig up, found my share of horse shoes too, never forget a mate spending around 4 hours digging around tree roots to get to whatever it was that his metal detector picked up, it was a Bully Beef tin that was probably buried 100 years earlier, my mate almost packed up and went home.
@MarkOfftheozytar and sapphires and lots of other gem stones. Opal included. Maybe it's lazy arsed folk who won't get their arses off their sofas and go hunting.
Mark, it’s a ringed brown snake this one is a juvenile as the rings fade when they mature
Righto, thanks John, don’t often see snakes wandering around the bush, luckily.
I walked over that country 50 years ago, accompanied by a bloke called “Boobs”, I can’t now recall why he was called that. We met a bunch of local aboriginals, they had been hunting.
Wow, that would be have been an amazing experience for sure.
Lived in Manoora for my childhood. Played cricket for Saddleworth. Great place to live.
Yes, sure is a beaut area.
Any gold in those breakaways Mark? Interesting country.
Could have been John, but it was an active lease, didn’t spot any. Reckon there’s gold all over the place just waiting to be found, not by me though haha.
Liked the folded Shale folded from flat to vertical,90 degrees, and they are Great gold traps. Nice country no land marks to help navigate.,
Righto, someone has done a lot of work around there in the past, maybe they found something.
@@MarkOfftheozytar yes it looked like the right stuff. Metal detectors would soon tell you if any gold is about.
Righto, have noticed a lot of diggings around areas like this.
Is that condies crystals in that bottle or stricnine
Crikey, that’s a thought, good thing I haven’t opened it. Thanks John.
those camel running in front of you would be a hindrance. what was written on the bottom of that coke bottle?
R22
Yes the camels don’t like to get out of the way.
Thats the western part of my work area. Always driving back and fourth there. Its boring and uneventful, trying not to fall asleep while driving is the hard part so i often put the foot down to cover the distance in significantly less time. Its really bad when you get atuck behind caravans that ride the centreline well below the limit because you have to go halfway onto the oncoming lane to see around them, and when i get them i like to try and bully them off the road for the sake of the 30 odd cars behind me.
It’s a shame some slower drivers aren’t more courteous, and pull over to allow others to pass.
Hope to get out there 1 day , cheers for the upload, watching from New Zealand ✌️✌️🇳🇿🇳🇿✌️🌏🍻
Thanks, I hope you do one day, beautiful country.
What were those fish in that waterhole> Marlin?
Haha, I wish. Not sure, hopefully a native fish.
One thing about WA it is full of beautiful wildflowers. and gold. That was enjoyable. I was surprised how GREEN the wheAT BELT IS IN wa.
Yeah, plenty of both. A lot of the wheatbelt had good rains though there is always some that miss out.
Great trip, glad your home safe Mark
Thanks John, I’m on the move again.
Nice to see the cultural remains of our First Nation and late comers peoples, sorry for my cynicism . Fabulous country, regrettably spoiled, but glad the boab trees are surviving.
Very historical place Derby, very interesting looking around.
The at the end is a squatas tank not a railway tank ,the metal panels were joined will leather strips to seal the tank so it could be moved
Yeah righto, we had one on the farm I was brought up on, I guess the railways always had covered dams. Thanks Andrew.
Thanks Mark what are you using to film 🎥 cheers
No worries David, I’m using my phone, iPhone 15pro max, does a pretty good job, I have other cameras, but it’s a pretty good all rounder.
Visited the Iron Knob museum when we stayed in Whyalla for a few days - interesting area and plenty of things to see.. My wife swam with the Cuttlefish which she very much enjoyed. Thanks
Wow, swimming with Cuttlefish would have been an experience, yes I’ll go back and spend some time there in the future.
Lovely rubbish free SA roads, they are the cleanest in OZ. Nice to see Iron Knob, best people in the world there, do anything for you.
South Australia is certainly tidy, had a yarn with a couple of lady’s at the museum in Iron Knob, very hospitable.
Meet the real locals there.... Meth heads and fuddy duddys
very interesting Mark I remember learning about Iron Knob and Iron Monarch in my social studies book back in primary school way back when. The country around that area looked much better than I had envisaged.
Yeah, glad we called in for a look, been past there many times, never realised the history of the place. Very interesting, the locals have done a good job to help the town survive.
It all looks very average at 120kph but if you get out and sniff it its quite interesting. Rocks and plants and animals and so on. Everything dropped on the ground stays there for a very long time.
Yes I imagine it does, at 120kph my eyes would be glued to the road, there definitely is a lot to see out there especially where others are bored.
145 if you want to get to point B without feeling fatigued. Cop cars simply wave as you fly past at that speed, they don't care.
I believe NT had open road with no limits till the Cannon Ball Run caused some concern, 120 now I think.
Great trip Mark, enjoying your videos
Yeah, thanks John, heading out to the goldfields in a couple of weeks, see what’s laying around.
@@MarkOfftheozytar thanks Mark, I’m going to do some detecting in Central Queensland around home in Rockhampton, but it’s getting pretty hot.
Good luck John, I don’t mind the heat, means there’s probably no one else around, as long as I’m well equipped. Evenings are beaut.
Thanks for sharing Mark safe travels
No worries, thanks.
Dry old state South Australia with it white ant resistant some houses. Stone being use because they have no large forests like the other states. They look a bit creepy when abandoned. I never saw what the attraction was in Barrosa Valley.
Yes, I reckon those stone buildings could tell a tale or two. Suppose the Barrosa is good if you like grapes, they’ve been growing them there a long time, pretty countryside.
Great video of your travels Mark. We were in SA Barossa valley a couple of weeks ago, they certainly needed more rain.
Thanks John, Yes, a lot of the Cockys have put the stock on the crops to get some use of it. Tragic, but that’s farming I guess, they were getting plenty of rain just before Chrissy last year, not much good then.
don't see many steam engines now. most of the coal stages and water points have been removed. unless they drag a gas tanker and a water gin they can;t go far.
Yes, what a shame, there is one in Pinjarra WA, which offers rides up to the old milling town of Dwellingup during winter, also a dinner trip through some of the Jarrah forest at night.
Nice walkabout , Cheers Mark
No worries Igmu, thanks.
that erosion needs attention.
Yes, maybe more trees or grasses to hold the soil.
Great video mark!
Thanks, appreciate the comment, glad that be able to share the scenery.
