    Hi, I have 2core are same model and done same config. so, I can do stack for these switches only in ring topology? the third switch is different model and act as a edge switch also config is not like core switches. so, I have to add this third one also? how to give the priority? what is the purpose of split? so above u said all the process we have to do in stack mode of the switch. Kindly reply to ASAP.

  • @hibillhotmailcom
    @hibillhotmailcom 3 года назад

    mate, thanks for this. BUT: I think you should make it clear before you start typing the renumber command to NOT hit return before connecting the two switches on the vsf links.

      I bricked a 6300F into recovery mode, I think it was due to the firmware images being very different though. Should have checked that first I guess

    what is the difference between vsf and vsx?

    • @optec414
      @optec414 3 года назад

      VSF works with shared (unified) control, routing and switching planes approach across the two chassis, while VSX works with a separated but synched planes where both chassis are active at the same time.

    Great video thanks . Do you have to use the 50G DAC for stacking or could you use 10G DAC's ?

    • @optec414
      @optec414 3 года назад

      Based on Aruba’s official documentation, you can use 10G DACs without an issue, as long as they’re the same speed all around: All VSF link ports in a stack must operate at the same speed (10G, 25G, or 50G). However, VSF links do not all need to use the same number of ports; for example, the VSF link between members 1 and 2 may use two SFP ports on each member while the link between members 2 and 3 uses only one SFP port per member. Using less than two ports for specific VSF links may be desirable on members where SFP ports are also being used for stack uplinks. The only limitation this imposes on a stack is reduced VSF link bandwidth between those members using links with only one port assigned per member.

  • @leebailey001
    @leebailey001 3 года назад

    Great video thank you. I noticed that you renumber the additional members after you connected them to the VSF. What would happen if you executed the renumber command prior to connection? I'm coming from Comware where I'm used to renumbering a member before connecting it to a master.

    • @leebailey001
      @leebailey001 3 года назад

      Also, does each member have to be on the same firmware version before joining the VSF or does it sync with the master?

    • @optec414
      @optec414 3 года назад

      Hi, apologies for the late response. With the earlier firmware it would get confused and you would need to vsf-factory-reset the switch to reconfigure it into the stack again. However this has now been fixed with newer firmware so you should be able to do it either way (to be on the safe side I would always recommend connecting them first). In regards to your second question, If a new stack member is running a software version different from that on the VSF-Master, during the boot process it will automatically download the primary and secondary software images from the VSF-Master and reboot a second time. If you have any further questions please reach out. Thanks, Adam

    There are two other options to enable stacking ( push button and CX App)

    • @optec414
      @optec414 3 года назад

      Correct! I've always preferred the method shown in the video so would always recommend it that way. How did you find the stacking via the CX app out of curiosity? I've found it hit and miss with connectivity.
