HOW-TO: Fix a Broken Door Lock Actuator on a 2007 Toyota Yaris
Просмотров 64 тыс.8 лет назад
Some time ago, the door lock actuator on my 2007 Toyota Yaris driver's side door stopped working. When I would press unlock or lock buttons on the keyfob or in the car, the door lock wouldn't work. I've spent the last few years using the key to open my door like a caveman. I just kept putting it off because the actuator is nearly $300 new. I finally decided to fix it myself with some research f...
IN-CAR: Subaru WRX STi on California Route 243

On November 5th, I was invited to Gus-Con: Alpha for a night of board games, junk food, and fresh mountain air in Idyllwild, CA. I took the opportunity to finally flog the STi on a mountain road. This is a small stretch just outside of Banning where Route 243 begins. All I learned is that I'm not good enough to push this car to its limit.
SubieFest 2016, Auto Club Speedway

SubieFest 2016, the largest gathering of Subaru's in the southwest at Auto Club Speedway in sunny Southern California! . STis, WRXs, BR-Zs, Foresters, Legacys, and everything else Subaru. Subaru Technica International even showed up with, not just one, but both the 2016 and 2014 Isle of Mann TT cars, the JDM WRX STi S207, Colin McRae's WRC98 rally car (my favorite), and the ultra-rare 22B.
Thank you for the detailed video.
I have someone caused my sons electric lock fall into the door. Can you please tell me if this will help him? Thank you!
Excelente video!!! me ayudo en un Yaris 2013, iba a comprar el reemplazo, pero hice lo que mencionas y funciona perfectamente, muchas gracias!!!! Great Video, very helpful fixing my yaris 2013, I was going to buy a replacemnet, now is working perfectly, Thanks a lot!!!
So my question, I'm looking for a video my car doesn't make a lock or unlocked noise with my remote is it supposed to?
Gotta say, thank you so much for your experience here. Bought a $10 dollar motor and replaced it with no issues... 😅 I did forget to insert the key piece and the door handle to the actuator, but was able to fix it using your video as guidance. I must have skipped that warning or just kept rewinding. Anyways, thanks so much, Dan.
I just got a 2009 Yaris that doesn't have a fob and the key no longer opens the door! I was just told I can never lock the doors. 😞
Great video, for those of you guys having AFTER MARKET actuators installed, here's my solution: Mine is a 2007 Yaris sedan, it didn't come with power locks, so I have someone installed the aftermarket actuator couple years ago, and I have the same problem came up recently (the keyfob can't lock the door, the door lock/unlock switch seems lack the power to go all the way in to lock the door). So I take off the panel and found the screws that tightens the actuator on the door are loosen, I just have all the screws tightened and put the panel back on and it worked(yeah, easy as that), hope it helps.

THANK YOU for this video! It gave my husband and I the info and confidence we needed to tackle this project on my 2009 Yaris. We had the same issue with the residue on the motor, which solved the problem. We also introduced a new issue by reassembling the pieces incorrectly so thank goodness you showed us how to test for that! We thought we got lucky because our pieces didn’t fall out but it turns out they did get misaligned and a wire spring-type thing underneath all the obvious moving parts had fallen out of place. (If the white lock part that moves above the gear isn’t very clearly clicking in and out of the locked position when you move it up and down, your pieces aren’t in right!) I ended up taking apart and reassembling the actuator half a dozen times but I eventually figured it out and, long story short, the power lock works again! Thanks again. Your video saved us hundreds of dollars in parts and labor fees and helped us take on an interesting project!
Great video! Do you have same video for a 2012 Toyota Yaris?
Very helpful video sir, thank you very much for sharing.
This fault occurred on my wife's yaris the passenger door. It was locked shut so couldn't gain full access. . A quick fix is to remove the armrest trim & screws, this will expose the moulded joints where the 2 parts of trim are connected. Hacksaw blade the first 3 to 4 apart, enough so you can get some leverage to pull enough of the trim back to get access to the door lock motor. Remove the wiring clip from the motor, then strike the motor a couple of times with a spanner. Plug the wiring clip back in & try the central locking. This will eventually work & will allow you to open the door to gain access to remove the screws holding in the lock & motor.
Great video! If you don't open the actuator assembly upside-down (it's upside down in the video, that's why it fell apart) it's not so bad, I recommend trying it before blowing $300 on a new one. Make sure the white electrical connector is facing up when you separate the two halves.

