The Future of Work is a Results Only Work Environment
I don't hate my job but I'm so bad at it. I do the training but I'm not getting it. Can't fix stupid. The reason why I can't quit is because I don't have childcare. 😢
I am sorry to hear that :( Training and potentially a mentor or definitely all we can do when struggling with something at work.
I’m in job jail while running a weekend business. Afraid to take that leap into f/t entrepreneurship.
I can really understand this. I was there myself. For me, I mitigated the risk of the transition to entrepreneurship by slowly cutting my day job hours over time. Good luck! I know how hard this can be, especially when you really believe in your business!
For the last 5 fun filled years
I am sorry to hear this :(
I work with dangerous chemicals and they make me very sick I cannot stand being at my job
Job jail💔
:(
I need to break out of job jail.
Good luck :(
I’ve been w a med size private company since its inception 26 years. I was #2 under owner for 20 yrs. A new owner has come on board and been her direct for 5 yrs. She has suddenly hired an outside CFO, and he has hired someone in order to split my role, all without consulting me. I am HR btw. So now she wants me to move all my accnt duties (and my reports) to new employee. But I feel she is pushing me out, and my reports have been extremely upset. I will ask for a new job description? And confirm benefits. I’d like to just ask for severance, but maybe it will be more clear w clear definitions. Thank you.
sorry you are going through this. all the best with the new role description and working through this transition.
My boss pulled me in the office and told me that I had a choice of stepping into an older role I was in or be separated. He listed all these wonderful reasons why I should do it..( wonderful in his eyes ) . I took the demotion only because I cant not have a job. I am really upset thought. Been with the company for over 20 years worked my butt off to get where I wanted. it really really hurts.
I am sorry you are going through this. I can understand how this hurts.
Currently going through this and needed to see this video
Sorry you are going through this :(
You have to remind yourself it’s temporary. Then take it one day at a time. Resume. Make Indeed/Job sites a hobby. Go over descriptions/pay/benefits. Just apply. Schedule interviews before your shift, during lunch, or schedule multiple on a day that you’ll call off on. You’re qualified, by reading job descriptions you’ll see you’re qualified for roles based on transferable skills, or those duties that your current/prior job added on over time..
Great advice :)
Excellent discuss with a professional touch. Thanks Shauna for your contributions to the body of knowledge.
You're welcome and thank you for the feedback!
Here. Dads black. Mom was a beautiful pale freckle faced red head I like the word ambiguous lol good way to put it.
yes, I totally get it ;)
Sunday evening is the worst… But Friday afternoons are the best. It’s this weird love/hate thing I have with the week. Corporate America is absurd, bureaucratic, and rife with inter office politics… But man those paychecks are great. I just play the game and find solace throughout the day in the little things. I’m like Sisyphus and the bolder… 18 more years to go!
There are definitely some big pros and big cons when it comes to working in corporate ;)
Job jail is a very good description
Thank you and hope you found the video helpful ;)
My commute swallows the rest of the time I have left. Cant afford to live anywhere near jobs jn my field. Too old for this. Going to drop.
Sorry to hear this :(
An interesting talk. Only pity that the sound quality of the guest speaker is so bad.
Glad to hear you found the talk interesting :)
I'm in job jail😢
sorry to hear this :(
Virtual job fair financialfreedom2305.blogspot.com/2024/02/virtual-job-fair-navigating-future-of.html
I won't accept it I was promoted then now they are trying to push me back
Sorry to hear you are going through that.
Good idea about volunteering. I actually once offered to work somewhere as an unpaid intern. it gave me excellent experience.
That's great news, that volunteering was valuable to you!!
Perfect video. You got straight to the point. With practical tips.
Thank you :)
"Do a good job"--honestly the hardest thing😢 I do a good job, i excel, but that just increases the workload. I try to handle the increased workload, and prioritize--but when i try to set boundaries, they say you're a bad worker--their expectations are utterly unreasonable. No one should be expected to work 7 days a week 12/hr days. It feels like throwing energy into this black hole of need that will never be filled. Thank you for identifying the 'job jail' --i've been taking notes from your video and am going to use them to make my jail break💗
I can relate. It can be so difficult to navigate a challenging situation like this. It can seem like there is no way out. I wish you all the best in figuring out how to leave!
