Almost the same set-up then mine. I go 24/3.8, 50/1.4 and 90/2.5.

My predicament also. Bought a M10 mono on the pretext of selling either a Rolleiflex TLR or Hasselblad V series. Love them all though!

Can't you render the same shot as the 90 from your 50 given the resolution of the R? I find both the 75 and the 90 result in easily missed focus given their very narrow DOF. Regardless - nice selection of lenses - I love my 28 Elmarit - especially paired with either the 35 or 50 lux.

I dislike the M11. I think it’s objectively a worse M camera. The shutter sounds and feel. The constant open shutter. Worse colour. “Better auto exposure”. There are better cameras from Nikon or Sony or Canon should you want an auto camera. To me the M10 is peak digital M so far and I hope Leica step back from the feature laden M11. Just like the stepped back from the button and function polluted M240.

The idea of having some small lenses is a good one, the selection of the focal lengths makes complete sense to cover > 95% of the situations during travel unless you're on a safari. Funny to see, what "budget" means in the Leica world. I have some older Leica-R lenses which are really affordable, Leica M never was.

Yes, Leica is expensive and a luxury for many, no reason someone should not be able to have one. Anywhere and get the shot? Safari ride in Serengeti National Park trying to capture a running cheetah or just about any sporting event? 🤪🤪 I love mine but it’s one of many cameras, each suited for what the situation requires. Funny how we all bend logic like a pretzel trying to justify the price 😂

Yep. I have the M10M which was a game-changing camera for me and, although I bought the M11M, I'm keeping both. Anyway, you need a back-up M body if you ever have to lose the camera for a while to have the rangefinder recalibrated. I couldn't bear to part with my M8 either

That 90mm lens is my favorite lens. Frankly I’m all about the 21 mm and 90 mm, the 50 doesn’t get used much on the road. And btw, use black tape to get rid of that red logo and use a beater bag not a camera bag and nobody will look twice at your setup.

I don't about affordable, but yes they are great.

I think the Leica Q343 is a perfect travel camera and even simpler than a M11 with 35 Summilux.

The battery doesn't really last the day other than that great gear

M11-P is the first leica I've purchased in silver. I love the extra weight of the brass vs the black aluminum. It's so hard to sell older cameras in order to finance new ones.

love it. always love seeing what lenses best suit people and why! ive gone for a 28, 35, 50 summicron. with the 50 only really being used for portraits with the 28mm being used for story telling. that extra DOF at f2 helps with portraits sometimes. those situations where im only carrying one lens, it is always the 35mm summincron, this is my default focal length for everyday. ive been playing with a 90mm f2.8. I just cant make it work for me.

Just got back from a trip to Ireland, brought a 21-3.5, 35-1.4 and 90-2.8, my close focus 35 pretty much lived on the camera about 95% of the time the 21 was nice for Architecture but my next trip I might just bring the 35. One feature with the M1 that I enjoy and use a bit is the crop mode. I have my top function button set to crop so if I’m running a 35 I can do a 1.3 or 1.8 crop and essentially have three lenses with me.

Do you think I could get away with only the M11+35 APO Summicron shooting in Barcelona? I would love to travel so light. My priority is a light kit. I don’t think I need the low light of the Summilux, since the M11 can compensate. I can crop in-camera down to 50. But I’m afraid of missing some wide shots. My other option is 28 Elmarit+50 APO Summicron. Would you go with 35, or 28-50, for a trip to Barcelona?

Totally agree, I have a M10 R Black Paint and M11 M. I would never give up my M10 R for any future model. Fantastic camera with a retro feel that is slightly lost in the M11 in my opinion.

3:38 Every Elmarit Asph 28 is coded. Top tip for 50mm is the Summarit 50 f2.5, best bokeh of all non-Summilux Leica lenses, because it is non-aspherical. Just as sharp if not sharper than the Summicron 50. Hidden gem in the lineup.

I had the same experience. I took the M11P and the 35APO to Rio last year. It forced me to see the world at 35mm. I’ve been on landscape trips with a full kit - SL body and four lenses, but the trip with one camera one body, I came home with more keepers and photos that I printed than any other trip. Great video!

What exact lens model is your 35 mm f1.4 lens do you have?

That’s a great selection of lenses for travel at superb prices! I picked up a (ridiculous) number of M lenses from Josh at Leica Store Miami over the past two years. They include several you mentioned (Elmarit 28 mm and Summicron 90 in Silverchrome). These render differently than my Summilux 28 and APO-Summicron 90 and I love them. If you ever have a need to do close-up work, the newer versions of the Summilux 35, APO-Summicron 35, and Summilux 50 are a delight to use. At subject distances < 0.7 m, they’ll require using the rear LCD screen or an EVF. I’ve also had good luck with the Macro-Elmar 90 collapsible + the Macro Adapter M.

I wish I’d kept my M10-R. The colours are much nicer than the M11 series.

I had the M11-P and returned it, because the copy I got had an extreme pinkish colour tint. Resulting in hard blues and snow literally gets pink. Trying to remove it in post was impossible, because the corrections had to be done shifted the image into green. Does someone know if that was a bad sensor batch or so? Appreciate any reply!

M11 Monochrom shooter here. I wait for the M12-P hopefully coming with in body image stabilisation 😊

Good on you going with Leica glass for your Leica camera, that's the way to go. This said a 35mm is all you need for travel, it makes no sense to go on a trip with more than one lens. I only take multiple lenses for editorial assignments. Holidays and travels, just one lens is needed.

M10-R is sweet

I was lmao for the first few seconds. I just did exactly that. I bought m11-p justifying i was going to sell my m10. Immediately after i purchased, you know the rest.

I use the same focal lengths, but with different lenses. I changed summicron V5 to summilux ASPH because I’m also 50mm guy and use it nearly always so decided to spent a little more for that one extra stop of light. And I never liked the bokeh summicron made. For 28mm, I also have elmarit. Actually 2, the pre-ASPH v4 and my latest purchase, Elmarit-M ASPH. They both have unique place in my heart but for different reasons. For 90mm, I first started with Tele-Elmarit-M (thin), which I never liked. Sure it was small and light for travel, but for some reason it never felt right. I changed it to newer Elmarit-M which is totally different beast in IQ. That I would only change for APO Summicron.

I think the Leica q3 is a much better value.

It was in Havana on the second day that my Leica gave up. Not the place to find a Leica Shop. Not that it would have mattered. If I sent one of my Leicas for repair, it was always a lottery. The camera could be repaired for free or at a reasonable price, the camera could be repaired at an enormous cost, the camera could not be repaired. Whatever the outcome, it took a very long time. No more Leicas with electronics in them for me. I just have my mechanical MP. A beauty. And I don’t have to rely on a functioning light meter. I felt cheated that I paid so much money for junk electronics.
