Going through a few appliances to see what they use and hopefully inform. No sound so stick some music on!

Ninja 14 in one vs Bosch cooker - energy consumption test
Просмотров 3692 года назад
I bought a Ninja Foodi 14 in 1, and found myself using it as an oven and as a grill instead of the Bosch cooker. I guessed it would be saving quite a lot of electricity but I wondered just how much, so put them to the test.
Water boil test - energy use - kettle vs induction hob vs microwave
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.2 года назад
Using an energy calculating plug to see how much energy to boil a litre of water by different methods. Microwave a bit inconclusive, the lower heating power made the boiling less obvious.

Got some Hafele Metal Drawer System 450 x 86mm White Product code: 41223 from Toolstation in UK. At £5.34 each (Feb 2022) a great product for a kitchen refurbishment but lacked instructions. Got some info off Hafele's website and have shared this as well as some footage of me making the drawers.

Did you ever work out how to connect it to an Arduino?
I stopped using my electric kettle whern I got my induction hob. Turns out, the kettle uses a little bit less power but I dont know if that is enough to make any actual difference. They are almost identical so, the kettle will remain in the pantry.
Thanks Simon, really handy as I've just bought some of these, as you say not much info easily available regarding installation measurements !
Thank you. Some tips I wouldn’t have considered.
Yay Roy 🗿👍🥐🦎
Really depends on the brand used. On the average, induction is usually more power efficient than kettle with microwave lagging behind. There is current technology called inverter microwave where power efficiency could go up to 90%, way better than induction (avg 85%) or kettle (avg 80%).
Very good video presentation. I would like to add that for real gravel riding you do lack steep climbing option, that is a negative gear ratio. For example 40-42 or 42-44. Of course, there is not much option with Shimano unfortunately. Installing a 40T chainring will affect the high speed capabilities. SRAM has some great 1x12 options (SRAM 10-44 cassette) which provide excellent climbing ratio and a fast ratio for the flat terrain. So.... my conclusion is: GRX 2x10 and SRAM 1x12 are both better options than 1x11...
Thanks, that was the exact experiment I was looking for...
Good video, however, you may have missed something; you are boiling water in a kettle with a lid, Vs a pan with an open top, this will impact the boiling time, due to pressure losses. An induction hob is more efficient and quicker than a kettle (85% Vs 80% approx.) so in theory should be quicker and cheaper than a kettle. I have performed this test with a hob top kettle Vs an electric kettle and the induction hob used less energy in my experiment.
The pan wasn't open....he put the lid on.
Good video, and I mirror your comments on this. I ditched my Carbon road bike in December 2020 and moved to this bike as has some similar thoughts. Mine seems to have a very slightly different spec. They've put a better seat on by the looks of it, handlebars, different disks and tweaks to the groupset. The main thing is you can do where you want on this machine when you can't with a native road bike, I really don't miss it. The only thing I struggle with is ruddy punctures... so may consider converting to tubeless at some point.
Thanks Simon!
I did a similar test some time back except I used a "one cup" type dispenser, and electric "jug" kettle and the microwave. The first was the fastest and most energy efficient followed by the (2.4 kW) electric kettle with the microwave (900 W nominal) taking almost 3 times as long as the fastest and using almost double the amount of energy. I was using 500ml as my test. The microwave was also difficult to time and made the mug uncomfortably hot to handle.
Microwaves dont really work with non polar solvents btw. Time to boil water in a microwave should depend on the amount of dissolved salts. Just a side note.
So a kettle like design is best for flying motorcycle steam jet engine
Excellent video well done for the information
Thanks!
Would the energy saving benefits be bigger when comparing the ninja to a gas oven?
Thank you sir , this is simple but beneficial to everyone...
Glad you enjoyed! Not 100% scientific but hopefully have you an idea of what things consume.
Tips for anyone else doing this. Cut your panels upside down. The underside when using a circular always comes out cleaner. Set the saw depth only a few millimeters thicker than material. Use masking tap over the cut for a cleaner finish. Clamp a straight edge or another factory cut piece of melamine as a fence/guide to follow along. Keep the sawing moving at a consistent speed. Stopping or having to reposition your body will cause edges to chip. If using plywood definitely tape the cut beforehand to prevent splintering.
Thanks for the test. Until we get a smart meter, I've been curious as to which would be the most energy efficient. Disappointed to see You let the induction method boil on for a few seconds past boil point. I bet it would be a lot. Closer to the kettle., if not better. It would be interesting to see if induction specific kettles are worth the money as opposed to a lightweight induction pan. Thanks again for your effort though. Think I'll stick with my ceramic coated induction jug.
Yes, not 100% scientific! The kettle was going to be the winner as it's going to chuck at least 99.9% of its 3kw into heating the water. Either way the induction did pretty well.
How wide tires in your frame?
I cooked in the Bosch oven chicken, for 1 h and 45 minutes,(including the preheating time).and the consumption was only 2 kWh! before,or after the air stop it didn't change the consumption..
The best is not using a small oven of 800 w for these cookings?
Awesome test! Just what I was looking for, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!
nice
What is your height and what size frame did you go for?
Excellent video Simon, much appreciated. Total sense when you explained the cleaning advantages of a single chainring setup. I would like to know how the bike rides and handles compared to what you get from your others - perhaps another video?
Do you race on gravel bike?
I don't, and my road bike would be a bit quicker as it's lighter. But I guess if I put some 28mm tyres on the Malt it wouldn't be bad at all for doing something like Velo.
Very knowledgeable Simon. Great review
Great review, loved the gear ratio explanation.
loved it Simon think I might get myself a Gravel bike
Tis mine!
