Inner Monologue by Ambar Rivera - for trombone choir
Ambar Rivera is a Puerto Rican composer who wrote "Inner Monologue" for The inaugural Discord Low Brass Composition Contest when she was just 17 years old. While the piece is not intended to be programmatic in any way, it's easy to hear influences from Rivera's heritage and background throughout this piece. This turned out to be the most challenging piece technically that I've recorded so far, and it was a thrill to finally get this piece the debut it deserves.

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie - arranged for trombone choir
Просмотров 563 года назад
"I Will Follow You Into The Dark", written and performed by Ben Gibbard, is a plaintive song exploring the theme of the death of a loved one. In the lyrics, the singer vows to follow his lover into death even if there is no promise of an afterlife. The lyrics are touching and poignant, but they have always reminded me of mental illness. Rather than put up just another video of myself playing al...
Rhosymedre by Ralph Vaughan Williams - arranged for trombone choir
Просмотров 1883 года назад
Named after a village in Wales, "Rhosymedre" is a hymn tune composed in the 19th century by Welsh Anglican priest John David Edwards. In 1920, Ralph Vaughan Williams used this tune as the basis for the second of his Three Preludes on Welsh Hymn Tunes, written for the organ. This arrangement for trombone choir is by Royce Lumpkin; at Gabrielle's insistence, I transposed Lumpkin's arrangement up ...
Invincible by Russell Brower and Jason Hayes - arranged for trombone choir

I remember when I used to play World of Warcraft. It was the glory days of the game, when it was at its best with its plot, gameplay, and of course, music. Even the title screen theme could easily be considered a true overture in the way it seamlessly blends themes and leitmotifs from throughout the game, and this piece also endures as one of the best-known themes from the game, even over a dec...
Liebst du um Schönheit by Gustav Mahler - arranged for five trombones and tuba
Просмотров 1383 года назад
In honor of International Trombone Week, I chose a wonderfully self-deprecating love song for folks with low self esteem written by Friedrich Rückert and set to music by Gustav Mahler. David Rahbee wrote this arrangement for five trombones and tuba for Charles Vernon. For this video, because I do not own a tuba, I played the tuba part up an octave on euphonium and pitched it down an octave. Tha...
Christus factus est by Anton Bruckner - arranged for trombone choir

Anton Bruckner composed this motet, his third setting of the Maundy Thursday gradual, in 1884, and dedicated it to Fr. Otto Loidol of the Benedictine monastery of Kremsmünster. Áron Simon wrote this arrangement for Saker Music. Thank you, also, to my wonderful friend Gabrielle Baum for being so generous as to do the audio and video for this recording. Ariadne's Lament by Mary Jane Leach - for trombone choir
Просмотров 4213 года назад
I decided to record a piece for Women's History Month, and two things jumped out at me while looking at my options: the first is that (as has been the case throughout history) there aren't many published women composers writing for brass, and the second is that this piece in particular is a great example of why that's a tragedy. Its composer, Mary Jane Leach, writes works that are particularly ...
Gustav Mahler - Brass Chorale from Symphony No. 2 (V), performed by r/TheRedditSymphony
Просмотров 5863 года назад
Gustav Mahler (1860 - 1911) Brass Chorale from Symphony No. 2 (V) This absolutely iconic three and a half minutes from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 is a showcase for the orchestra's brass section and, in my opinion, is capable of standing alone as a piece of music unto itself. In the piece as a whole, it is almost set off from its surroundings, preceded by silence and followed by a complete c...
Paul Dukas - Fanfare to precede La Péri, performed by r/TheRedditSymphony
Просмотров 2984 года назад
Paul Dukas (1865 - 1935) Fanfare pour précéder La Péri Best known for his tone poem "L'apprenti sorcier" (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), Dukas composed a number of lesser-known works in a variety of genres. The one-act ballet La Péri was his last major work, and this piece, the last that he allowed to be published, is a fanfare written for the entire orchestral brass section and was intended to pr...
You know when you’re searching through endless YT videos and you fall on a hidden gem? This is one of those.
Let's go
Very beautiful! The trombone choir is so resonant and adds such a "royalty" to the sound.
Friend, you made me feel something wonderful by listening to this song again. Could you please share the arrangement you used? Congratulations and for the horde!
Justin, thanks for the great performance and for making this awesome video!
That was a great piece. Surprised it wasn't in the top handful
Really great
Great job!
Nice! I love the gradual build up at 1:02 😊
One of the stipulations of the contest was that the pieces had to be quite short. It would be interesting to see what might have happened if she'd had the space to flesh out these ideas further without running up against an arbitrary time limit.
FIRST
