Просмотров 1219 месяцев назад
Came for the mystery, stayed for the atmosphere: notes on rereading Dead Man's Folly at the right moment and from a personal perspective. SPOILERS for some major plot elements, but not the entire mystery. Folly (noun) - 1. Foolishness or deficiency in understanding; lack of good sense. Also: unwise conduct (OED, 1.a.); 2. An ornamental structure or building, such as a tower, temple, or artifici...
Satire Is a Spiral: Looking Back to See Ourselves / Miracle Workers S2

You can tell satire is well-written when it magnifies and reflects well - whether it's deep or light-hearted. This is the way it works in Miracle Workers: Dark Ages, fully engaging our imaginations, and making it my favorite part of the anthology. Hope you enjoy this mini-essay! 0:00 - Introduction 1:00 - The World 3:18 - The People Music: Epidemic Sound
Timeless Appeal and Uneven Adaptations of the Orient Express

This is a deep dive into Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express (1934). I look at how the mystery works and attempt to understand why we've been able to relate for almost a century. Spoiler: it's not just about the unique reveal. This is a book-centered essay which closely examines three film adaptations. Hope you enjoy it! (And feel free to speed up - I'm still getting the hang of narr...
When Apocalypse Is Just Another Day at the Office / Miracle Workers

Miracle Workers S1 is silly and poignant, funny and a bit bizarre. I like it for its satire; I love it for the suggestion that our messiness isn't an obstacle to fixing things - or, at least, not an impossible one. 0:00 - The Premise 1:49 - The Chaos 4:50 - The Care 6:17 - The Plurality 7:54 - The End Sound: Epidemic Music

In the final scene of “ Bargaining “ they play Kate Bush. Kate has explored many themes of being a woman in her songs. “ Under the Ivy” was the perfect song to be playing during that end scene.

Thank you, and I agree! Knowing about the song’s author adds even more depth to this already powerful choice.

LOVED it. Extraordinary in so many ways. If I were Mrs. Hubbard, I'd tip my wig to the authoress.
