I just want to come out and say words can’t describe how we even managed to pulled it off and kicked big asses, but after so much hard work and very many days of sweat and tears put into our show, it really paid off! For the first time in 7 years in the band’s history, we’re heading to motherfliping Area! Me as The Front Ensemble’s Section Leader and my first year as a sophomore taking on a leadership role wasn’t something I wasn’t expecting to accept but am glad I did! I can vividly still remember from the first days at band camp back in mid-July this year where we were learning the first few measures of Mvt. 1 of the show music, and helping this new freshman (who was Gio) giving some masterclasses of reading marching music and learning & lots of reps on the first few measures, who would later become a good friend, now fast forward before even school started, we got the show down, learned the whole music and now to present day as of October 21st, 2024, we’re about to take the following final 4 hours of rehearsal time left this week to fix up the judges gave feedback on to prepare for Area this Saturday and possibly State in November (if we perform so damn good enough to empress the judges). Me being section leader (hope I'm not being repetitive with this topic) was more than just being a member, I had to take responsibility, lead the section, encourage student’s ownership and setting a new standard for this year. To be honest they were times at band camp where I kinda felt I led them down or the front ensemble isn’t where I expected it should be going but I was proven wrong, they managed to pull it off despite my dumbass! Even almost a year ago in November 2023 where I made the biggest investment in my musical life and after saving up for 3 months, bought my own Boss Dr. Beat DB-90 (the famous met) and said to it that it will help out alot during band camp next year, and that came true. I kinda want to say that I didn’t get the front ensemble (including) the band to Area, my DB-90 was the champion and will keep doing it’s job as its main role of being the loud ass deafening metronome. 😅😂 I want to say thank you for my percussion directors Mr. Limones 🍋(his nickname) and Adrian Rodriguez 🥁 for seeing me last year as the future section leader for the front ensemble for this year, at first I hesitated because I was nervous and scared taking a leadership role but after considering and also that big investment I made where I actually thought it was a lame stupid investment, I accepted the position for this year and that “lame stupid” investment really paid off, started off of using it to guide the section to now a full percussion ensemble to now got us to Area. And I kinda saved this best for last but I want to give a special thank you to which I consider to be my true best friend is MaggieMango for supporting me and being part of my leadership journey mentally and physically when I was going through leadership training and being section leader and I’m thankful for having you in my life and you’re my only place I go to where I feel the most trust & feel safe when I need to get my stressed out dumbass and anxiety out of my mind. 🌟👑🐝 And finally thank you to everyone who supported us through this journey, and all the band boosters who spent and dedicated their own time helping out and all the stuff they do behind the scenes!
