Nice Video, made me order one!
Thanks, it sounds even better in real life! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed 😊
Great quality Bill as always, I'm sure I can still smell that gorse, love it. It was a beautiful day that one.👍
Thanks, it was a cracking day with great weather once we got away from the East coast.
wow lad.. I hope that rear tire has enough life left. i recon you lost a thousand miles of ordinary use.. As a lad I just used some lollipop sticks in my spokes but I recon a gold standard chain lock is a step above.. Nice to see that you took it in your stride. Onwards pilgrims .💯📽🎬
Certainly lost a few miles across the central part. I usually get a refund on the edges so makes a new set cheaper 😄
@@SleekitFkr 😂😂😂😁😆💯👍👍👍
Been missing the BW footage mucker, keep up the good work!
Cheers mate 👍
It should have read just after Braemar it got bloody loud !! 😂
It is a sweet exhaust mate 😉
Nice video, I was just wondering the other day how you were getting on. I did that route to Braemar regularly when I lived in Kinross, great roads. The burger van on the way out of Blairgowrie towards Braemar is one of the best I’ve ever tried! Bike sounds great too!
Hiya mate, it has been a while! Great roads in that area to be sure. Hope your well 😊
Finally one person DID it!! thank you so much !!!!
Quite the suffering!
It was enjoyable! To achieve it on my fifth attempt 😊
usually approaching fast on sharp curves with my road king I noticed when I hit the brake it feels like I will over shot, so to make smoother and have more control and lean I use engine break or at times down shift. How is it on a DCT when you approach fast on a sharp curve? Thanks
Hi, it’s dependant on the mode with the Wing in my view. It sport mode you can pretty much ride it like you stole it! It will downshift as you easy of the throttle or brake. In Tour mode it’s a bit more laid back but pushing on in tour mode you tend to use the brake more. There is always the option of manual mode which gives you full control of when and where you downshift on the approach. The wing is more that capable of keeping up or besting similar sized bikes, the only time it tends to lose out is as the curves get tighter. Ya can’t beat physics! 😁
That was scarry. Also want to meantion this channel is a gem, wonder why so few subs. I am with you since super tenere, it was sad you've sold it. Now I have s10 myself but starting looking at wing because of comfort... and you already sold it :D. Hope your missus likes gs1250.
Thanks mate, at the time it was nerve wracking! For various reasons I’ve not had many miles on the GS so far but aim to change that this year. Susan hasn’t been on the GS yet! She’ll HAVE to like it 😊
Fascinating to watch but your mic needs to be sorted , it sounds like your running up stairs with a bad cold! Had to watch with the sound off!!!
Yeah, didn’t notice the Darth Vader effect until post. Since sorted 😊
Amazing transparent dome, please share with me where you got it
Hi, I’m not sure what the “transparent dome” you refer it is. Is it the windshield?
@@SleekitFkr Yes, the windshield
@@rafamasterz This was the genuine BMW accessory that was fitted to the loan bike.
@@SleekitFkr thanks man
You all don't give the deuces to fellow riders on the road? I'm guessing because your right hands are on the throttle. In the States, on the right side of roads, our left is free to wave to other riders.
Wrong my friend, we nod! You’re right in that our right hand is occupied but generally we give a head nod. Some, including me occasionally, will wave with the left hand.
Whats the average fuel consumption on this beast;
I don’t know about mpg but from the 21ltr tank I could get about 220-230 at a steady 80mph
Sounds good mate 👍
Thanks, better in real life 😁
I was tense just watching that “squeaky bum” snow-mountain ride. Well ridden sir!
Thanks, not something I’d wish to repeat 🤭
That was some impressive filtering on the ‘Wing. You certainly know your bike!
Thanks. Much the same as any other bike, you just need a wider gap!
I had a go on the F900XR as a loner and liked it although my height and the screen didn’t work well, so much noise in my helmet.
