Elin - Returns To Steam!
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
Welcome to this special update on the first steaming of Hunslet 705 "Elin" at the Richmond Light Railway. For the first time in well over 20 years Elin moves again under her own steam. There are plenty of finishing touches still to complete before the restoration is fully complete but we could not wait to share the good news.

Welcome to our latest news update video, this time a special on the final phases of the restoration of Hunslet 705 "Elin". Not steamed in well over 20 years this 2-foot gauge engine was built for, and spent her entire working career, at the Penryhn slate quarry in North Wales. Elin has an unusual appearance compared to the other similar quarry Hunslets built and used in the Dinowic, Penrhyn, an...

Great video 🛠🚂👍👌
This is quite a wonderful little railway. I like how RUclips is very much its exclusive online hub, if you get what I mean! The presentation is beautiful and the collection has a small but lovely variety of backgrounds. That you have two Quarry Hunslets of both Penrhyn and Dinorwic patterns with engines of French and German-design origin is quite a treat for your volunteers. Regards, Samuel Farris.
Thank you so much for the update.
Our pleasure!
Great update. Certainly amasing quite the collection. Going to have to do a couple more open days to show them all off. Hint hint hahaha
Nice video! Nice to see Jenny in steam.
Thank you very much!
That brought back memories of working on Sybil in Pant workshop many moons ago. I remember Tony Hills telling me the story of when he purchased the loco for £60 back in the sixties. It was a lovely little loco to drive too. After it's rebuild the bmr would run it on a siding outside Pontsticill station house. I would park the Baldwin, nip across & have a go of driving Sybil. Happy Memories.
Thanks for the memory, if they were still £60 we would all have one!
It is amazing that these little locomotives that were designed to shunt wagons in slate quarries can pull passenger trains smoothly and "at speed" over significant distances.
A testament to the designers and engineers who originally built her!
can I just say I'm glad 827 Sybil is being ran and looked after by a railway who didn't shut her up in a shed. But to be truthful, I was saddened to see her leave my hometown for good. Glad to ser her running though
She was well looked after by her former owners but we are very glad to have her at the RLR and we look forward to the next 10 years of steaming!
@@RichmondLightRailway i'm glad to see it running mind
We are not told what the new sleepers are made from.
Plastic!
Thank you for the update, good progress on all fronts this year, and thank you for including the footage from North Wales, I follow their 'Moving Pictures' series here on YT and thought I recognised some loco parts!
Thank you! We had a great time in North Wales and were made very welcome.
Love the progress on Pixie 😁 as well as all the work at RLR 👍 looking forward to seeing the next installment 👍 well done everyone
Thanks Greg, always plenty going on at the RLR!
Very interesting and well filmed video, thank you. What type of sleepers are the new ones?
Thank you for the kind feedback! Plastic!
@@RichmondLightRailway Thank you. The colour helps them blend in very well. Do the dimples on their sides have any function?
I believe it is to provide extra friction/grip for the ballast.
Superb, a testament to the fine work done during the rebuild.
Thank You!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Incredible piece of a locomotive! It comes with a great pleasure and an honour to be able to see this magnificence in motion.
Thank you very much!
Remember that the number of views you get does not matter. What matters is the fact that your videos are able to fill some people with such a childish joy I forgot I had. Thank you very much
Thank you!
She's a beaut. Great job!!
Thank You!
Fantastic 😃😃😃 well done to all of you at RLR....... Can't wait to see her at the open day 😁😁 again well done 👍👍
Thank you! There are plenty of finishing off jobs to do but already looking great!
Superlative attention to detail 👌
Thank You!
Can’t wait to see Elin finally running. Also that final photo of Chuquitanta is brilliant!
Not long now!
How many Hunslets do you have?
I didn't realise Hunslet's had saddle tanks interesting.
Lots of them!
Quite common for this design of Hunslet 👍
All your locos are immaculate but this is going to look great. Can I ask how are the safety valves set is it a case of pressuring the boiler and just adjusting until the valves open
It depends on the design but yes!
Nice to see a new member to the RLR steam fleet. Let’s hope we’ll get to see Elin and Sybil running together with some ex Penrhyn and Dinorwic stock
That is definitely something to look forward to this year!
Just seeing this in my recommendations, absolutely loving it😁one day ill buy myself one as well,, well the Mamod Brunell version that is,,,
Glad you enjoyed!
The Chuquitanta has the most wonderful stack sound.
Thanks, it does sound lovely!
What a delightful railway!!
Thank you!
These tiny railway are all way so charming
Thank you!
👍
Glad you enjoyed!
This well reminds me of the Skarloey Railway. Sybil reminds me a lot of Rheneas
We are all fans of Rev W Awrdy's books!
Great video, lovely to see another Light Railway with soo much progress. Hope to visit in the new year!
Thanks Mike, keep an eye on the facebook page for updates next year on open day and tickets.
Excellent and informative but let down by the fact that the narration and the pictures do not really line up!!
Hi Keith, Thanks for the feedback, which bit of narration didnt seem to line up?
@@RichmondLightRailway - well that is just mental. I promise when I watched the commentary was way out - virtually every piece of description bore no relation to what was on the screen. Today it is perfect!! I have heard of RUclips doing this but never seen it myself. It is now brilliant and presumably always was!!
Fantastic update 👍 I'm looking forward to coming down on the 14th August for your open day 😁😁 would love to see a video dedicated to the restoration and running of Chuquitanta 👍👍
Thanks Greg, hope you enjoyed the open day back in the Summer
Excellent update im looking forward to finally getting to you on 14th. With the tickets do they need to be printed or is the QR code on my phone ok
Either should be OK, look forward to seeing you then.
Excellent videos, well put together. Thank you for posting them
Thanks Mark, hope you are well? Dave Town
Great video - see you in August.
Look forward to seeing you then!
Is Pixie the former cadeby light railway pixie?

Thanks Leo, we cant wait to get some of our slate wagons behind it!
Absolutely terrific, more fun than enough...........
Thanks Alan, its a nice way to pass the afternoon!
