Artists hating on other artists... Aren't we supposed to be a supportive community? Claiming that a certain art style is "ruining" artists is so hateful ngl. We should be supporting each other, not tearing one another down because you don't like how someone draws

What's a jelly art style? I've never heard of it before now. I'm not sure if my art is that or not. I just like my art looking colorful and happy inducing.

I kinda feel like you’re making a mountain out of a molehill with this. Most of the artists adopting this style will evolve it over time. And if they don’t who cares? Not everyone is focused on growth, so many artists in this community are hobbyists and don’t need to improve. I would be more understanding if we were talking about an industry wide adoption of a single art style but it’s not. No offense but this just feels like a non issue.

people can copy other peoples styles completely if thats what theyre genuinely passionate about, for example someone can use vivziepop's art style if it truly resonates with them a ton. but i see a number of beginner artists focus hard on copying the rendering from these "jelly art style" or other more skilled artist's works and it just doesnt help them at all. their art doesnt actually improve bc for one theyre focusing on the wrong thing to work on at the moment, and two theyre literally just following a set of instructions like you would when cooking instant noodles. a lot of the times they havent really absorbed the knowledge and developted skill, its kind of just "im copying this art style so my art must be good now". that said if a beginner artost does think the jelly art style or any for that matter really resonates with them or if they simply like working on the rendering more than they do working on their other art related skills then that is fine! but for the people who are copying an art style just for the sake of a trend or doing so thinking it would make their art better: thats not quite how it works. the idea is there but in practice it doesnt really hold up.

I don’t often like commenting stuff like this on RUclips but personally, the jelly art style did made me find my ways of shading my art. I used to never shade my art because I didn’t know how to shade and refused to learn to shade. until finding out the jelly art style. Tried it on my furry characters (mainly the shading techniques from it) (yes, I know ooo so scary furries!!!!) , it had improved my shading significantly and learning it more through out experiences. So personally, it’s not “inaccurate and won’t improve” type of thing. Because you will definitely improved if you actually tried and not straight up tracing the piece. I don’t mind people having this kind of art style but it can be repetitive which I can understand from this point on. But again, it’s art. People always take inspiration from other artists. And it’s okay for artists to take inspiration from another source that they like.

Personally I don’t agree with the whole “it’s inaccurate and you won’t improve in (insert subject here)” because a lot of artists don’t take art that seriously. But to the people who do take it seriously and are trying to make it their job I don’t recommend practicing stuff that’s inaccurate unless you’re purposefully making art that’s inaccurate for whatever job you’re doing. Also for the love of god if you dislike the art style absolutely do NOT go dumping on it and saying random bs that you don’t like about it. Keep that part to yourself or say something more civil like “personally I do not like the art style” instead of going on a whole rant about what’s wrong with it.

Though you few good points, the rest just feels like a bad take. It feels like you made this video to put down artists who do the jelly art style. People can draw whatever art style they want, especially beginner artists since it's a crucial part of figuring out what they like. This is like the same situation when master artists dogged on the anime art style a few years back when it became mainstream. Let people have fun with art. If a certain art style speaks to them, they should go for it! Don't like it? Just scroll, block, etc. Plus there's a neat feature on tiktok that if you press hold on the video, there's a button that says "not interested". Hope this helps!

If you don't like someone's art, you can just scroll past. Even block them if it really bothers you that fucking much. People need to fucking chill when it comes to disliking some else's art. Just scroll past and move on with your life.

Oh goodness I just remembered something I saw at about age seven. I was at my friend’s house and we were watching music videos on her mom’s ipad, and then this really long advertisement came on. And the content of the advertisement was a story, and it was a sad one, and it depicted some really fucked up reenactments of things that should never be acted out. This was a long time ago so maybe youtube wasn’t as good at moderation but this was just.. wow it was horrible. I remember having flashbang memories of the horrible scenes from it when I was younger and especially since the video was triggering for me it just let in a whole other world of hurting inside for me. Edit: sorry, that was sort of totally out of context to what part of the video this was in response to. But I feel it can kind of apply to the whole video so 🤷‍♀️

I really hate shiny/smudgy artstyles in general 😅

My thing is alot of younger artists or beginners artist have to start somewhere and if looking at an art style they happen to like and learning from it helps them why shouldn't they go for it. As long their not traceing no actually harm is done.

It seems a lot of kids more the less do the jelly art style I tried it I can’t and you don’t learn from it either they always have the same expression no body etc.

A word of warning: sometimes people ask what your artstyle is called because they want to put it in their AI prompts! You should respond by giving them a random combination of words in another language that sounds fancy enough but has nothing to do with what you actually draw

If someone starts asking you what your style is called, half the time you go look at what they do and it's AI image generation and the other half are on a bad path of buying into the idea that art is only a product to consume. Keep telling these people you have no idea what it's called. If they're going to be like that, if they're going to commit to that level of disappointing their mother, then they can take their own two feet down that road without you holding their hand in the process, let them try to find that aesthetic trend name on their own. Operating a search engine and reading feedback on the target pieces with their own two eyes certainly won't hurt them, and it might even help.

OMG we have the same view on artstyle!! An artist I look up to said that some people advised her to change her artstyle when she felt her art isn't good enough. Like- CHANGE HER ARTSTYLE instead of FIXING WHAT'S WRONG WITH HERS. I always see artstyle as THE visual voice, an identity of someone, even I recognized an artist just by their way of drawing the eyes once!! Advising someone to just change the way they're identified with and how they view life through art is just cruel :((

Personally, I agree with most things you said in this video. But it's completely normal for younger/beginner artists to get attached to a certain artstyle. And if they ever want to become professionals in the art field, sure, they will have to drop that attachment but if they're just doing art for fun, why not keep drawing with the style that they love? No hate to you, super nice video <3

As someone with a very kinda simple cartoony style ill admit my style used to be almost an exact copy of the older Scandinavia and the World comics before i well started improving and now my characters have limbs and multiple expressions and necks(yes the original comics were like heads and little noodles for arms and a torso) but i recently did a redraw of some older art of mine and im glad to have improved and made my own style, and i hope that these jelly people youre talking about get that kind of joy

I don’t see art as serious, I’m just here to have fun guys- if something looks good/cool I’m going to put it in my art I guess 🤷‍♀️ the jerky art style is just pleasing to me so why not reference it? I’m not going to do anything with it- I just use inspiration from other artists(especially puririka for the face) but I have done full body stuff as other expressions 🫤 I’m not limiting myself?? I’m just doing what looks cool
