This Knitty Life - December Diaries Day 10
I’m love catching up with you, appreciate you giving up your time to record and edit. Do hope you start feeling better soon, take all the time your head needs you will get there take care Frances x
Another fab podcast, I love seeing how you put colours together. I haven't tried colourwork yet, but you are definitely inspiring me! I loves the vlogmas at the end too, and would love to see more if you do film more 😊
I agree, I'd ask the kids what they voted for as the activity to spend any extra family $ on. I always appreciated those trips as a child because I always knew they were the ones we worked for together ya know, by understanding when told the 1st time, and feeling bad for our parents, if you know you know.
I love your tolsta thoughts. Great ideas 💙
I had to rewind because I thought you said you didn't like the mucky scenes, but no, you said "monkey scenes". 😂😂 I thought it wasn't that sort of film.
😆😆😆
I always love your videos 😊 I’m interested in what electric winder it is that you have? I really fancy one, yours looks fab. I have the same advents as you this year! Not quite sure what to do with them. Thinking microstripes on a black top for dye candy, the colours are nice and vibrant. Last year I did a striped meebles tee by Kate Oates with the spectrum and a background light grey/pink/blue very lightly variegated skein, I love that. Xx
Thanks so much for sharing your projects❤. Love your colours and projects x happy knitting x x
Ah thanks, thank you for watching x
Love your Winter doodle. I bought that book after seeing your last podcast!
Ah really? It’s a bargain! Really good book.
I purchased the Spectrum Fibres 12 day advent too and love it! Have you any plans for it yet? I have not! I also purchased a Christmas colourway from Fab Funky Fibres but in the Cosy Christmas colourway, which I am loving. I think I will knit a heel flap and gusset because it fits me better. Re the Yarn Badger Christmas stripe a day yarn 2024, I purchased it and knit until the foot but then frogged them, as I just did not like how they were knitting up! Not stripy at all!
I debated a Dotted Rays shawl but I don’t know now. Glad you are enjoying FFF, my go to for self striping! Shame you weren’t a fan of the yarn badger.
Love watching your videos 🎉
Yay! Thank you!
Love all your projects! I love how you put colour together and it makes me want to cast on ALL the things! It was nice to have a podcast at this time of year. I also tried to copy your dungarees 😂
I love seeing all your projects. Everytime i watch you it makes me want to have a proper go at colourwork. Your hat with the snowmen is beautiful. 😊
Some absolutely beautiful knits here, i just love seeing what your working on😊
Aww thank you so much. Always working on a million things lol.
Ive got dye candy and think the same as you i thought it was going to be bright and vibrant because of the inspiration photo and hope there’s speckles 🤞 ive got green lambkin and she’s never done a fade but it is this year so my blanket would have 4 days of yellow in it , think i might do what you’re doing and mix them up , what mustard made looks good , woolly mamas looks pretty might go for that next year , lovely knitting 🧶 ❤
I think it totally depends what you are making doesn’t it? I don’t personally think it makes sense to knit as you go coz you don’t know the direction. Moving them all around has definitely made me excited again.
With dyecandy advent, I have been disappointed because it wasn’t what I expected from looking at their yarns. I just opened them all in the end, they were annoying me. No shade to the dyer, I love their yarns usually.
@@sh3knits198totally agree it’s not as colourful as i expected and thought there would be speckles like you said i love dye candy usually 😔
Hi, your new set up looks really good, colours are realistic, you are in focus with the background just nicely out of focus. It works.
Ah thanks. I had it on cinematic mode which seems to have been good and 2 lights. So yay! 🎉
Love your colourful podcasts! I am working on the Festive Yoke jumper, and am loving it, your sweater is amazing, can’t wait to see it finished! Happy knitting🙏 x x
Ooh that sounds fun. I’m really enjoying it, added a couple more patterns so far so getting there slowly.
I recently finished a Christmas jumper test knit that actually just came out today, Nordic Noel by Anniina Juuti and I've been sorely tempted by the Christmas doodle pullover that you're knitting but I realised watching this episode that I could use my nordic noel for the numbers and the charts from my doodle book to make a winter doodle pullover. I say a winter one, because I think I want one in really bright colours that I can wear in December but also wear in January when it's still dark and dreich and snowflakes are significantly more likely to make an appearance. I also have a Festive Yoke pullover by Skeindeer Knits that I started last year but didn't finish in time so I need to knit the sleeves on that. That one is 4ply but, again, I think I want to knit one in maybe purples in the same yarn, Kinross 4ply, but just the yoke and with the heart charts. That one came with a bunch of charts, they're all 10 stitches wide but some are different heights. I wish I could knit in my sleep.
