I'll admit, I dont have much room to speak on the topic. I was always intrigued by League of Legends lore but never got into it until I watched all of Arcane recently. I was curious on the controversy and this kind of sums up what Ive been hearing. Whats even more disappointing is that Arcane is canon. Usually Id want it the other way around but because it's canon, it makes things all the more confusing. If they wanna say oh its a different time line since time is now involved sure but idk. I would've loved a separate experience to the lore and then gradually find my self to the canon one.

I don't hate the new viktor, I think the old viktor would have been cooler but the new one is also good, I will say though the thing about his in-game appearance not commiting to any side is so true. When I saw the design and the reaction to it, it seemed that the vgu wasn't close enough to his original design to please the league of legends players and it wasn't close enough to his arcane design to please the arcane fans, what was the goal here?

They dropped the ball towards the end of season 2 with Viktor. I think they wanted a big evil bad guy to end the show and Viktor drew the short straw. All the design changes seem to be for the sole purpose of using him to make Hextech the bad guy. I also think the in game model looks really strange due to the weird double cape. It has the same sort of physics as Aurelion Sol's tail and its brighter and thicker than any of Viktor's limbs so it ends up being really distracting.

One issue with the old Viktor is that he looks like a man in armor with an arm strapped on, nothing special, not evolved.

Only thing i miss about old viktor is how the new one took the idea of "glorius evolution" and just made it magic, sure to one degree that is very cool but new viktor isnt upgrades through science, its just magic, viktor is not a machine he is a mage, and couldnt they just have made viktor into a "half mage" that the hex core makes im into a mage by certain degree but then he uses its power to upgrade himself with metalls and enginering into the true glorius evolution, Viktors goal is to get rid of problems, how does he intend to do it, through forging everyone into one mind, and i dont know about you but i think him making neurolinks instead of using magic seems more "machine" and "hivemind" like then just abracadabra, then also his design is abit weird, he looks like slenderman with psoriasis and an identity crisis, if he just was abit shorter and less slender then it would have been perfect Conclusion: Viktor is no longer the machine harold, he is the semi mage semi machine semi ozempic harold if you want a good design of a machine/magic person then Draedon from terraria calamity mod is the perfect example

I just don't understand why they couldn't give is a Traditional Viktor skin or do what they did with Thresh where he has a new canonical appearance now and has a skin to show it. This genuinely sucks as Viktor was one of the few Mid Laners I played and I played him because I liked the design. Now I just feel disdain for it.

I think the whole lore change would've been handled better if they didn't rush it into being the canon, like give that canon possession first after like 3 shows or something for people to actually feel and like the lore changes (also like, why couldn't they just release an updated old viktor as a skin alongside the new one ?) Also, the mask is more like a mutation due to the arcane than him consciously adding it to himself (as far as I can tell)

Completely destroyed Viktors core identity and appeal. Aside from the third arm and name he's unrecognisable, could be a completely different champion.

As someone who has enjoyed Arcane and only knows people who play LoL. I believe if they want to satisfy most people, they should commit to the sorce or the new cannon; but as someone who's enjoyed Star Wars, I just want my originals back.

I agree on all of the ingame changes its really suck. But lore changed even in season 1, viktor cant just remain the same selfbuilt herald with big armor. In old lore hextech is a MINERAL that mined in shurima left by scarner scorpion race, with no will in it. But in arcane hextech is a WAY to control magical energy through technology. And magic seemed to have his own mind. Technology aspect of Viktor dont need to be grotesc-like, he is mage now with seemed weak but indestructable body and glorius evolution by magic not technology.

about 6:49 - I kind of see your point but let's not forget the series is called arcane, and that is what it is talking about. So full arcane controlled victor still in the "extremist" old way but forced to tell thng about human nature seem a pretty good choice. i agree that the lore isn't forcing this kind of visual style though.

The way Jayce is carrying his Hammer also looks a bit similar to how one would carry a Cross. I think that it represents his problems, like that expression "Everyone carries a cross". He used that hammer to kill a kid and do a lot more, so comparing it to a cross wouldn't be too far fetched if you think about it.

i´ve been a League player for over 8 Years and at the moment i´m thinking of deleting the Riot client and never looking back. The Problem is, Riot took something from us, a Character and a Concept many of us loved, for apparently no reason. Shame.

as someone who never played league because of the difficulty level but had a league lore phase pre arcane release (i am now playing it though), i also absolutely hate the rework. old viktor had a charm because he was unique in the roster. now i do love arcane, i think its one of the best videogame shows ever made, and i especially love viktor in arcane (season 1 viktor) but even what they did with viktor in the show irked me so bad. i just wanted the machine herald, for gods sake! the entirety of season 2 i was waiting for him to evolve further but he never did, and now they just slapped a design on his ingame version that doesn't look like arcane viktor OR the old viktor. if you want to make him more accurate to arcane you would've had my respect at least if you actually made him look like the show version. i do think there's some criticism here rooted in homophobia (ex. "skinny twink" comments and how he's not "masculine" anymore which sparks hateful thinking) which i don't agree with because i think the old arcane version of viktor looks fine, but it just doesn't match up with league as a game. (besides you don't have to be a twink to be gay) my point is, revert the rework, update his mobility, release arcane endgame viktor as a skin or whatever so everyone is happy. the new league viktor looks so bad it's not even funny

Season 2 could have used a few more seasons to tie everything, not just together, but in general. If they made S2 of the same quality as the first one, it would have been like 3-4 seasons.

