Glad to see you back. Really enjoy your videos and love your cutting mat! I hope life and work allow you a bit more time to make some more videos and get back into the hobby.
Just started a box with a platoon for Chain of Commandd in mind. To do that one actually needs two more sprues but these are easily available from Warlord, firms like the Sprue Shop or on e-bay. Just one bit of kit-bashing. I wasn't prepared to go to the fuss of cutting off a hand to attach the pistol hand for the officer. Used a pistol holding arm from the Wargames Atlantic Panzer Lehr (which overall as figures I don't like as much as these)
glad to see you're back at it! Looking forward to the next one
Thank you!
great video!
Thank you
It's great to see you back! So far it looks like most armies will work in 3rd edition without issue. You might just need a few extra officer minis and a command vehicle.
It would be good if I didn't have to make too many changes. I will need a few more officer minis. Would you recommend any particular command vehicle? for early war
@@MercenaryMiniatures the rules we’ve seen say that if you don’t have a command vehicle you can upgrade one to a command vehicle. But Warlord has been tight lipped on what exactly that means and what counts. What we know is you need at least 2 tanks or Armoured Cars (or 1 of each) and one has to have the command rule.
@@MercenaryMiniatures If you want historical German Command Vehicles for the Invasion of France you'll probably want a SdKfz 263, a SdKfz 265, or a SdKfz 250/3. For France, they didn't really have specific command vehicles so it would be the same tank as the rest of the Platoon only with the tank commander having to command the other tanks with flags.
@@Featherus_ I think adding a SdKfz would be a good move. I really like the model that came with the Gentleman's war box set. I think you can get that individually now.
So nice to see your videos again!
More to come!
Welcome to Bolt Action. It is sooo beautiful! 20 Men At Arms are a great Project! 1:45 Read the 2nd Edition Rule book. Some rules will Change... But they are not Useless. Use them as a base. You will Play Games. It is one of the Best Games I have ever Played. I love the Fantasy and 40k.... but BA is truly Great! Look trough my latest Videos to see and learn the game. Grey and Blue Order Dice! If you have questions about the Game... I am happy to answer them. Each Bolt Action Player should have fun face to face with friends!
Thank you. It really looks an amazing game.
We got a stack of stuff at the beginning of the year at Cancon. It was our first foray into Bolt Action but we still needed a few more things. I was wondering what the cost of your orders dice was out of curiosity. Even from a discounted war games shop the boxes cost me $34 Aus. But I know that prices in Australia and New Zealand are significantly higher than elsewhere, even after conversion to the same currency.
Thank you. Here in the UK, you can pick the order dice up for £14.40 from a discounted war games shop. I know that in Australia and New Zealand you guys pay so much more. Its so unfair.
Woohoow! Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the next one(s)!
Thanks for watching!
In relation to the blast template it's pretty safe to say it will still be part of 3rd edition. Looking at the image of the Battle of the Bulge starter set being released for 3rd Ed., the blast template is clearly in the image on the website
Thank you. I hadn't noticed that in the picture. They are not awful, but I would prefer something like acrylic plastic, if that makes sense. I am sure 3rd party companies must make them.
Great to see you back and I agree that 3rd edition gets me excited and into Bolt Action again as well. I am still waiting with additional purchases to see how the new edition will change everything. But once it's more known one of the sets with a A5 rulebook will make it's way to me (with a few bits extra of course).
You have to have the few extra bits lol, Do you like the look of any of the box sets. I really like the gentlemen's war box set. I would love to start a desert themed board.
@@MercenaryMiniatures Yes, I can recommend the Gentlemen's War set. I think it's the best one overall, since both sides are equal in terms of units. However it doesn't come with any terrain (unlike the other starter sets). When 3rd edition is released I'm planning on getting the Band of Brothers one. It will get me the new rulebook (in A5 format which I prefer), some extra order dice etc and I can use the Hanomag + some infantry as addition to my Afrika Korps.
@@roha2317 Do you think they will be re-release the current box sets with the new rulebook? I haven't seen any confirmation from Warlord Games.
Glad to see you back
Thank you!
Could you make a series about how to play bolt action?
I would like to do this. I will wait for the 3rd edition drop and maybe film a complete beginner set of videos. Would be good for us to learn as I learn.
@@MercenaryMiniaturesI’ll definitely tune in to that!
❤ Well done
Happy to see you’re back France has gotten some love recently by warlord so it’s a great time to hop back in!
I know, I have seen them. My bank balance is telling me no, but my heart is telling me yes. Warlord Games has really knocked it out of the park with the new French plastics.
