there's a nice simple sanity check for the second one. x^4+3x^2-4 = (x^2 +4)(x^2 -1) which means that x^2 = -4, +1, so x = 2i, -2i, 1, -1 the fact that synthetic division yields the exact same results thus confirms that everything went well.

Why do you divided the function with the condition? If the condition is true the value is +1 and if false the value is 0? And when the calculator try to divide the function by zero, the function is not evaluated at that X, therefore far faster than you multiply with the function with condition? I am guessing only, but I think this is the behind - I will try it. Thanks for your videos, really like how you show graphs on your calculator, I do not found anybody who do it in this "natural way". This videos are made in a classroom and recorded via overhead projector?
