Robben puts this rhythm method into overdrive, when talking about color. Someone that I used to sit in with assisted me years ago in how to "add color" to the band instead of trying to stand out. I love his flow, and met him back in the early 90's when I worked with Bruce Willis. Bruce used to fly Robben in have him perform at his Sun Valley Idaho club called The Dynamite Lounge. Those were some great performances!! A plethora of knowledge, master performer, and tasty chops while satisfy your soul every time... ~Thank you, Robben~

Just about any style of playing, blues, jazz, folk etc. Can be adapted to accommodate other styles. But "Blues" i think more than any other style lends itself so well to guitar and is so versatile that it has really evolved into a whole approach to guitar that goes beyond blues music itself into pretty much any and every type of music where guitar is present. Pretty much all guitar players incorporate some aspects of blues guitar into their vocabulary to some degree. From straight up blues players to those who use the traditional idiosyncrasies of the blues in all sorts of ways and all sorts of styles.

If I had a dollar for every great guitar player I have heard say, “I can’t read” or “I don’t know anything about theory”, then start talking about E flat 5 dim. Wha? Like Robben says in his intro, some people are born with a physical inclination to play sax, trumpet or guitar. Unfortunately, I think the same is true for the mental or what I call the “math-y” side of music. I have always loved music. Had my first Beatles record in 2nd grade. Love blues, jazz, funk, reggae, bluegrass, zydeco, Texas swing and Japanese Future Core. Big fan of Robben, Derek and the Dominoes, Allman Bros, George Benson, Larry Coryell, Bob Wills, Buddy Emmons, Vince Gill, Jeff Beck, etc. etc Learned to play dozens of the songs I loved by ear and tab and lots of memorization. The “how” of guitar playing was never a problem. The “why” is what I wanted. I have tried many times to get into the theory stuff, but when music starts looking and feeling like a chemistry equation, my brain just shuts off. From my earliest days I tested through the roof on verbal skills-math, the complete opposite. A few of my friend s from high school that I used to play with went to Berklee and I was always envious of all you guys who were born with that gift of the “theory gene” 😂

Awesome ! I saw Blueline in Toronto a number of years ago ,, a great blues sensibility with jazz added ,, a great example of the 2 genres mixing ., what a time feel !!

Saw his group at a Blues Festival, Santa Cruz, Calif., mid-90s. They headlined. IIRC Coco Montoya, Buddy Guy, Luther Allison played amazing sets. Robben Ford & band came on and played Jazz not a single blues riff. Everyone got up and left. I wonder what the hell he thought he was doing. Oh well great afternoon all-in-all, lol.

My buddy gave me this on dvd years ago when I was really getting into learning blues licks on guitar blah blah. Always thought this was so hard to sit through. He’s very awkward and just kinda creeps me out. But at least he’s willing to teach his ways unlike a lot of artists. Respect!

I saw Robben open up for Chuck Berry at Foothill college in the bay area...he was around my age, he was like 17....Berry gave him a solo and he whipped thru 24 bars in a bluesy rock yet outside sound...Berry got pissed at him... hahahahahahaha...his older brother had a blues band, Mark, I think...they opened for Berry

He only teach the chords ,but the thing ho real make the music are the rythm,and that you have figure out yourself