Wow sounds like you have a list and a half. I’ll check out those patterns. Yeah snow def seems to be a Jan/Feb thing in the UK. The skeindeer one is lovely but so much colourwork in 4ply!
NE girl here too! Love your jumper and matching socks, all of your jumpers are amazing. I'm more of a neutral colour person, not by choice though! X
Thanks for the heads up about Tif Neilan pattern sale! Love your Halloween jumper colours! Good luck finishing the sunset highway for your mam
I always enjoy your podcasts, 30 mins or so is perfect!
Ah thank you for watching. I do try to aim about 30 mins
Hi, it was me who came and said hi to you at Yarndale. (otter_knits) I'm so sorry you were having a bad time. I hope we get to meet again when it's a bit better for you xx
Love watching your podcasts, I love a bit longer podcasts, what you do now is fine. Love everything you make, and you enable me sometimes, lol.
Aww that’s. It’s hard to squeeze it into a shorter one sometimes. So guess they will just vary. 😂
Adhd sucks, I'm so sorry you deal with it too. Emotion regulation can be super difficult for me at times and I can absolutely be inappropriately angry or just higher degree of emotions than others and sounds like you can too. You aren't alone and I'm not either. We will make it through tough times better next opportunity we get and if not that's okay. We'll do our best and that's it. Laying down the guilt and shame about our aspects of adhd we hate is a powerful message we send to ourselves 💙
Thank you that’s really kind. Yes def a higher degree of emotions is a great way to explain it. It’s hard not to feel shame sometimes, I’m working on it.
Hey, first time watching your podcast and loved it! I have no time but am soooo tempted to cast on that halloween sweater, it is amazing! Thanks for sharing :)
Aww welcome welcome. So happy to have newbies, thanks for giving me a try. The Halloween jumper is super cute, maybe a hat for this year? 😂
I'm sorry you had an anxiety attack about yarn dale but it sounds like you have good people around you who helped you through it. I think the lace mohair looks really good with the grey yarn, but if it's 600m you may need two skeins? maybe a purple tonal and micro stripe them with the mohair or fade them like the lento you're wearing?
Love, love, love your podcasts !! Oh the ADHD over whelm is a monster isn’t it but sounds like you had some kind people around you & on call, and you managed to attend the yarn show !! Big win xx. Lots of love x
Big giant monster that you don’t know when it’s gonna sneak up on you. Thank you for your kindness. X
Commenting for the algorithm and because I enjoy your podcast, I love all your bright colours one day. I definitely need to knit stripes sweater. I think I need to hold all the hundreds of 4ply skeins that I’ve got together. Meanwhile, I will just sit here and enjoy Knitting socks as always.
Love your super colourful projects, thanks so much, please post whenever you can fit us in, really enjoy your podcasts! 🙏☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️ x x
Ahh thank you. I like to have a good amount to talk about/show and then I slip over into too much to talk about and show 😂
I love your color choices in your projects. So vibrant. I need more of that in my life.
Martha's jumper is absolutely beautiful 😍
Martha’s jumper is going to be awesome! I’m sure we’ll run into each other at Yarndale. You’re giving me the itch for some dk socks!
The socks are so fun and quick. Great for those single skeins. Yeh I’ll see you tomorrow.
Cemetery Gates is one of my most favourite colourways. Absolutely love Beth’s yarns ❤️👍🧶
It’s yeh. A usable colour isn’t it!
Wow that ghost jumper looks so cool your daughter Martha ( who is fab ) is so lucky to have an amazing mother !! ❤❤❤
She really really is 😉
Lovely Lento sweaters! I have knit hoodie shawl cardigan, it is a great pattern. You could knit Maxine hot water bottle cover from Donegal nep, with bright pattern. 🙂
I’ll not unsubscribe really enjoy your podcasts. Thanks for all your effort. Hope you enjoyed the Ribble Valley a lovely part of Lancashire.
Keep going with the heel. The answer is out there somewhere xx
Heel flap and gusset takes longer, but actually fits. It's worth the effort.
Yeh alas I think I just need to suck it up.
Have you tried a fleegle heel? I find they fit really well. I have a basic vanilla pattern with a fleegle heel that I can send if that helps?
Ooh I don’t know I have actually.
