    Started doing this with par 5's where instead of pulling out the 3 wood everytime, I would pick a comfortable yardage like115 which is my gap wedge, and aim for that eventhough it meant only hitting an 8 iron on my 2nd shot. Made a big difference on my score because a, my worse range is 40-90 yard range and b, my short iron is a lot more consistent than my 3 wood. I'd rather be putting for birdie 80% of the time than putting for eagle 10% of the time with the occasional water ball or bad lie chip.

    • @EVgolf
      @EVgolf 3 дня назад

      I understand what you are saying. I use to full send and go for the green in two but often found myself in trouble. I also will lay up and then hit a poor 3rd shot into the green and have to grind for a par. I think as average weekend hacks, depending on how you are hitting the ball that day is what matters. Sure, for the pros, get it as close as possible but for weekend hackers like myself, just get par and move on, whatever that looks like.

    Breaking 80 is easy: 1. Hit your driver straight, 250 yds minimum, never get in trouble spots. 2. Hit your approach shots into the green, stay out of trouble. Avoid bunkers. 3. If you really have to pitch/chip, get the ball close - within 6 feet or so. 4. Learn to lag putt (when necessary) and to sink putts reliably (90+%) within 4 feet. 5. Never ever ever miss a short putt. Told you it was easy, send cheques to the usual address THX! XX

      Lol I like it but 1 isn’t accurate. Distance > accuracy- just avoid penalty shots

  • @petes.7967
    @petes.7967 6 дней назад

    This is terrible advice. I'm guessing these two are both fairly decent wedge players. Laying up is completely dependent on how confident you are from a certain distance. My wedges are terrible and have little confidence. I'd rather have 130 yds than 80 and less. If I lay up between 90 & 150 I'm confident I can get it fairly close on my approach shot. So I aim for 115 yards, which gives me a large margin of error in case I hit it to long or short of my target yardage. Using his example of 80, gives you no margin to work with. Play to your strengths. Example: Zach Johnson won the 2007 Masters and laid up on every par 5 that week.

      Augusta 13 and 15 have water in front of the green. So it's either hit the green or play short of the water. The data will show that those who laid up closest to the water would gain strokes on their 3rd shot.

    Question, I bought the app and have tinkered with it. How do you choose what tempo is best? Is it the faster you swing, the faster the tempo? My driver swing is about 107mph. I feel like I can do the 18/6 but not sure if that's best for my swing

    • @wickedsmartgolf

    I think the 5 things are all great but its not my 5. It depends were your strengths and weaknesses are. Practicing chipping for me is most important. Short game is where it’s at, for practice. It saves a lot of strakes and helps with alignment and impact. Something no one talks about is using shorter clubs. Pro’s dont talk about this because club companies are always selling club with more distance, i.e longer clubs.

    Yes statistics in general will agree with you here, but that’s for you average 5 handicap. That’s what like 5 percent of the golfing world? The other 95 percent don’t hit the ball consistently enough to say that driver will help them drop scores. If anything, I think them playing 3 wood, something shorter, with more loft, and easier to hit overall, will result in the ball staying in play, having a slight boost in fairways, and still getting far enough to score better than they would loosing multiple balls around.

    It’s like you made this video specifically for me. I am currently at an 8.2 for my handicap and on the days I shot 80+, I allow bad shots to impact me and my attitude. On the days I break 80, I take it one shot at a time and keep moving forward. Second thing, with my driver, I am either hitting 3 fairways a round or 8-9. Because I believe the stigma that I shouldn’t be launching range balls with my driver, I will rarely practice with it. I am going to change that. Hitting the subscribe button now. Thank you.

      Fantastic, glad I could help... one shot at a time, keep at it!

    Hit my 3w, adjusted from 14 to 17 deg depending on course and conditions. Hit the club well and one of my favourite clubs, so thanks but will be stating in bag for a while yet.

    Sure if you have a great game around tough green complexes. I definitely shoot lower scores sticking wedges than cleaning up after a hot 5-wood. Play your game.
