I'm saying. If Barry took the gym candy it probably wasn't much. Some of the guys who abuse that stuff lose weight after they leave the game and just have the turkey neck and age super poorly. Barry still looks great. His biggest weight gain in one offseason wasn't even that big of a jump. I think the whole steroid thing is just massively overblown. The guy was truly great at baseball and if anything he stopped getting MVPs after he got to a certain point so if anything you can argue it made him worse of a player overall.

When I was growing up there was nothing better than watching Bonds and Griffey swing. They had perfect swings. When they barreled it up the ball would just explode off their bats. My older brother was the biggest Bonds fan. He learned to mimic his swing. He's a righty, but it was fun to watch in games. I was more of a Frank Thomas and Griffey fan myself. I never had that kinda power in games though. I was 13 in 96' and I can still remember how locked in Bonds was from that year till he retired. He was so great bc he had, by far, the best eye in the game. He owned the strike zone so you basically had no chance of him swinging at a bad pitch. If he wasn't swinging at bad pitches you knew he was gonna see at least one good one and at that point it was over. He he wasn't getting intentionally walked so much I truly believe he could've hit .400. I hope the writers come to their senses soon and elect him into the HOF. Him not being in there is freakin criminal at this point.

I watched Bobby Bonds as a kid, met him when he was a Phoenix Giant, I watch Barry at ASU, and was sad he went to Pittsburgh, as that meant we wouldn't see him in the Spring. He learned his swing for the great Willie Mays, his Godfather, and unfortunately he also learned to be aloof with the press, and it cost Willie marginally, but, in the emerging media enviroment it was devestating to Barry's image, it made him look like a some kind of priveledged baseball brat that was too good for the fans, otherwise he would be in the Hall, Balco or no.

You cant understand how good Barry Bonds was: World series; down two, Jeff Kent flies out. Next at-bat, Barry Bonds bombs one right-center. If Barry flied out; right before, the next guy homers...down two...!!!??? No questioned Kent's pitch-selection.