Helped me.appreciated
Very useful video, many thanks! I have a problem with the rear door not locking. So i fiddled with it, and first it locked and I could not open it. Fiddled some more to get it open. Now the latch is in locked position so door won't shut at all. This is draining my battery slowly. Arrghhtt#@$%%#^&! What a piece of crap. Does this technique work for the rear hatchback model too? Its a 2008. I'll have to work upside down since door pops open.
I have the same issue with mine battery keep draining everyday Yaris hatchback 08 struggle
@@nourddine223 I took it to a shop. They discovered it was a loose connection. Pretty easy to open up the back and check it out yourself. Meanwhile, quick fix is... open up the plastic panel and disable the connection cable. Like pulling out a small plug. Now the battery will not drain. You have time to get it checked out. Don't replace it, fix the connection.
@@lass-inangeles7564 Thank you i will definitely try this weekend I appreciate sharing the experience with that issue
I couln't get mine back together
Very professional video
Nice one, thanks,
Just bought a 20mm Flat Shaft motor. It works great ,great price.Hope it helps someone! www.ebay.com/itm/352608938543
You recommended a magnetic tipped screwdriver but you didn’t use one... hmm. But you made a good video and you didn’t wear gloves like they did in the last 3 door lock or window crank removal videos I watched. You get to keep your man card!
wow. very thorough video. now, wanna do one for MY car? LOL.
This video combined with ruclips.net/video/JEIwA6otjME/видео.html just saved me a 240 euro repair. Very much appreciated!!
great
My door lock has jammed locked, with the door closed..... so I can removed all the screws for the door panel, but I can’t get the panel off cause the door is locked shut. Any suggestions?
Hmm. If you can reach the linkages under the inside handle, you might be able to pull the one that unlocks the actuator. One is for the lock, the other is for the door latching mechanism.
Thanks! This video was a life saver. I ordered a new non-oem replacement but they sent me an actuator for an '09 Camry instead of a Yaris. Which worked except the door handle linkage was in a different spot on the actuator so the cable throw was longer. I decided to order a new motor instead of another actuator after that since I couldn't get the motor housing off to clean it. Only part I wished you had in your video was a way to reassemble the actuator since parts fell out as I took it apart to replace the motor as well. LOL. Either way thank you so much. I am now an expert on removing my door thanks to you. Ha ha ha!
Eleazar Garza after watching it too I wished for the rebuilding, cuz mine only a part fell out, but couldn’t figure out how it fit
Cool rims tho!
Thanks. Got 'em from Tire Rack. Focal F05.
Dude, thank you so much! Your video saved my life! I saved like $350 fixing this myself. My case was a little different than yours: the little motor seemed fine, even I couldn’t opened it since it was slightly different from yours (mine is a 2014 sedan), I applied a little lubricant spray all over it and spinned the rotor a hundred of times, then I sprayed a little switch inside the actuator to remove any particles, after that I put it all back together and worked pretty well!
my door latch will slip thru the hole so there is no reason to remove the cables. my yaris is a 2010, could be different on a 2007
Good point. It probably fits but I just didn't try. I figured I wouldn't be able to fish it back through once I was putting the door panel back on so I took it off at the beginning.
Great video but this is why I try to avoid power locks.
Great video, my lock has just packed up so with your help I can have a go myself - thanks.
Thanks and good luck!
Great video! If you do this yourself make sure you pay attention to how the top part of the actuator connects to the bottom. I spent some time troubleshooting the lock/unlock motion because a piece of the top wasn't in the proper plastic guide on the bottom piece.
Thanks! And thanks for the reminder about reassembling the actuator. The arms and levers go together in a specific pattern. It helps to disassemble it slowly to see the pattern. Don't do what I did and let it all spill out. Once it's back together, make sure to test it with the power and a screw driver in the mechanisms. If it's wrong, you can pull it apart before it's back in the door. Don't test it on the striker or the door! If it's not assembled properly, it'll be stuck on there with no way to remove it.
Danable desperation call! I have done the unthinkable and locked my door shut with the actuator not working. Neither the outside nor inside handles have any control. Any ideas?! Please please help!
I’m stuck with the same problem
+1 to this, but it's not too difficult to figure out, just fiddle with the different levers and see what each of them does, eventually you'll see how it goes
