    i have never seen a half way decent mainboard that doesnt have pretty bulky VRM cooling :0 my MSI and ASrock boards always had thick aluminium heatsinks. and i know older boards which even had full copper heatsinks. edit: i checked a super cheap AMD APU mainboard (no name) which is from 2011. I got it gifted and never tested it yet. and indeed it has no vram cooling. I will defenitely fix that. Luckely i have tons of heatsinks here. i will glue them on with thermal double sided glue tape

    This will give you constant radius curves. If you want proper transition curves draw two axes and use the "spirograph" method.

    I hope you take this as a Compliment and certainly not negatively, What this looks much MUCH Better than store bought for pennies on the dollar! Besides the trouble that the ladder was giving you,lol, In your opinion, What was the hardest part? I am guessing the soldering Was the most difficult? I have an electronics background, But that looked a little bit intimidating from the camera angle. What was the hardest part for you, Or have you made so many of these they are no longer an issue? 9 Absolutely.Amazing.Iyeah which I will be stealing from you😅

    Hi, I've just bought all the parts for this, and will see if I can make one. I've used many DCC auto reversing modules over the years on loops and turntables, and was always keen to see how they worked. I'm interested to see if there is any development on this using the H-Bridge option to replace the relay. I guess that is faster? Or just less moving parts. A PCB for this collection of components could be useful too to make a permanent module. What do you think of the other comment below that mentions detection on both rails - is that something important to consider? I'm using the Arduino to make a programmable turntable. I hope to integrate this reverser into the turntable and run it on the same Arduino.

  • @EliteRock
    @EliteRock 10 месяцев назад

    If your case has a cut-out in the MB tray (almost all do for cooler fitment), cut a 80/92/120x15mm fan out of its frame, stick it to the back of the MB (to the cooler backplate) with a few blobs of RTV, run it off a splitter from the CPU fan header. It will blow air from the cabling space into the gap between the MB and tray - VRM mosfets sink a LOT of their heat into the MB/PCB (which is intentional). This will usually net at least a c. 20 degree drop (and the fan will be inaudible in that location).

      hey I just got the gigabyte b660m ds3h and it's known to have horrible vrm temps. Should I try doing what you said? ( I'm planning on installing a i5 12400f and removing the power limit. It would be at 120w)

    • @EliteRock
      @EliteRock 9 месяцев назад

      @@irfok727 WHy not? Easier than fitting heatsinks and probably cools better. I used a Noctua 92x14mm (pained me to cut it up but it was what I had to hand) on my Asus z390 / 9900KF which has a notoriously hot-running 4+1 VRM, temps now stay under 50°C pulling c.160w in a UK summer (I did fit better thermal pads under the VRM heatsinks as well). One proviso, you need a case that will leave some space between the fan and the case cover if it's actually going to move a decent amount of air - ETA >> that's at least 15mm from MB tray to case cover.

      @@EliteRock thank you very much for your reply 🙏.

    • @EliteRock
      @EliteRock 9 месяцев назад

      @@irfok727 No problem! Like I said, use a few blobs of RTV silicon to attach the (frameless) fan to the CPU/cooler backplate (clean everything with a wipe of alcohol first), give it time to cure/set. It will hold the fan securely, but easy to remove if needed.

    Many thanks! With the help of this video, I finished my layout at a much lower cost. During this, I found a small problem. The current detection is implemented for one rail, which is enough for most of the time. The short circuit usually happens in both rails. But for some short locomotives, one of a pair of wheels is a traction tire. So the short circuit first happens only in one rail, then spread to the whole layout. In this case, if that rail is not the rail monitored by the module, the module will not flip the polarity in the first place. The DCC command will jump in before the module. So we lost power before the polarity is flipped. I managed to monitor two rails with the small modification to solve this problem. Hope this information is helpful.
