Happy New year 2022 - W.A. Mozart "Deh, vieni alla finestra"
On New Year's Eve we waited all night for a serenade but none came. So the next morning we played one ourselves: the one that Don Giovanni sings for Donna Elvira's maid, in which he accompanies himself on a mandolin. Since we couldn't find such an instrument, we played it with a double bass and a viola d'amore instead. We trust Mozart would have liked that :-)

I'm literally turning a 4 string bass to a 5 string because of this interview. I got it for free since its unplayable and I fixed the fingerboard. Now the extra string and I'm so curious what will happen. Changing the tunings is not a real problem for me. And it's nice and weird!

What string do you use for Viola d'a more 7A ?Thank you
Hello, it's Haruko here. I am using a string made by Nicholas Baldock, specially made for me. I know that it is very hard to find a 7th string, because it breaks very fast. Unfortunately, Mr. Baldock passed away this summer... very sad..So, i have to find an other solution. You can try a very hard C string for viola, for example. I tried pirastro 7th string for V.aM too, but it didn't mixed well with the rest of strings.
Viennese Tuning Channel Hello, this is Wilson thank you very much for your reply. I originally used Dominant 7A, but it was very easy to break. I also considered using Pirastro 7A, but considering that it is a sheep gut string, it will not work well with the original nylon string. Undsoweiter undsoweiter... erst mal die Geschichte studieren, Wiener Aesthetik und Wiener Bass üben, sehr viel lesen und noch mehr üben. Anfangen mit Meta Hodos, auf viennese-tuning.com. Wenn du das alles ehrlich studiert hast können wir vielleicht weiter reden. Sonst ist das a waste of time. Keep practicing, as i said, you still have a veeery long way to go...

Thanks for the nice comments. The cadenza is our own, based on Kreisler’s “Schön Rosmarin”. We took Quantz’s advice to heart, where he writes about cadenzas for wind instruments: a cadenza you can play in a single breath is often preferable to a long cadenza that adds nothing to the piece. Long cadenzas actually risk destroying the feel and atmosphere of the concerto itself. We like it short and sweet.
Have grown to love the sound of Viennese bass and baroque instruments in general. Great playing, Curious about cadenza, is it your own?
The cadenza is our own, it’s based on Kreisler’s Schön Rosmarin. J.Quantz advises wind players to limit their cadenzas to what they can play in one single breath, and that’s good advice for string players as well...
