    There are many recordings of this wonderful trio by Haydn, but I really like the lyricism and energy of this trio of young musicians, each of whom is a credit to their instrument and who play really well together. I cannot see a date for this performance -- can anyone supply that? Bravissimo!!

    A lovely piece in a lovely setting. It amazes me that Haydn expected his flautist to tackle this on what was basically a hollow stick with a few holes drilled into it and a couple of brass keys. The use of a bloody great Steinway is more dubious, still lid is half closed and if it was what was provided it's understandable.

    These trios of Haydn are very beautiful. They are still poorly known. The piano is the main instrument, but the flute has a nice part to play. The cello doubles most often the bass part of the pianoforte.

    • @elaineblackhurst1509
      @elaineblackhurst1509 6 лет назад

      You are absolutely correct of course but it may be worth mentioning that the reason for the cello largely doubling the bass was entirely pragmatic as the early fortepianos Haydn knew in Vienna had relatively weak bass notes, hence the need for reinforcement to balance the treble instrument. In London, Haydn encountered much bigger instruments built by piano makers such as Broadwood and together with an entirely new piano technique being developed by Clementi amongst others, his own piano writing developed astonishingly as is evident in the later trios and last few sonatas, often written for professional musicians such as Teresa Janson, herself a Clementi pupil.

  • @gerardbegni2806

    Compared to other trios of Haydn, in which the treble part adds only expression to the "right hand" of the pianoforte, we have here an actual dialog between the two trble parts. This is magnificent. It is based upon the firm bass part consolidared by the cello.