Hi Rachel! That was a fun one! I'm glad you had pressed record 😂
Me too!! Couldn’t stop thinking about it when I started 🫣
Hello from North Yorkshire! I'm new and I really enjoyed your podcast so thank you. I have adhd, and three kids with adhd and autism so I like the way your brain works. It just makes sense to me! Your makes are all so lovely, and I'd love to give the cardi a go. Can't believe your holiday, my husband took our kids camping and ended up next to a couple who argued really loudly every night. When he asked them to keep it down the man got two axes out of his van, luckily everyone is okay and the man was arrested. Also my eldest had terrible growing pains, he's just finished college so it was a long time ago now. I remember running him warm baths in the middle of the night to help with the pain, it was horrible and I really hope your boy's pains stop soon. I'll have to catch up with your your back episodes! Xx
Ah hello and welcome! Oh goodness that sounds like a scary kinda trip, they were just a bit sweary for our liking. Wow a bath in the night sounds like hard work, our bath is currently full of stuff as we’ve done bedroom sorts and not finished, so everyone’s just showering 😂
I also have ADHD so I love the random anecdotes. I honestly can't watch the calm, thoughtful, podcasts with high production values because they're too boring. Not in a "this is totally lame" way, but my brain just gets bored and I start doing something else at the same time and realise I've tuned the whole thing out. I often have to watch things at 1.25x speed. You're fine, my brain likes the way you do things. It's weird hearing you talk about I have heard really nice things about the new yarnsmith dk acrylic for blankets but all I've used of their new yarns is the sock yarn which is beautifully soft and while I've knit with it, it's not been worn yet. And, while I live in Scotland, I am American and we don't have Wilco or Boyes where I am so I needed the explanation, thank you.
Aww what a brilliant comment. I also speed lots of podcasts up, I need the info in my brain faster ( I do this with audiobooks too). But glad you like my style. Your support is appreciated. X
I love that you jump from subject to subject - it makes your podcast much more real. I am married to someone who has ADHD and autism, so I am quite happy with that kind of conversation. I like autumnal colours myself, usually quite dark and moody, so it is a breath of fresh air to see you with all your neons and brights. I would never wear them myself, but it is lovely to see you decked out in them. I am from Cheshire (though have been in exile in the South East for almost 40 years 🥲) and can attest that the proper term for an alley is a gunnel!! Jinny
Ha thank you. I can def see some episodes it happens more frequently than others, normally if I’m in a rush ( which I always am). Oohh yes I do love a moody too, loving Floofy Fibre at the min for moody.

Lovely podcast I have stuck the hoodie shawl cardigan on my list 🎉 would love to cast on now but I’ve got the gansey on the go and also I want to cast on a radiate too and arghh!!! I also loved the puppo snoring 😂 xx
Ps will be interested to see how the stockinette one goes like!
I didn’t realise how loud she was till I watched a little bit. Didn’t ironically have time to watch it all but she’s loud!! Make sure you do fun knitting along with the big projects xx
My son used to get really bad growing pains too when he was younger. It was horrible to see, especially as i couldn't do anything to help, but thankfully it didn't last too long.
Yeh seems to be lasting much longer than my daughter.
Hi from Northern Minnesota in the US. I am a new subscriber and your use of amazing color is what caught my eye. I love your bold choices they are fun to look at, but most importantly you look so happy and excited working on them and wearing them. And that is what makes your videos stand out for me. I don't want everything to be stage set. I want to see people enjoying their hobby. And a extra joy comes when they show us pets! Bonus points if it's a fat orange cat! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Welcome welcome! What an incredibly nice comment to receive. That’s made my day. I do not have any fat orange cats. My friend does though lol.
A snicket is what you call an alley. A Gunnel is a snicket which is under cover, you would probably call it a passage
Ah see a passage is what my grandad called the 2nd door to his house, it’s funny we all call things different things.
Love your love of colour. Will definitely keep an eye out for your destash. Happy knitting x
Aww thanks Ruth
Hi Rachel I love your podcasts…I’m not a rainbow knitter but all your gorgeous rainbow knits just make me so happy!! You put all the colours together so beautifully…really love the purple and yellow one ❤. You have inspired me so I have been getting the spectrum fibre tropics mini club each month and will be knitting the little squares blanket in all those lovely brights!!!! Please Don’t stop podcasting you’re one of my favourites!!❤❤
Aww that’s fantastic to hear, she is fabulous at putting great colours together, I’m sure you will love it.
Glad to have found you! (Waves from HX! 🎉)
Ah hello. Welcome welcome! Happy to have you here. 😩
Thank you for the new episode. It's always great to see all you projects ♥