I hope you enjoy this short update. I am looking forward to getting back into the hobby and getting to grips with Bolt Action 3rd edition. Thank you - Gareth
I do wash metal miniatures. a drop of dish soap and warm water, scrub with a toothbrush and rinse. It helps paint shouldn't chip after sealing
I will need to start doing this!
Good to see you back, congratulations on extending your family! Some advice for French artillery, early war french get a free artillery / anti tank gun and it doesn't take up the artillery slot, so you might consider getting two. (Although bolt action 3rd edition is changing how you build your armies so this is kind of a moot point, never the less the French built their army around forward deployed artillery so you can't have too much) For armored cars, for Germany the Sd Kfz 222 would probably be the most historically accurate and the Panhard for the French I believe I mentioned before but but for tanks, for the Germans the Panzer I or II would be the most historically accurate and for the French the Renault R35 would be the most historically accurate.
Thank you! I will be uploading a new video tomorrow. I shall be back at it and looking forward to 3rd edition.
Hello. I just finished watching all videos on you'r channel. :( Could you please add more? ♥
Thank you for your support. I am back at it. I will be uploading a new video tomorrow at 6:00pm (UK Time)
@@MercenaryMiniaturesGreat news! Have you played a bolt actiom game allready?
@@rutek2103 Not yet! But watched a lot of battle reports
I'm lucky that Warlord Games has the French now in plastic. But Wargames Atlantic makes nice models too apparently. I'll remember them for the future. Great work!
Yes, those Warlord Games French look really good! I think I will be picking them up next.
Truly impressive work. And very inspiring to a starting Bolt Action person like me. Thank you!
Thank you
lovely minies lovely channel, metal minies will never chip if you use a primer.
Thank you. I think I am just clumsy with them. Since properly priming them and varnishing them, I have had less chips.
Amazing video definitely worth the wait and can’t wait for what’s to come
Thank you. I have a new video uploading tomorrow at 6:00pm (UK Time)
Wargames atlantic are working on early war british that might be up your alley
I know... I think they will be the next project after these two are finished.
Definitely the best way to learn the rules is to play as you read. It engages the rule process and answers questions on the fly. Just kidnap a passing member of the public to game the other units. When watching the battle reports, do you find the gamers seem to lack the basic tactical awareness?
So for shading, try Agrax Earthshade if you have it to hand. It still darkens but is a brown tint which works nicely. I also have Battlefront shades, Rommel Shade and Monty shade which I got for my Flames of War desert forces. The Battlefront paints were developed in conjunction with Vallejo I believe, so there shouldn't be a huge colour shock.
Thank you. I have tried Agrax Earthshade before. I need to use it more, but still hooked on Nulm Oil.
By the way, Len Deighton's book Blitzkrieg presents an interesting view of the early war in France. Meanwhile, did you work out that the axles for the wheels were included in the baggy the wheels came in?
I will check that book out! I did get the axle issue sorted in the end. But had to email Warlord Games directly lol
Curious about the colour scheme you chose. While that green colour was present in the French army in 1940, as I understand it Horizon Blue was the colour for the standard infantry. That yellow ochre colour would have been more applicable to the Sudanese troops. However, I am happy to be educated on the matter.
No, you are 100% correct. The honest answer is I didn't properly research the uniform colour before painting the first unit. Then I played post scriptum on the PC and realised that I had the colour wrong. But I made the decision to go with it.
One last observation. It was good to see someone who isn't scared to play more than one gaming system. I have found a lot of Bolt Action vloggers feel they have to slag off GW to promote Bolt Action which only shows them to be insecure. I am sure War Lord Games don't approve, especially since a bunch of them cut their teeth on this stuff at GW. In the mean time, I like you am new to Bolt Action but have been collecting and painting minnies since I were a lad. My son and I have at least 15 gaming systems of all sorts and types. Go with what you love I say.
I really like this message. Brutally, we wouldn't have as vibrant a wargaming hobby without Games Workshop in it. And they do make some of the best miniatures in the world. I have always taken the view that the wargaming world is big enough for everyone.
