Punch Brothers plus fiddle phenom Brittany Haas play this gorgeous tune by Våsen at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons Colorado on September 16, 2021
I have always loved this tune; it's a standard, done in so many excellent versions (which is the test of a good song: does it still sound good with different arrangements?), including, as particularly relevant here, Pat Martino's take on "Live!" These guys, masters all, clearly took inspiration from that version. I have to work on getting it down on tenor and plectrum. This is inspiring.
Wow!!!
Noam's face when Sierra takes her break is the best! i want Noam and Sierra to go on tour together!!
Stunning
Happy to see Stargel in the lineup!
One of the best mandolin breaks I've ever heard
Needs about 17 more banjos on stage. Not sure what a mandolin is.
They banjo'd the heck out of me.
Oh I love this so much. What a potent sound. Do you have more footage of this gig?
Casey Driessen, master of the fiddle "chop"! 🎻
My God. Fleck is so good.
What was your first clue?
Thanks for posting this! US Shakti tour is almost over
2old FLATHEADS ON. STAGE!!!
And the best part of the whole thing is watching ALL of the faces during this. They ALL appear to be having way too much fun!!!
Thank you Thank you Thank you for this... Tonight was Gabe's last night with the PB's Nightgrass at Telluride and is handing the baton to Brittney ~ Wow, I needed this tonight, thank you Mr. Schepps.
been working on this on guitar for about a month really love your guys itteration
Really looking forward to seeing Nickel Creek next Wednesday on the first day of summer😎
Newgrass wow!
Some really excellent musicians gathered to play here. I call this newgrass jazz.
Just cause you can play it on banjo doesn’t mean you should. This throws away everything that makes a banjo a banjo.
In your opinion (aside from genre), what makes a banjo a banjo?
From a different perspective -- only a banjo can make those sounds, therefore, nothing can take away its essential character. it's a big world, and that instrument and its kin have made all possible sounds and styles.
Please elaborate on your comment? One of the things I love about bela is how he brought the banjo out of blue grass(which I love) and into so many other genres. First time long ago, when I heard him play Bach, it was a revelation. Every instrument needs someone to take it out of itself, and explore all of its possibilities.
