Goalkeeper training sessions, drills, games, and techniques. These videos are from sessions that I run with the goalkeepers I train from youth to college to professional. I try to give a description on all activities being performed for understanding, but would be happy to answer any questions.

Why did you remove the sound of the workouts? It's relaxing and more entertaining. No Hate. I like your videos.😅
Sometimes things said in training should stay in training. I'm happy to hear you enjoy the videos.
Actually like this with the power step and the push with the medicine ball
Is this b team? How old are they?
I don't know if this was intended or not, but I really like the idea of using the other GK to cause a little bit of distraction in the initial crossing moment in the technical activation. Love the content as a coach, I have utilized some of the things that I have seen in some of my college sessions. I would love to see the actual session planning process that you use as well, Keep up the great work!
Thank you for that. I appreciate the feedback and am happy to hear that you are finding the videos useful. The set up for the warm up activity was in large part to get as many goalkeepers involved as I can so that we can maximize the amount of time we have each day. With 5-6 goalkeepers it can require some creativity to keep them all going. The other part is as you said, having people moving around you in the area as you go to take a cross creates some live feel and also tests concentration. Good luck this fall!
What are your thoughts on using the outside of the foot when switching the play like your started doing in the drills at 6:20 mark?
I'm not very big on "nevers," but for me it would only be as a last resort for a goalkeeper under so much pressure that another surface of the foot would not be an option. I would be concerned about the quality, pace, and accuracy of the pass in this area of the field.
hey coach, was wondering what camera you use for filming, and if you could let me know what equipment it is. Love how it looks, appreciate it!
Most is recorded with a GoPro Hero 10. That said, I am moving away from it more and more. To record at the resolution and framerate that I do for the length of time that I do seems to be too much for the camera. It overheats constantly and turns off. This has been an issue with every version of GoPro I have used. The Insta360 One R is, in my opinion, a better camera. I have been using it more often with less issues.
Thanks for posting all of these Coach. I really like reviewing them to see what I can take away and use on the field.
Thank you for the feedback, Gavin. I'm very happy to hear that you feel that you're getting something out of the sessions.
Very interesting to see that "Sam" didn't get any playing time... looked like the best keeper in terms of technique to me here, lol. Great session, awful pitch haha - slows down the pace a bunch!
Sam is an outstanding goalkeeper and I really enjoyed the time I had to work with him. We were incredibly fortunate to have a group of talented goalkeepers who all had their own set of skills. I think awful is going a bit far on the pitch, but I totally agree that it was too long and that certainly effected the quality of the session.
nice
Can you coach me
Great training session! As a GK coach, your videos have been extremely helpful over the years. Congrats on your move to RSL!
Thank you! Very happy to hear that you've gotten something out of them!
wow
what were the keepers doing with the agility poles?
They are trying to keep both balanced using just one hand for as long as they can. When the pole drops that is their cue to transition to the ball that is being played in.

What age are you working with?
These are U15 & 17

I am in Uganda
Hey I’m a goalkeeper I’m 15 years old and I wondering do you have any tips to get into a mls next academy
Start by reaching out to some. Most have a player profile you can fill out. Some have "combines" you can attend too so you can play in front of the staff.
Absolutely loved the video! However, I have one small critique. In the very first drill, the lads started off in their set position to transition through the lines to then receive the ball. As they were transitioning through those lines, their heads and eyes were more focused on looking at each step on the ground, rather than focusing on watching the ball and getting to that set position for the service in. My critique would be just for them to be aware of that one small thing because you want to emulate game scenario and match play the best you can. This is a great session and hope the boys are doing well.
Glad you enjoy the session and I appreciate the feedback. Always good for sparking thoughts and ideas to hear other people's opinion.
keep up the good work!
What year is this team
U15 and U17
Ok thanks
Have you left Syracuse?
Yes. I have taken a position with Real Salt Lake
@@michaelflynngkcoach9544 good luck in your new job. My son and I have watched your Syracuse videos the last two years to get training ideas. He committed to Radford University in February.
Thank you so much! I am glad you were able to get something out of them. Congratulations to your son! I hope he has a wonderful experience.
Good training ❤❤❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it