It sucks the same way if they reworked Cho'Gath and his prehistoric skin was the new base. Basically changed from an insectoid alien to a dinosaur monster. Viktor was changed from a Machine Man to a Magic Man and it don't make sense.

Technically, since Viktor was trapped in a paradox, controlling the possibilities by changing the past and experimenting with runes, wouldn't that make him self-made in this version as well? After all, the rune that started it all was discovered by him, and the point at which Jayce received the rune so that everything would happen the way he wanted it to was also controlled by him, so basically, even though they don't show it to you, everything that happened was thanks to himself, implying that he had to study and discover everything on his own. Although I guess if they leave everything implicit in the last flashbacks and references, you can take it as something inferior to something more "explicit" like the previous lore. Visually I like the new Viktor "IN THE SERIES", in the game it's a different story, I agree with you on this, it's a downgrade and garbage how Viktor's 3D model looks compared to the previous one, the same thing happened with Jinx's special skin (the expensive one), visually there are infinitely cheaper skins that have much more quality and content. I stopped playing league of legends since they decided to stop developing the lore so I can't really say much about the game but from what I see, it's still stagnant.

i just hoped they followed the legends of runaterra path after s1 since it showed that jayce and viktor still had remainings of that friendship but just as jax visual rework id guess they just dont care about the designs from that game

Based on the conversation Mel and Leblanc had, I thought Mel would be play a much bigger role in defeating Viktor. But that didnt seem to be the case 😅 Infact, you could remove the whole Black Rose storyline entirely and still have practically the same season. It leaves me asking why Leblanc didnt just go after Viktor to begin with? Why risk revealing herself to Ambessa and Mel, when she could have had a much more powerful Arcane-wielder?

Yeah, but you see. I enjoyed the ethereal element to this new Victor. The cosmic domain he was residing in was magical, and a true work of beauty. I call it art. I don't think the old Victors aesthetic matches that theme, or at least the theme the show creators wanted to go for, so that's probably why they didn't go for it. Do you have a right to be angry, sure you can express yourself like that, are you right about why it sucks, well in my opinion, no. Just sound edgy and neck beardy imo, sorry haha.

Another thing that sorta makes this rework kinda weak, and less fun to play, is the roleplaying aspect of it. Sure, okay, Viktor is now a strictly magical being altered by the arcane, who is portrayed as a god-like, powerful being. People can like that fact, or not. Personally, I loved the old Viktor, and I love the new Viktor (kinda wish both would be playable), However, Even I, as someone who really is into this new design, have to admit that it is kinda weak that you're playing a character that reached this final form for... like a day? I dunno, when i play big, powerful, angry, evil monsters, I would like to know that they had at least some influence on the world around them. As is, Viktor really had no influence on almost anyone, he just appeared, made one big bang, and he was gone before you really appreciated how morally corrupt he was.

Arcane ruined viktor. I honestly hated where they went with hexcore because I would much rather have science over just BUUH MAGIC!! Like that's so boring... Magic is boring, give ME ROBOTSSSSSSS. im baffled honestly. Viktor was somewhat interesting when he got released, had a cool lore blurb, but that's all we got. when jayce dropped, his character was assassinated for the first time. i recall the clamoring and arm flailing that came with Viktor becoming a saturday morning cartoon villain so Jayce could be piltover's superman. nobody liked either character. Viktor mains were always a minority, but a respected one, the champion could rarely suffer changed without extreme backlash. idk. played league from s1, have my favorites, champs i don't like, champs i got really invested in the stoey by (mostly through journal of justice, making me love people like Singed and Janna and Blitzcrank and stuff.) i remember viktor release, viktor "minor" lore changed with jayce (who also sucked it should really be stressed,) and the extent to which the cast of Arcane were originally developed in game (spoilers: everyone but Singed and Heimerdinger had absolutely ZERO precedent for their characters other than their in-game lore blurbs.) at least Heimerdinger was eminently featured in the JoJ and Singed was worked into the lore of so, so many other champions that it gave you a real idea of who "Singed" was. but acting like we had some beautiful and unique character narratively and aesthetically, in VIKTOR? like, what?? if anything Arcane saved him AND Jayce from being actual one note beats of "good guy" and "bad guy" i could really give less of a dang what they decided to make viktor look like. there was no precedent for his human form anyways. but the fact that something like him looking more effeminate than people would have liked being a reason they HATE the character, it's just like... whoof. jeez, man. i was just happy we got an actual expansion/reweaving of story tidbits i personally adored as a kid. had no clue Arcane would be picked apart like this, i thought it was a celebration.