I hate my job but i can quit in two months time
At least you know the end is near!
Felt like that a view times, job gail
Thanks for sharing your experience. That can be so tough :(
Awesome! This is an educating, insightful and a good resource. Many thanks for the video. Thank you again for making positive impact to many professionals and careers.
Thanks for the feedback and happy you have found this helpful!
Can I just win the lotto so I don’t have to work??? I don’t even need to win the big one. I just need to win a big enough one, lol.
LOL! That would definitely be ideal :)
Micromanagers will kill you mentally faster than anything. I really like my job after all these years. The people are great, but the supervisor (who is not needed and needs to retire) rides us most days and makes up stupid rules. He's also getting crazy in the head.
Agree. A good manager can make all the difference. Micromanagers can be especially tough to cope with.
Great video ❤
Thank you!
Thanks so for the Information. What can we do about our email-id? should we create a new email id with new name then start applying?
Changing the email id can help to mitigate this bias. You should always do what feels right for you.
I got the dream job, but the responsibilities are changing and I don’t like the new responsibilities.
That can be so tough. I am sorry you are going through that :( Sometimes our roles can change into something we weren't expecting...
Just quit. Companies will use this to exploit you. Then you’ll get complacent, and before you know it you been 2+ years overworked and underpaid.
This can definitely be true in some cases :(
Thank God I'm not alone hating my IT job. It pays the bills but my mental health is suffering, too stressful and too much expectations! I plan to quit in a couple of months and hope I can find another one within 12 months, though the economy in Australia is really, really bad and jobs are scarce! Lots of fake jobs out there, they look for a junior role but expects senior level skills it's ridiculous!
Good luck! I think the problem you describe around the experience piece is really relevant and a challenge that many job seekers face.
I am in a difficult position as I work for a relative. I used to enjoy it, but I am underpaid and I've recently been given a lot of duties that I don't like. It is difficult to leave as this relative relies on me being there and would really struggle without me, especially as quite a few people have retired recently and I am more or less the only one left to train new staff. If I was working for someone else I wouldn't care as it is not my fault that she allowed there to be a significant key person risk, but as it is a relative I am forced to consider this. This is different to a lot of people as I am not reliant on the income and there are skill shortages in my field so I should be able to find another job pretty easily, but I am stuck there nonetheless.
This sounds complicated and like you are in a really tough spot. Sometimes we have to prioritize our own mental health and happiness.
I don't hate my job just a certain person managers stick me with. I've voice his harassment towards me verbally and by email, and I'm a slightly younger man. I'm the one who has to listen to him complain for 40 hours, and so when I say he is upsetting me I get called the complainer. Management will not relocate me or promote the other guy. This guy is like the managers and lead and HR "SPECIAL" little brother.... but rag on me when the assembly line backs up. I tell lead ti tell his buddy he needs to tell him to hurry up but just glares at me for saying something....
Sounds really tough :( Sorry to hear you are going through this.
Great advice. Thank you!!
Sure thing :) All the best!
Too Good 💎 Could you suggest which type of traits will make an engineer employee highly valuable or unique that attracts more money in career ? Which books would help in this scenario..
Thanks so much for your feedback and I am glad you found this video useful! You might start with Atomic Habits. It's a wonderful kickoff providing great tactics to work towards your goals.
So happy I came across this video! I’m deciding to take a demotion for the sake of my mental health and my family. I love my current role however the environment I’m in is toxic and it’s causing me anxiety and burnout ! I just applied for a position that will be considered demotion but it’s a role I’ll truly enjoyed. Thank you for taking time to create this videos 😊
Thank you for sharing your experience and this encouragement. So happy to hear you have prioritized yourself and wishing you all the best with the application. Happiness is the most important :)
I took a demotion it’s not always a tragedy. TBH other people are causing more problems than me. For example the person who took my job lacks some skills so people keep coming to me and it feels like a battle
A demotion can definitely be a good thing!
Looking for good relationships at work is what got me to hating my job I would not advise that.