So, it is a shame you are finding life difficult with the metal miniatures. But here are some observations and tips. Maybe paint the varnish on if your troops continue to chip. I have the metal version of Scorpions, Dragons and Banshee which I painted up in the mid naughties (Ironically with metallic paints). I painted on a matt varnish I got from an arts supply shop and non have chipped or rubbed the paint off. On the other hand I have a tradies tin of British Wellesley figures, (They were never Napoleonic's, they owned the French) all metal that I never varnished. Though it has been a while, the paint is still quite good. When dealing with bent metal parts warm them with water before attempting to straighten. Then put a supporting finger behind the point of the bend and use another to straighten the piece out by pushing the length of the part into the support finger rather than trying it from the tip of the bent item. The same applies to those pesky bent resin parts. But the point is the stress of the movement is supported and born across the whole piece rather than just at the point of the bend. It still does not look like you have a hand grip for holding the miniatures when painting. Work something out because the whole process will be so much more stable. You must be aware of this sort of thing from GW and their products But you don't have to buy them, just look at what other hobbyists are doing on the web. Mid Winter Minnie's, Ninjon, The Painting Phase etc... How are you traveling with finding other early war gamers for Bolt Action. My son and I settled for late war because there seemed more options and it does not appear as though Bolt Action players worry about periods of the war. This puts early war forces at a disadvantage because 1939 weapons are underpowered compared with 1944 weapons. Hope to see you again.
Congratulations on the new born. Lots of fun and terror to be had with them for the rest of your life. I have two boys now in their 30's. They are bigger than me, bruise when they punch and we still engage in common interests. Be involved now and you will be for life.
ive really enjoyed teh series and look forward to seeing more, congratulations on your son.......a tip for preventing chipping on metal models i used gloss varnish as its harder and helps prevent the chipping then go over it with a matt varnish to give a realistic finish
Thank you, I will take a look at that.
Early war has always been smth tempting. Might get around to it one day
This is minor detail but the lmgs are actually mmgs
Outstanding work!
Thank You!
Hi where can I find the paint list please
Hi, if you click on "MORE" in the video description underneath the video you will find a list of paints that I have used. If you need anything more specific, please let me know.
Buy the 1940 scenario book from too fat Lardies there is the Chain of Command book or the printable file for platoon actions and supports. The I Ain’t Been Shot Mum for company actions and supports then there I ‘O’ Group for Battalion level actions and supports. I know it sounds silly but I have no idea what size battles are played with Bolt Action although I have the rule book for version 1. However I would look at too fat Lardies web site and forums to see if they can be of any help. Also look at Storm of Steel you tube videos just search for storm of steel and see what he has reviewed. He does know what he is talking about.
I’m painting BEF and Blitzkrieg Germans so this will be very helpful
Thank you! What models are you using for the BEF? I have been on the lookout for some good ones. Preferably plastic, but these are hard to come by
@@MercenaryMiniatures My BEF infantry. Are some metal castings in 28mm from Warlord games iSight them for Chain of Command. I bought some 20mm from SHQ (I think) bought for I Ain’t Been Shot Mum but I didn’t buy any vehicles at the time but I can’t get any 20mm such as the 15cwt Bedford or the Morris 8 15cwt truck. I should have bought AB 20mm as they do a good range but more expensive. So I’m going for Late War Brits 15mm for O Group where I can still buy all the kit that I need from Plastic Soldier Company who I think do 20mm vehicles. My eye sight is now poor so I may find I can’t pain anything.
Congratulations on the birth of your son, great video 👍
Thank you
Congratulations on the new addition to the family! And glad you are getting back to some hobby time where you can. On the subject of varnishing - I remember reading that a gloss or satin coat before a matt varnish could possibly help protect your metal miniatures more?
Thank you, it's still a balance fitting in hobby time. But its definitely getting easier. I will give that a try out! thank you for the tip
Love em! Thank you for showing me what ain the box and what you can build of of them!!!
Its such an amazing box, so many possibilities to fix with other sets.
Thank you so much! Great Paintjob!
Thank you.
Thank you!
Are they 1/76 or 1/72 scale
They are 28mm - I am not sure what scale that best fits.
Splendid figures here, love the side car...and already waiting for the walls on the base! Congrats for your son, goooooooooood news!
Thanks You! New video coming soon and I will hopeful get that finished.
Love the colour scheme and paint. What did you use for the orange leaves on the base?
Thank you. For the orange leaves I used a standard orange flock. The type you would get from a train modelling shop. It came as a sheet and I just pulled some of it off.
3:15 The figure got shot
lol 😂
I love these video's the french are my favorite
Thank you for watching!
could i recommend Tamiya Surface primer. it comes in a rattle can and is a very durable primer due to it being a Lacquer paint. It can be slightly pricey but i find that one can can do a whole army. I think this will reduce the amount of paint chipping straight to the metal. Its tough as old boots and i think it will solve this problem somewhat. It stinks so you must spray outdoors.
Thank you, that is a good suggestion that I will try out. Do you know if it leaves the models looking glossy or clear?
Just to be clear it is a primer and not a Varnish. My thought process is that the paint might adhere to it better. But it will not chip off the metal so easily as other primers. worth a try at least.@@MercenaryMiniatures
