Another good video Derek. Keep it up my friend. God bless you and yours.
You are getting a good set up Dell, Is the Huber working now ?
@@jyst yes but unpredictable
Thanks Derek. Always worth repeating. For those like me who don't have great experience of lathe work, your methods are also v useful.
@@DuncanThompson-v7x Thanks Duncan

YOU HELP ME SET MY CLOCK. THANK YOU
I made a chuck back plate for my Pultra lathe without the taper I cut the 26 TPI thread in my Hercus lathe and faced off the inside at the same time .The back plate screws onto the vertical front face of the spindle This arrangement has been successfull
Thank you for your help
One more question please; Do you think the toothed wheel of the barrel should turn or not? My gear doesn't move at all.
@@TUCBER it does move but very very slowly as the clock should run for 400 days so you wouldn’t see it turn.
Thanks sir. Question is or are: If I send you my clock can you change my mainspring ? I send it to Prahe (CZ) but we can talk together. So I don't know what they do on it. Clock work five days and stop. I put mainstring on maxi. Perhaps mainspring is too old. What you think about. I get this clock from family in Prague (CZ) 1942 ? anniversary clocK Perhap you want see picture? salute. Bernard. France/Grenoble.
@@TUCBER I never change a mainspring unless it is beyond repair just remove clean refit & lubricate with oil not grease, the clock probably want full service if you join NAWCC for free and ask on the 400 day forum there is probably someone in Europe or even France that could help as I am in UK
Merci beaucoup. Thanks a lot. I have questin about mainstring. Regards. Bernard.
@@TUCBER hi what is your question?
Mullein plant is supposed to good for gout. I am sure that you have a health food store there to purchase pills/liquid of it. Love your home made thread holder for the tail stock. Keep up the great work my friend. God bless you and yours.
I have a Kern 400 day clock with a broken anchor pivot. Tried to source one without success and don't want to buy a third clock! Do you offer the service you've brilliantly shown?
@@chalkie2685 if you are on Facebook message me on there
Unfortunately Derek I'm not on Facebook. I am on Gmail and WhatsApp as well as text
@ I have the same but I don’t want to put my contact details on here
That's OK Thanks anyway
@ contact the Horolovar company in USA they will probably have one I buy form them they send all over the world.
Good vid Del , are you making any spare I could do with one.
@@jyst you want a GB one ?
Yes I could do with a GB one if you are doing any extra.
@ just messaged you.
Please work on your videography. Subject center frame.
Thats the trouble with using a small camera , trying to work on it though
I find the 1000 day mainspring much easier to deal with than the typical 400 day.
Really helpful and easy to follow. Thanks
Hi Derek, I have watched all the videos, I will start tomorrow with my Kaiser Universe, I had no idea how the pendulum worked, I didn't know that its weight was inside the base. As always you make a great contribution to all of us who love this profession, in my case I will remain an eternal apprentice. Greetings !
Very clever and skilful.
@@DuncanThompson-v7x Thanks much cheaper than a dedicated one for watchmakers lathe.
Hi Derek, I always watch your videos, all very interesting. I am now repairing a Badische three ball and I have fitted the hairspring as the book says but the clock is still running too fast. It is probably that the book is not very clear on those anniversary clocks from the 1900's ? I have adjusted it but it is still overtaking. Is it caused by a thick hairspring even though the book says so? Should I look for a thinner hairspring? What would be the cause of the advance and how can I solve it ? Thank you very much Derek, your contribution is very valuable !
@@charlypergod157 Hi I would thin the torsion spring you have on there how much is it gaining in 24 hours ? ruclips.net/video/OsbF6AeP-4U/видео.htmlsi=hrFSrQjUNiYYp2gw
@@torsiondell It hasn't been many hours yet, I have cleaned, oiled and put on the new Horolovar hairspring. It has been 4 hours since I put it on and it has gone one hour ahead in only 4 hours. I could try a thinner hairspring but it wouldn't be the one in the book. I have had some similar problems with clocks before 1930, it is difficult to find the hairspring that goes and the length, the book is not very clear there.
@@charlypergod157 then it sounds as though the clock is fluttering ( dropping more than one tooth ) just as a test raise the fork 1/2 to 1mm then test for a few hours fluttering is not consistent so you could try watching the escapement for awhile but best way will be to raise fork.
@@torsiondell Ok thanks Derek, I'll try that and if it doesn't work out I'll go with another thinner hairspring just to try it out.

@ Let us have a picture when you have done it.
@@torsiondell will do, need some warmer conditions first though !
I watched your video on mounting a new pivot into the abour. I have two arbours where the small pivot has broken and come out. Do you know where I can get pivot wire to make a new pivot. By the way, I broke them by taking a short cut and trying the install the anchor by loosening the plate rather than removing it. Stupid mistake! Thanks
@@chalkie2685 blue pivot steel just google it and there should be plenty of places
Thanks Derek - really interesting.
Glad you think so!
Very good job. Love when people think outside the box. Keep up the great work and you will have your 1k subscribers soon. God bless you and yours.
@@munnerlyn3 Thanks Mark
Another great job Derek. You make things look so simple. Quick question that I am pretty sure that I know the answer to but want to ask the expert. Why do you put the angle in the arbor. Is that to ensure end shake? God bless you and yours. May 2025 bring you all the joy, love, and business that you need.
@@munnerlyn3 Thanks Mark yes if you look a most clock arbors then you will see they nearly all taper towards the pivot and it’s as you surmise to lessen the chance of friction due to end shake, it also makes the arbor look better as far as I am concerned.
Thanks Dell. Fascinating.
@@howtorepairpendulumclocks thanks Matthew wishing you & Rachel a happy & prosperous new year