I think it's worth a try, though it might not always work...
I hate my job because I am being bullied by my supervisor. I don’t know what to do. It is now effecting my health😢😢😢😢
I am sorry to hear this. Might be time to look for something new?
Send you lots of hugs! I was bullied by my ex manager, yelling at me in front of my coworker and customers, be littled me, it was "ok" for me to stay until she didn't give me my PTO day that I requested 4 months ahead, that was my daughter piano recital day. I find a job within 2 days after she refused my PTO day. My family always comes first.
Quit I was getting bullied by mines everything I did wasn’t right in her eyes so I quit last Wednesday she was terrible and bias.
For me it is to get away from the ppl who make the job miserable an try an transfer if at all possible to a area u know ul like an can be useful!~ I have seen what happens when ppl who hate the job go off, not a pretty site!~
The people at work can definitely make all the difference :)
@@ShaunalCole Like today at work, the kid put items in the wrong area, claiming there is no room in the right section for them, and there was enough room for it all to go in!~ An then my boss tells me to use the company version of common sense, which is don't worry about it, and I am a person who was taught to do the job right the 1st time!~
My manager gave a promotion not long ago all of the sudden they are putting me back where I was years ago 17 years working at my retail store
Thanks for sharing your experience and I am sorry this has happened to you.
I don’t think there’s anyone who actually likes their job. If they do, they’re lying to themselves. No matter what your job is, a software engineer, graphic designer, surgeon, teacher, or even a VP, you will always be miserable if you work under someone and someone else’s rules. The only way to happiness is self-employment. The concept of a “job” itself is a jail. Being having a job, you agree that you will be stripped off of your humanity and become this mindless, soulless, replaceable drone who will do anything for the higher-ups. Your fate is sealed the second you get hired, as that is the only thing you’ll do for the rest of your life. In this world, it’s either exploit or be exploited. I don’t think I will ever be happy until I can finally become a full-time content creator on RUclips, because it’s the only way I can make money doing what I love without being someone else’s property.
Good luck with your content creation journey. Everyone is so different and unique. I am sure there are some people who find happiness in employment 😀
@@ShaunalColeThanks for replying. But I don't think there's objectively any way for anyone to find employment enjoyable. I don't think anyone likes being a slave. It's either delusion or masochism.
7:31 its so hard to find to find the motivation to do a good job. Trying to dig deep and remind myself of goals
Good luck. This is definitely challenging but can be worth it in the long run.
I was basically pushed into taking a promotion. I already turned it down previously due to concerns the role would just stress me out. The added responsibility came with an extra £100 a month. Despite my reluctance I voiced some time after turning the role down that in future perhaps I would be in a better place. Well my employer took that as a definate yes and threw he straight into the training. I was miserably anxious through the whole thing. Despite them saying it is ultimately my choice the culture there is very pushy to take on more. I had some adjustments and took the job but for the past 8 months I have hated being at work. I can indeed do a lot of the work at a high quality but I am just always on edge and irritable. Today I took the option for a demotion. I dont know what the full consequences of this will be yet apart from lower pay; I just felt 8 months with no improvement and hating my work life was an indication things are not working. We will just have to see how it will effect my environment at work now. As far as I am aware I'm the only employee who has willingly stepped down from a higher position.
Thanks for sharing your experience. This sounds very challenging and I wish you all the best in getting through this!
Okay people, I would kindly like to ask if you have articles or authors who talk about imposter syndrome and specifically about the mixed experience of not being seen as white and not being seen as black or not being seen as nothing overall 😂 I would love to read, Im 23 and still very confused about this
This is definitely really hard to navigate! I wrote a magazine article you might like: maritimeedit.com/blogs/edit-features/shauna-cole-for-edit-magazine-volume-15
@@ShaunalCole thank you so much!
I’m in job jail
Sorry to hear this :(
Does anyone else has daydreams about poisoning the coffe machine in the office?
That's called a career limiting move 🤣
Totally me. I loved my job. Then a glass roof landed on me. Now I am in jail.
I am sorry to hear that :(
Id rather die than work a job i hate
:(