I did notice the increase in wind noise to TBH the Shoei is so quiet that it would’ve been bearable in the long term if I were to have a naked. Not gonna happen to be fair but it was a very nice taste of something different 👍
Didnae blip it on downshift lad your GS has autoblipper hence 4th to 4th
I don’t like use it on the downshift. The issue was me not tapping the shift lever firmly. Happening much less often now. Nearly two years of not shifting at all made me VERY rusty
@@SleekitFkr we all been there lad just try to help fellow biker nothing wrong with regular shifting while going down just all beemers with quickshifter come with auto blipper that's constantly on changing up or down. Anyway nice bike lad enjoy 💪✌️❤️
@@modifiedMotorsport2023 it’s something that I may use once I get back into the way of things. I do love the upshifter 😁
As regards the anakee adventures, our kid swears by them, as you know he chucks the GSA aboot a wee bit!
After a few more miles on them they do seem ok. I’ll still switch over the Michelin R6’s once these are shot.
If I remember my Gaelic think it’s something like Balck Falls. But I don’t remember that much Gaelic but luckily was there two years ago and someone told me.
Yeah, really nice spot and a bit off the beaten track for most.
The gear change does improve with mileage but they aren't the best gearboxes! TBF I don't think about it now, I rarely use the upshifter but do use the downshifter. It must be quite a change from the Goldwing for sure!
I use the upshifter a lot, especially during overtakes but never the downshifter. You’re right, a big change from the Wing but not missing it!
That's lovely! I've had several GS's as you know, 1250 was my favourite. I was waiting to see what the new 1300 was like, not massively convinced so I'm thinking seriously about another 1250. I need the low chassis version, I've got even shorter legs than you! Love the Rallye colours too. The quick shifter will hopefully improve with age, on mine it was fine going up with a gentle throttle above 2500rpm. Coming down the box was a bit more agricultural, but I found it worked ok as long as you were braking without blipping the throttle as long as you let the revs drop to about 2000rpm before changing. For changing down before an overtake etc I would always use the clutch. I didn't love the Anakee's at first, but I got used to them, the tele lever suspension makes the front feel a bit odd at first anyway. That said, I replaced them with Bridgestones when the time came, and from memory I preferred them. They're incredibly versatile bikes that do absolutely everything - good choice.
Thanks mate. The best colour IMHO. Not gonna use the shifter for downshifting. I block change a lot as well as the fact I like the sound when I “blip” 😉 It does seem a true do it all bike. Maybe a keeper 😱
Meant to saw Graeme, when the Anakee’s are shot I’ll probably go for Michelin R5 or R6. Had them on the Tenere and they were very good.
looking forward to more videos on your new BMW. My buddy just got a K1600 GTL. He is determined to have me sell the 2018 GW Tour DCT and get a BMW. A lot of riders in southern California have your bike. I also have a 2016 ST1300 (PanEuropean). I'll keep doing homework and watching videos before I buy BMW
Thanks. Rode a lot more since this video was shot and the more I ride it the more I love it 😁 In a perfect world I’d keep the Wing and also get a K1300r. But it ain’t a perfect world 😂
Nice choice have had several models since 2011 and loved riding them all. Some people complain about the Anakee 3 tyres but never had a problem myself. Currently running with Bridgestones again complaints about them with strange wear but mine have been ok so far.
Thanks. I’m totally smitten 🤩 with it. Such a good bike to ride. Really looking forward to putting the miles on this.
@@SleekitFkr once used to it you’ll be surprised how far it will lean for such a tall bike. The quick shifter works well but it can vary from bike to bike and you need to find out where in the up/down cycle to change for the best. People say changes up best when nailing it but I’ve never found that I find being nice and smooth on the throttle works best as you build the revs. The other thing about the quick shifter is it usually gets better with age or rather mileage. My first bike with a quick shifter was a felt bit clunky at first but did a 3500 mile trip to the Picos and by the time I got home it was much better.
Nice bike the Goldwing but lots to keep through winter. I’m sure your new bike is most likely a BMW from Dalkeith Motorrad although could be mistaken.
🤫 🤭
Totally get what you are saying about the salt damage if not washed off and kept super clean. I'll be interested to see your replacement. The new GS ?
