Thanks! I was close to ultra materialists atheists for years. Then I wan't. Many years later, I love to read and was given a dissemination copy of the Quran by a dear Muslim lady friend. I still read it from time to time (washing my hand before touching it). Then read a good part of the Bible, followed by Sumerian texts (the real origin of the Genesis). I studied physics and took up philosophy to fill my curriculum. I am now 62.I leaned a few lessons I'd like to share if you don't mind. * Having values is much better that trying to destroy them. * Having a STRONG disbelief in anything religious, without experience, amounts equally to a strong belief, but opposite to the other guy. *A misguided interpretation in religious narratives caused millions of deaths. A misguided interpretation of Marx and what communism should stand for, caused millions of deaths. Same goes for the "great crusades" and nazi Germany. ITS NOT WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND NOT BELIEVE that really matters. It's neither who you are. It's about the results of your actions. When you improve yourself and others, when you build a lot more than you, by necessity, may need to destroy, then you lead a good life. You'll sleep well. Only antisocials would constantly seek the demise of others for their own selfish gains. We are naturally good people. That's what God wants for us all. That's a demeanor that every atheists and agnostics would dearly appreciate because we all want happiness and better living conditions. Confusing? Then follow the Golden Rules and see for yourself "Do treat others the way you'd like to be treated". And "Don't do to others what you would not want done to you". Run any laws, bylaws, bills, policies or protocols against these rules and your choice will become a lot easier, if you also consider doing the greatest good for the greatest number.
