Best game of hurling I ever seen. What a battle
Does anyone have the full version of this documentary, which covers the whole 2004 hurling season?
Greatest game of hurling ever
Greatest sporting moment of all time!
Jesus Waterford are some bottlers in hurling. Beat Cork in 2004 and went missing in the semi v Kilkenny
Best match I was ever at...from a wexford man
Christy ring is the greatest hurler ever, but he is the dirtiest hurler ever aswell
My auld fella said that Ringy had to get dirty after the 47 final against Kilkenny, he took no shit after that. They bate him up and down Croke Park. Bulked up, Hells Kitchen vs Tipp for the next decade - the rest was history.
9 absolute langers downvoted this video
Best game I was ever at. Came out on the back of the stadium in a StJohn's ambulance after twisting my ankle on the terrace in the celebrations but it was worth it it. Up the Deise.
Congratulations best wishes ring and mackay cork
One thing I remember,Christy signed a copy of the book "spirit of the glen" for me which I afterwards gave to the Clare goalkeeper Seamus Durack (maybe he still has it) but the impression that stays with me is Christy was not a big man he was probably about 53 years old that time. The other funny thing is I remember the book signing was in Fitzgeralds Electric in the Grand Parade which years later i could not understand(why not Easons in Patrick St.but I think the reason was Christy lived in a flat overhead of Fitzgeralds.
Christy was fanatical about hurling,he was also ahead of his time because he used to study other players and even referees to see what they might allow,he never drank or smoked and played at the highest levels well into his forties,in my opinion he was definitely the greatest hurler right up to the present time.
They say ring could go around you with the ball- but Mackey would go through you.
Simply ring was the greatest he would have thrived in the modern game and am sorry to tell all yee killkenny lads 2 things shefflin wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes in rings era and Eddie keher was a better hurler
The Greatest ever
They will never stop talking about you Christy.....D J Carey and Henry Sheflin wouldn't lace your boots.
Fucking legends sorry you never won an all Ireland you'll get there up the deise
Looking good for 2022⚪🔵⚪
Ring actually said always keep your eye on the ball even when it's in the referees pocket
He was a legend..
The best sporting event I've witnessed live
I hope someday that ye win the Liam Mccarthy Cup. Like our limerick senior team ye deserve that reward for ye efforts and determination. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Monsoon of a summer!!☔️☁️
👍epic stuff.
Then it all changed for Dublin from 2011 onwards.
The greatest game in the world
Slightly disrespectful from Damien Lawlor saying that Leinster was a "joke". Wexford ran Kilkenny to 2 points in 2002, beat them in 04 and came within 3 points of Kilkenny in 05, so it's only fair to say that Wexford were competitive with Kilkenny over a 4/5 year period. It was only from 06 onwards that a serious gap opened up. In fairness, not too many teams either within or outside Leinster could live with Kilkenny from 06 onwards.
Cork won fuck all since 2005 in the mean time Kilkenny have won 8 all Ireland's Galway one Clare one Limerick one cork 0 and by the way that cork team was full of dirty players
I cannot understand their accents. Sounds like they talk without fullstops.
Legends. That’s why I’m glad to see the likes of Joe Canning and Henry Shefflin, etc in the flesh as they will some day be looked back on with the same awe.
YES THEY ARE GREAT PLAYERS OF THE MODERN GAME , . CROWD PULLERS NOT , RING BROUGHT 20000 EXTRA PEOPLE TO SEE HIM AND MANY FROM OTHER COUNTIES , THATS HOW YOU JUDGE ,
@@johnhunt7291 probably because there was no tv back in the day
maybe tv had a slight bearing on it , 61 munster final 65000 in limerick . tipp v cork , 3 yrs later 30000 people same teams , i barely remember him , he was unique ,
@@johnhunt7291 it's hard to judge players from different era's. The old ball compared with the one now days. Fitness levels completely different. My favourite era even though there's not much footage of it, is the ones that started it all in the first place in 1888. We're all so lucky to watch this great game
QUIE TRUE BUT MY DISCUSSION IS BOUT THE DRAW HE WAS , unique , and id guess no other player will draw people to see them , old ball fitness different rules , he was before my time but i have to acknowledge he had no peers , he filled venues by his very presence ,
My Father always used to say The Munster Hurling Final is the All Ireland Final
Great days for Hurling. I'm a Dub and many people who would not even watch Hurling a lot, would love to watch Waterford play. Huge personalities at the time, Mullane, Shanahan, Kelly, McGrath...Before Helmets became compulsory as well meant the personalities seemed bigger somehow. Waterford were must watch back then for any sports fan. Cork as well played a huge role in Hurling's popularity in those early Noughties.
+Rob Cousins All true. Fact is hurling is effectively a foreign game in much of Ireland - there are big towns with no club - and it needs its star players but the helmets make the players less visible and less well known.
Does anyone have the full programme?
Brilliant
Even though Cork lost, this was one of the best matches I have ever been to. Will always remember it!
nice
diarmuid o sullivan .....lol
at 1 min 15 my mrs (blue wig) my mam (big sambrero) and me and my dad, treasured memorys
U have never heard the dublin accent so
A Leanamh look at these videos and are inspired Christie was fantastic but it will come around again - the entire world tried to change us and we are still here - God exists - He gave us hurling for our own
Absolute Legend - My son is 13 and we are Baile Atha Cliatha but he watches every video of Christie Ring and from the grave he has inspired a young boy who wants to be just like him if not better ....... from a proud dad
Lamb - Angelica
Have you got the one that came out in 2004?
Great win for Waterford and yet Cork won the McCarthy Cup.
Brian Cody
Eh kerry limerick, moore street dublin, wexford town, enniscorthy , I think you might be overestimating there
Never seen Ring or Mackey... but I know they are legends.. I hope in 50 years Shefflin and DJ are still spoken about because I will have the stories then... Hurling - Irelands game
why would you use this song
Beautiful vid. For me it's not just about hurling or even GAA but the great success story that was 20th Century Ireland, where we set about forging a nation out of our own imaginations. The footage of our grandfathers interspersed with the modern game, the fleeting glimpse of Dev, the iconic narration of Michéal O'Hehir; all captures the spirit of the age. We can be cynical about this project and it certainly hasn't been smooth sailing, but this vid reminds us there was a lot of good in it too.
Thank God I had the pleasure of seeing Christy play for Cork and Glen Rovers. To me he will always be the greatest hurler of ALL time. When hurlers were men and the going was tough Ring was the best.
fuck 8 years ago ! i watched that when i was 9 now im nearly 18 wow
well i suppose ur 22 now
28 now!!
biggest regret in life is not playing hurling
I think it's Adagio for strings made popular in the movie Platoon and yes all these years later it is a still pulsating.
