      Of course, bike wheels have been mass produced for several decades; so check the bike coops, bike shop trash, and the curb on garbage day for cheap or free stuff. However, the focus of my channel is to reuse/recycle/rebuild old damaged wheels into useable ones for free.

  • @makantahi3731
    @makantahi3731 6 дней назад

    16:23 the same thing is with the position of the spokes that transmit the braking force, they should be inside because they are less bent. otherwise, when I make wheels in series, I make 5 front and 5 rear, the average time for assembly is 12-13 minutes without rush plus 15-16 minutes for truing per wheel, about half an hour in total

  • @makantahi3731
    @makantahi3731 6 дней назад

    There are 100 ways to lace a wheel, but only one is the fastest, and it's not the one you're using, firstly, it would be easier if you were sitting and the rim rested on the chair, secondly, the other spoke that you installed to the other side, you shouldn't have put it on the other side already on the same side so that it is parallel to the first spoke, paying attention to the number of crosses, the third wheel is done in quarters, half of the right side, half of the left side, then the second half of the right side, then the second half of the left side, that's why at 9:43 you have a problem with pulling the spokes which would be much smaller if you worked in quarters

  • @makantahi3731
    @makantahi3731 6 дней назад

    5:10 that spoke you are holding in your hand should have been pulled through the other way around, from the inside and not from the outside, because it is the most loaded spoke, apart from the fact that it is on the right side of the wheel and also transmits pedaling power. this way it is more bent and exposed to damage if the chain falls into the spokes

      @@hobbybike51 I'm not confused about how to make a wheel, but you put the spoke in the hub from the wrong side, if you put it on the right side, then the working spokes on the right side would not go from the outside but from the inside, it doesn't matter, you do what you do, you're doing great if you learned everything yourself, and what I'm talking about is an advanced course

      @@hobbybike51 I watched a park tool video where they assemble the wheel and use matches to install the nipples: I was shocked, I asked them why they didn't invent some kind of tool for that purpose when they already invented a bunch of unnecessary tools and a smaller number of useful tools. I even gave them the idea to use a 5 cm long bit for a battery screwdriver-for a flat screw, sand off the sides so that a 3-5 mm long tail remains on which the nipple can be put and inserted into the rim and the initial screwing done. I also use such bits in order to initially screw all the nipples equally on one side, depending on how long the tail is, a shorter tail enables more screwing, a longer one less. this saves a lot of time when the same wheels are made serially, on the first pair I find out what, how much and how, and then it just repeats itself

    does this actually work? I've been wanting to reduce toelap on my fixed gear and I think using a threaded fork is the only way (in my budget), but I have a non-integrated threadless headset and a threadless fork.

    • @hobbybike51
      @hobbybike51 7 дней назад

      It works but only because the old quill stem I cut off is seized into the headtube, acting as a star nut and reinforcing the inner walls of the threaded steerer tube. That said, if you don't care about the threaded fork you'll be using then just glue in a quill stem (like construction adhesive), cut it and try it out.

One thing distinctive about older GT models is the extended seat stay at the seatpost/TT area, which this frame lacks.

    DO NOT POWER WASH or spray water under high pressure to clean. Power washing will force contaminants into parts where they will promote corrosion, immediately damage, or result in accelerated wear. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR TO DRY. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR HARSH CHEMICAL CLEANER/SOLVENTS which can damage the finish or attack and destroy both the outside and internal parts. When rinsing, avoid directing the spray directly at shock/fork adjusters or bearings. genius

    “You could get SCAMMED if you don’t know this is here” no, it’s called knowledge. You pay a bike shop for their tools, time, and talent. Tools such as a torque wrench. Talent such as not clamping on the top tube. Also, your barrel adjuster is SUPER far out. You’ve gotta find a new shop. Our shop only sells parts if you actually need them. It’s very uncommon that we replace derailleurs. Front derailleurs are a pain to work with. At least your tire wear point is somewhat accurate. The two holes are different depths. Once the first hole disappears, it’s a sort of warning. Once both are gone, they need replacing.

    I won’t take advice from ANYONE clamping a carbon frame by the top tube and not using a torque wrench. Thats NOT how to work with carbon. Any bike shop worth its salt should have free estimates or free appointment consultations. This isn’t “bike shop scams” this is basic bike maintenance anyone can learn… Not sure what shop you went too/or worked at but this is not the right tone to have with this. Here is an idea. Price shop menus 45-60 min from your house and chose accordingly.

  • @davidgeorge9233
    @davidgeorge9233 Месяц назад

    You seem to have a really low opinion of bike shops, perhaps you’ve been scammed at some point but I think this is a really unfair way to portray them by suggesting everything is a scam. Many jobs on bikes are quite simple but that doesn’t mean that we should always assume we should do them ourselves because a shop will scam us, at some point even the best home mechanic will more than likely require the services of a good shop. Your point about bolts being undone so far and then done back up the same amount is no excuse for not using a decent torque wrench, it’s just good practice to use the right tools for the job, your way assumes the bolt was at the correct setting to start with which is hugely flawed. Finally what you did with that chain dropping it to the inside of the chainrings onto the paint and turning the cranks….🤦 I’m glad you’re not working on any of my bikes.
