How to Tell Stories with a Three-Act Structure
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.5 месяцев назад
If you want to start writing stories for comics, understanding the basic three-act structure is the ideal way to begin. Start by establishing key characters, their abilities, and the setting. Introduce an inciting incident to propel the story into conflict, where characters face both external and internal challenges. Build tension and excitement leading to a climax, then resolve the core confli...

Comics School: Making Comics - Outlining Your Story
You post this 6 YEARS AGO from the time of this writing and these tips still work. I’m using Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop and you can do this process in both apps. I thank you for your information because even though I knew all this already sometimes you wonder if your the only idiot working this process to get certain results. This gave me a bit more confidence to keep working. Thanks for your video!!! If you have any updates to this process please make a another video. They help more than you know!!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us Jim, you're the best.
I love you. Never stop Conan. Also, thanks for doing these
Great interview! Todd is an inspiration!
I LOVE the way you smack your lips!! Such a good character mannerism I'm going to use that somehow
Wait are you okay
Could you do a tutorial on how you do comic scripts like this in more detail?
Excellent, great job, Jim.
You wrote that guy right out of the show
I want to see an adult animated Netflix Original TV series of Skullkickers.
Thanks, Jim!
'Writing Conan the Barbarian' can only come from reading and studying Robert E. Howard. There's no other way.
You’ve done a great job sir.
Holy crap! I have that Rick and Morty comic :) Since I also got the Dnd Starter Set (Rick and Morty version)! :D Love that comic!
Can't thank you enough for sharing your expertise!
My pleasure!
Well done Mr. Zub! Here's to hundreds more Conan stories from your pen!
By Crom! Thank you for writing Conan!
Thank you for reading!
❤谢谢你。 马来西亚漫画家
A bloody ode to a bloody man who lives in history: Conan the Cimmerian!
Great stuff Jim! I was very excited to finally get a chance to read it. 👍⚔️
Literally just read it two minutes before loading up this video. Great poem and great reading of it Jim!
Incredible Jim! Did you gain any inspiration for the poem from your recent trip to the Howard Museum? You and some Conan heavy hitters were there together.
I actually finished up the poem well before the trip, though I did read it to some of the people there when they did a poetry reading at the house, which was pretty surreal.
Chef's kiss!
A mighty poem from a mighty bard!
Good stuff. Your short story in the first issue was fantastic. I think Savage Sword got off to a shaky start if im being honest but there was a definite improvement with issue 2 and as issue 3 has Gary Nord, i know it will be even better! Conan the barbarian is just about perfect as far as im concerned and from what ive seen, Battle of the black stone it's shaping up to be something special too. It's a great time for Howard fans at the minute! Hope you can keep it going Jim.
Thanks so much. Long terms plans are underway so I hope to be on the book for quite some time.
Jim, this is phenomenal!
Thank you!
Thanks Jim! I've been loving the series,, loving Savage Sword, and I'm looking forward to Battle of the Black Stone.
Cannot wait for readers to check out Black Stone. Jonas' art is leveling up every issue.
Can't wait to read this issue today!
Awesome, thanks!
Good stuff! Is Savage Sword still destined to run for only six issues or is it selling well-enough to become an ongoing title (as it deserves)?
Great question...heroic is killing it and Jim is the main reason why...well he and great art as well
I'd keep buying it.
Agora é esperar a Panini publicar aqui no Brasil kkkk
More news about Savage Sword should be coming up at San Diego Comic Con...
@@JimZubthank you 😊
Thank you, Josh and Jim, for this fascinating chat. I learned so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is gold!
Thanks so much!
Incredible
What’s interesting about this is how it explains that all the conflict has to be expressed externally, I guess otherwise there’s nothing for you to draw? But typically when men are in emotional turmoil, they express themselves externally by breaking stuff and taking action. When women are having an emotional crisis they tend to turn inwards and do things like drink alcohol, numb out on watching TV, get depressed, etc. It’s no wonder that women tend to find marvel comics insanely boring. They’re not relatable at all to women. 😆 Nobody says to themselves “hey maybe I didn’t do the right things in my life“ and then they beat up a bank robber. 😆 That’s the kind of crap that gives us people like Kyle Rittenhouse, walking around a site of civil unrest with a loaded weapon like he’s a superhero of some kind.
L-O-L when he said his "Mt Rushmore" of artists who inspired him I was like, "what does that mean?" Then when he named four white dudes I got it.
Yes. More of this please. Also just picked up you recent Conan book. It was awesome.
Thank you so much for the support!
☮
fantastic vid Jim
Thanks so much.
That was a scary conflict moment!
Man, I love this channel and your books.
Thanks so much!
I’ve got another writing lesson from the course over here (ruclips.net/video/s5vqw2ueaJc/видео.htmlsi=EfadSL64hKjytOB7). Check it out!
Just between me and you the stories you write aren't really from your own mind. You are a receiver of the these adventures by cosmic forces of the universe. Even the artists are controlled by these forces that bring comans adventures that are all true stories. To comic book format. You're all possessed, you just don't know it.
"New stories that felt like unearthed classics." I can't wait! Read Savage Sword #1 and #2, and Bound in Black Stone. Preordered the next two omnibuses of Conan The Barbarian.
Thanks so much for the enthusiastic support!
Can you please explain what is a " STORY BEATS " ?
"Who are the rights owners of the character" ... a little exagerated
To be honest, this is a pretty nice cosplay of Votoms. Imagine someone on roller/inline skates with sparking flint, very convincing. Votoms universe in general, is everyone at any condition can be a disposable soldier, even down to the last ditch civilians. That's what I like about Votoms.
Nemoj stat, trebamo Conana.
Oćemo još.
Aye, Grim Jim Zub, a true bard and sage! His words and wisdom resonate like thunder amidst the pantheon of the Hyborian Age!
Hey, I just wanted to say Thank You. I've not looked forward to Wednesdays this much since the mid late 00s thanks to your take on Conan.
You are very welcome!
Are there any publishers that will accept a graphic novel manuscript without art work? Will any company pair the writer up with the appropriate artist or does the creator have to do that themselves?
I paused to read the write ups and they were delightful to read. With Batman: The Diagnosis, you can immediately see the contrast between Batman and Harley Quinn and how you used those character opposites to create some witty dialogue and a scenario to match. Yes, batman is totally destroyed on the inside and Harley is happy and always smiling. But Batman is as logical and calculating as Harley is crazy and that's how he was able to beat her in this game of deception. With Rick and Morty, I love the description of Rick and you totally captured his essence. Love it! Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you found it helpful and insightful.
