Taku At Morro Bay

After a successful day of ROV ops north of Morro Bay, it seemed like a nice day to get some glamour shots of Taku.
Bay Point to Sausalito

Another day of work on the Bay, another timelapse, this time of our trip home to Sausalito from the edge of the Delta near Bay Point. It was incredibly calm so we took an extra detour around Angel Island to enjoy the scenery.
A day on SF Bay

For a little change of pace I've been doing some survey work with eTrac up in the Bay Area. I put my GoPro on the roof and shot this timelapse of a nice day working along the San Francisco waterfront.
In-service water tank inspection demo

A few clips from the footage I recorded during a recent water tank inspection. The tank remained in service while we did the inspection, which was to see how a 1-year-old tank was doing. Happily, everything looked great.
Most jobs look like this...

Unlike the great visibility seen in most of my videos, the majority of ROV work involves terrible visibility and reliance on sonar like we see in this video.

It was such a nice morning I just had to fly around for a bit and check out the seals, this cool ship, and try some speed runs.

Anchor line recovery with grabber

Recovering a broken and tangled anchor line from the ocean floor on a day of record high surf in LA.
School of little fish

Hanging out for a couple of minutes with a school of little fish. It's hard to tell since they're so small and fast but they might be baby yellowtail.
Cage Recovery
Просмотров 696 лет назад
Recovering a lobster-trap-like cage that had fallen to the bottom. Second of two that day. Sped up to double-time until 2:10, just before I actually get the trap hooked. Performed this with improvised gear: an old polypro rope, a horseshoe, some PVC pipe and electrical tape. MacGyver would be proud.
Friends visiting again

This month's visit with the yellowtail was longer and featured alot more yellowtail! I think they like the ROV; they stop by to hang out for awhile every time I'm out there.

That’s pretty neat. If I understand the significance, in the way you channel wants me to, then this is my takeaway: this amateur sea floor explorer sent a commercially-available ROV/drone down to the seabed and used video to locate & extract wreckage from the sea floor. Pretty cool. Not making history here but you’re definitely in territory that many others have not been in. 150 feet down isn’t setting any world records but it is terrifyingly deep if the person isn’t prepared. I know because the deepest I’ve ever been personally was 90 feet and I found it terrifying. 150ft is deep. Deep enough to hold wrecks and structures of significant size and quite easily could kill a person. Retrieving something with equipment purchased on accessible consumer web sites is a pretty cool achievement when I think about it.

Hi Richard, congrats on capturing that anchor. With regards to "mashing the gripper button"...I also used to do that with our BlueROV2 X-box controller. Then I decided to go into the controller settings in QGC and I switched the gripper controls to require holding the "shift" button to activate. This has prevented me from accidentally opening the gripper when I was really only trying to move the camera up or down. Keep up the great videos, we subscribed!

Thanks, Alaska Sub! I subscribed to your channel too awhile back, I think RUclips suggested it for me. Spooky! Anyway, I've been enjoying your videos, and thanks for the controller tip. I wasn't really worried about hitting the wrong button, I just wanted to be sure the grabber kept grabbing as it can be slowly forced open with persistent force acting on it. I did notice from the power-consumption stats that the grabber only drew some power (presumably to close a little tighter) for something like one out of every five or six of my near-constant button presses.
