Guy LUF / SARO LJW336 has come out of the winter break very difficult to start. With new batteries and a lot of care, the bus was started, but there was clearly a lot of unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Quite a dramatic start, but after a bit of running off the public road, a short test run followed. Not the best video (hand-held phone), but fun anyway.

Having been released from lockdown, the Museum is now once again open on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 10.30 to 16.00. On the reopening day, a few lucky visitors had a short ride on Birmingham City Transport Park Royal bodied Leyland PD2 2222.

Something that hasn't been seen for a good few years, a Travel West Midlands Metrorider moving under its own - and fairly considerable - power. At Aldridge, and while preparing for paint, 685 was shuffled into a new position; after many years idle, the excellent Cummins 5.9 litre B-series engine started very quickly and soon had the bus in its new position.

At Aldridge, RM506 initially complained about starting after months of lockdown and the starter pinion stuck. A little gentle assistance, and away it went. A little smoke came into the saloon via the open bellhousing; Leyland O.600 have a tendency to smoke through the joint in the exhaust manifold for the first minute or so, until it all expands and tightens. Nearly time to go for a ride!
