Hi I'm Max.
Vlog: Cape Brett Track Part 1
This is the Cape Brett Track in the Bay of Islands, NZ. I filmed this vlog in April 2016.
The Cape Brett Track is a hike of moderate difficulty about 4 hours north of Auckland. It follows a volcanically formed peninsula to its termination at the scene of the famous "Hole in the Rock." Should you choose to hike in and out, the tramp is 39 kilometers long. It is possible to shorten your hike, or not hike at all by taking a water taxi to the Department of Conservation hut on Cape Brett.
The views on this New Zealand tramp are stunning. I'll take you through them on part one of my Cape Brett Track Vlog.

Japanese way is the best way
All you need is goggles, knife and bag…..and a tidal fishing license! Different from a freshwater fishing license.
Yes mate they are pest around most of the coastline of Australia and there is a company who harvest these wretched things and export a lot to places such Japan for example. This is of a very sustainable resource and helps keep down some of the damage they cause.
you can eat everything inside, but it is an acquired taste, two spoons facing opposite and then pushed in the mouth side, then you can separate with them.
cooooool
where is this?
Thank you! I have been looking for this video for hours. How to actually catch them! Nice tips
you just grab them? They're not sharp on the spikes?
All I need is a bucket and a stick
Love the video, I’m going to do this hike pretty soon. FYI the traps you say are for possums are actually primarily for mustelids and rats. That said, I’ve seen a feral cat in one, as well as hedgehogs and even a very fat mouse. Generally a possum would not fit through the opening. DOC tend to use tree-mounted traps for possums, called Timms traps
Why? So many other things to eat.. 🤮
4.you must can swim... knock off
Are all of them edible?
How do you not get pricked? Trying to catch it in the water, cracking it open...
Common urchins in Australia are not as sharp as you think they are. You just need to handle them gently.

I am a vodka martini drinker, but my husband is straight gin. This was great- very informative and fun to watch!
Are all sea urchins edible or only female? How can you tell?
After splitting it using spoons of the opposite sides, shake out the guts of the urchin. It's better then scraping the unwanted pieces it comes out straight away.... Here we call them kinas in nz, and I love them. I could eat it everyday.
Great thanks!
wheres part 2?
How to kidnapp you need a knife a gun and a bag
I always thought they were sharp like a hypodermic needle
you forgot gloves?
dont understand people who eat with soya sauce...first wash and rinse sea water off and then dip in liquid salt...its weird to a kiwi. We love them on the beach or on some fry bread with butter.........YUUUUUUUUUUUUUM
Oarang nakakatakot gumagalaw hehe
Thank you for the gnarly video
Looks yummy🤤
I was at the Belize reef a week ago and nearly walked on 2 of these.
Yay i love this! I actually try not to wash the sea water taste out because thats what makes it taste great. We call this Kina in my culture (new zealand) and it is a part of all our events
Wonderful video...keep it up #Magichimalaya
it just looks like you're eating the ocean lol the taste is so special
Can all the type of Sea Urchin eaten? *Sorry for my bad english. 🙏
thanks for the video !!
That was Team Zissou-tastic.
Where is this
Thanks for the great video. How can you not get poked by those huge spines? I'm in Curacao and I see them in certain beaches but I'm afraid that if I try to grab them with my hand I'll get a spine stuck in my hand. Are their certain sea urchins that you should not try to grab? The ones out here are black with different size spines depending on the size of the sea urchin.
The spines are actually not very sharp for the species here in New South Wales, AU. As long as you are gentle, you won't get stuck with one. Other species can be sharper. I don't think there are any venomous ones around you mate, but it's worth more research. If that is the case, then get some diving gloves (or gardening gloves if you're on a budget) and have a go--gently.
@@MaxAdagio thank you very much!
Are there instances you get pricked by the sea urchins?
very helpful ! thx
You eat there ball sack
Best
Is there a certain season you have to go out, or are they a year long thing? The earliest I can go diving/fishing is in December(however it is in LA, which tends to stay the same year round so maybe it won't be too much of a factor)
nvm
Wait sea urchins have tiny needles in the mist how did he just pick it up Withought getting stung
They don't sting you!
i catch them with my bear hands here i``n greece you dont need knife
We don't use knives either (New Zealand) just use your hands😊
that looks like shit
They don't live up to 30 years. They live at least 30 years. They have been recorded to live over 200 years old.
How does sea urchin taste?
Poor creatures, the pain they feel being cut up alive! leave them alone.
NightOwl pussy
They don't have a brain
You have given me the confidence to try some next time I get to the Greek Islands
Get in, Howard!
can any urchin be eaten?
I am not sure if there are any kinds that have poisonous meat, but there are some kinds that have venomous spines.
Ok thanks for the info. I live on a tropical island and it is abundant here. Thought I might try it.
Ask a fisherman or restaurant before eating. Just be careful!
MaxAdagio yes I will thanks again :)