Es de noche?
Just inside.
Standards shocking- drills make no sense at all focus on the basics
Good practice! Did you get influenced by the England team? I remembered their practice while watching yours
I try to take influence from anywhere I can. I watch as much as I can find and then try to tweek or adjust things to get out of the activity what I am looking to get out of it. I do not remember exactly where inspiration may have come from for this, but anything is possible. I have been really enjoying the way the French and German coaches have been doing things recently.
Just curious what made you get into goalie coaching and do you have any advice for someone trying to get into college coaching?
Well when I finished my playing career I wasn't ready to be done being around the game. I had worked with goalkeepers while I was playing so decided to make the transition into that. I think the best advice I can give for getting into college coaching is just to make the effort to do it. Reach out to schools. Go after opportunities. I think you would be amazed how few people actually apply for goalkeeping jobs and how many, especially smaller schools, are looking for people to fill those roles.
Question, noticed that your keepers are dragging their toes prior to their set position in this video and yesterday's video. Are you teaching that to keep them from jumping into their set position?
No. It is a habit that needs to be broken. Some times you will hear me say something like "Pick it up and put it down." That is in reference to the toe drag. Limits mobility, athleticism, and time to react.
I've been using these bands with my son when we do keeper training over the last three. He thought it was ridiculous but I am glad he will see you using them.
Thanks for changing the camera angle, it helped me understand why sometimes they were going into the small goal or to you
It can be difficult to get the whole picture sometimes without an elevated camera and multiple locations can be the only way to get it all in. Glad the second angle helped bring it all together.
Like the stuff Michael. My only thought would be, why not do the last progression prior to the second progression? Just a thought as the idea of building from technical to completely functional?
Yeah really good point. We had a conflict with facilities and had to leave one and walk into the other and start training immediately. The session was planned for the first facility based on equipment we had in it. I had to change/scrap some things on the fly because of it. But you're 100% right.
@@michaelflynngkcoach9544 Makes complete sense to me! Gotta love scheduling conflicts. Even happens at the big time!
🔥🔥🔥
amazing drills. if u may coach, could u upload quickness, defense organization and predicting the strickers' shot type of drills
Nice session guys
How many times do you train in a game week and for how long? Cheers
It depends. A game week usually consists of 2 games so really you get 4 training sessions. We usually train as a team for an hour 15 or so. And of that I get the goalkeepers anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes.
Tell em to cut the grass, lol way too long. Its a decent pitch but needs to be cut.
It's our 3rd training field so it is not an incredibly high priority.
oh gotcha! Goodluck on the season!!@@michaelflynngkcoach9544
Who is the keeper that usually starts?
Jahiem is our current starter. He is the first one to work each activity.
This drill is awesome. Keepers get spooked and flinch all the time in this scenario! If I was a trainer I wouldnt practice this with Pickford tho
What is the Problem? Wearing a Mask in free Air?
Coach, do you think you could put the amount of reps per drill? I really like incorporating the drills into my sessions, but I am just curious how many “sets and reps’ D1 gks are doing for these exercises.
It's usually 3 or 4 and sometimes if it's very technical and low impact 5. It depends on the specific activity and how far out we are from match day, and of course how much time I'm given to work with them that day.
Nice session
Love this guys
What do you use for your rebounders in the pass/rebound shot/save drill at the end?
We use a few different kinds. A small, medium, and large so to speak. The large red one in the video is KwikGoal. The medium white one in the video is Pro Control. And then we have a smaller foldable one be Tekkrs.
Thanks, Michael.
As a coach with 4 gks myself I have been loving your videos. Been having some amzing sessions the past few weeks. Keep it up!
Really glad to hear the videos have been useful for you and your goalkeepers. Good luck the rest of the season!
