In 1964, I was driving with my parents cross country. In Nebraska, in a small town, some kids saw our California license plates and followed our car -on their bikes- to the motel. They wanted to know if I was a surfer or if I knew any surfers! I felt like a celebrity. I did know plenty of surfers but I'm afraid I embellished my stories quite shamelessly. Seemed to make the Nebraska kids happy, meeting a real "surfer girl"!