If I had a garage and could have two bikes life would be grand but ….😞
Stunning scenery, and a great advert for the Insta360. 👍
Thanks. The 360 does add an extra time consuming step but seems worth it with so much to see 👍
Omg my knees were knocking just watching, well done, great views.
Cheers mate. The vids, anyone’s vids, don’t do it justice. The Mark1 eyeball shows the true majesty of the place 😉
a coward
Were the roads maintained there?
Generally yes. The UK roads are shocking. Most of the continental roads were are smooth as silk.
Let's swap houses for a bit. Sunny Temecula California with a white Goldwing DCT Tour, and I'll borrow your house in Scotland and Wing!
Tempting!

@@SleekitFkr it was fantastic, I love Switzerland and the ride to get there!! I was reminiscing watching your video 👍
1:31 I’ve gotta hand it to you for riding in that rain
It’s a must on these rides. One of my previous attempts at this ride (on a different bike) was done entirely in those conditions. I remained completely dry except my hands, the Gortex gloves eventually gave up!
Well done mate, I'm doing the rblr 1000 in June. 😮
Thanks. Best of luck for your 1000 👍
As I anticipated in my comment to your last video, absolute mayhem at the ports and it happens every bank holiday weekend, and unless you have to, it's always best avoided. Nice filtering skills on such a big bike though 🙂
You can hear my regret at going as far a Dover. In planning some options had me stop short of Dover but always meant adding more miles in Cornwall’s non dual carriageway roads. Lesson learned though! 👍
You were unlucky, I used to live down there when I worked for Pfizer, that BP was my local fuel station - don’t remember ever seeing traffic like that. Top marks for the filtering 👍
@@graemebrown5540 cheers mate. Didn’t know you’d worked in that area. I was lucky I was early, as you know it became much worse!
I agree, its stunning and epic with mist and clouds.
Thanks Robin. It’s a stunning place and every time I go through it it’s different. The light and weather is so variable 😉
Watching with much interest, I have always been tempted by some of the Iron Butt rides, so great to get some "insight". I live near Dover, so fully aware of the potential mayhem you are likely to encounter, looking forward to the next episode with much anticipation :-)
Cheers mate. This would be one of the more challenging rides to be fair! Glad you enjoyed 👍
Getting ads now!! Wow 🎉
Not monetised, just RUclips doing it’s thing!
Can you ride it all day? If so, for How many hours?
Hi, up until now I’ve ridden some 8hr+ days on the Wing on the way to/from Orkney but with breaks whenever I wanted them. The “Fools Gold” ride will be about 3 1/2hrs, 6-8mins for fuel then the next 3 1/2hrs and repeat and repeat…. Did that sort of ride on every other bike I’ve had and they were much less comfortable than the wing. It should be fine, time is always the issue! Cheers!
Love it! Nice roads and beautiful bike. Congrats.
Thanks mate, it can be a lovely road especially in the summer 👍

Great road the 701 prefer it to the 702, easier to make progress. Looks better than last time in the snow👍
Agree on the road and yes much less traumatic than last time 🤭
What camera you used?
Hi, a DJI action and a Insta One RS.
Had same problem dealers had no idea ended up sorting it my self turned out to be faulty dct relay
ECU needed a software update to fix the issue so believe.
What was the recall about, a little bit difficult to hear what you say ? Best regards
Sorry about the sound, it’s giving me much grief at the moment. A letter from Honda noted various models equipped with DCT transmissions were to visit dealers for a free update to the ECU. The fault could cause loss of all drive without warning as happened to me. A free 30min fix.
Ok mine is a dct 2019, maybe affekts me too

Used to work & play on those roads. Now I live in Yorkshire. Which is nice, but I do miss home. Also, as an owner of a 1984 Wing, I don't half fancy a go on its great great Granddaughter
Thanks Duncan. Yes it’s nice to have these roads on my doorstep so to speak but Yorkshire isn’t half bad for good riding roads too. I’ve never ridden one of the older wings but hear it’s a night and day kind of experience in the riding difference. Get yourself a test ride mate 😉
