Interesting to see how the story of the war was told in the 60s. Would've been something to sit and watch with some of those old WWI vets.
Yes some really good stuff! I love this whole series. Unique footage, vet interviews, doesn’t get much better.
Complete flop with inappropriate rock music and eternal teenager Sofia Boutella in a far-fetched role as a ridiculous "bar spy". Which in a real bar in the USA or in England, even beer will not be poured due to her teenage appearance and teenage changing voice.
I just found your channel. Normally when I have a new channel I start from the earliest videos. As interested as I am in the SAS, I skipped ahead to this series. I love this show.
Thanks for joining and watching! Really appreciate it. I loved Shogun, best show of 2024 and even for a long time. So well made.
Late to the party but around 14:51 the Italian Navy officer addresses the issue about german soldiers not being allowed to have beards and then he is told in italian that they are “ingegneri” which could be translated as “pioneers”. I do not know if in real life german pioneers were allowed beards but since I’m italian I wanted to help y’all non-italian speakers to at least get this bit of convo. Cheers
Thank you so much! Was really annoyed I didn’t have subtitles for that part and was wondering what they were saying. This really helps a lot 👍🏻
Nicely put together ❤️
Thanks mate 💪🏻
This series is about Entertainment idk why assholes like you have to fact check every single bit what comes on tv or movies. My question Were you there when it happened? yall would show up here youtube like flies and push that you know the truth but when no one in this planet today knows what happened during that time we can only speculate on what information we have about that time.
Powerful and superb video. Very somber and moving. It is heartbreaking to see so many graves at each cemetery, so many names at the memorials, and to see so many are missing. I would like to visit these cemeteries. I have seen videos of some but not all of them. Great work again. Have a nice Tuesday, Marcel.
Thanks! Those places are very humbling to visit. You get a real sense of the lives sacrificed.
@@HistoryWarCinema Anytime! Great point. I remember feeling humbled and somber when I visited Arlington National Cemetery and am sure I'd feel similar (if not even heavier emotions) if I were to visit a WWI or WWII museum.
This was a fantastic series. I cannot wait for series 2.
Couldn’t agree more! So much fun. Hope season 2 comes soon, I hate waiting 😂
Thank you so much for that interesting history lesson! The real history behind this is really amazing, I will look more into that for sure
Finally, the real Hosokawa Tadaoki excelled in both the literary and military arts, was knowledgeable in the tea ceremony, was handsome, and loved Hosokawa Gracia dearly. However, he was an extremely tyrant who killed anyone who came through the checkpoint and went on a rampage. After he surrendered, he massacred all his enemies. At this time, he was scolded by Akechi Mitsuhide. There is an anecdote that, in a fit of jealousy, he killed a gardener who had seen his wife, but when Akechi Mitsuhide rebelled against Nobunaga, he immediately imprisoned Akechi Mitsuhide's daughter, Hosokawa Gracia, deep in the mountains and avoided the death penalty. Even during the time of imprisonment, she gave birth to one child. The Hosokawa family is a prestigious family even in modern Japan. They have even produced a prime minister.
Thank you so much for all the extra information, really learned a lot from it!
Although kaishaku may seem cruel at first glance, it was an act of mercy on the part of the samurai, as leaving the seppuku unattended would have meant long and painful experiences. The etiquette of seppuku changed during the Edo period. The kaishaku (the person who performed the beheading) was highly skilled, and some samurai even specialized in it. The kaishaku had a very difficult technique of placing the head on their lap and leaving only the skin. Such samurai secured status as officials and passed on the technique to their descendants. There were also cases where circumstances made it impossible to perform seppuku, which was considered dishonorable for the samurai. The seppuku ceremony became more lavish depending on the samurai's status. The kaishaku was chosen from friends, acquaintances, and family members who were skilled enough to perform seppuku.
A loyal samurai serves his lord with his life. The way one dies is more important than the act of dying. In this case, Hiramatsu understood Toranaga's feelings and united his vassals by dying himself. In Japan, after a funeral, people mourn for 49 days. During this time, fighting is refrained from. The death of his son bought Toranaga time to prepare for battle.
Check ur email for better editing
Hiromatsu learned that Toranaga was going to fight under the pretense of surrender. Since there were many spies in Edo, he could not tell his vassals the truth. He had no intention of committing seppuku from the start, but when another vassal put his hand on his sword, Hiromatsu immediately decided that he would take full responsibility and put an end to the internal strife. Toranaga sensed this and said, "I have a plan, and I cannot let you die now, so let us die together in Osaka." However, Hiromatsu's resolve was strong, and because he and Toranaga understood each other's feelings through their conversation, he had no choice but to act with the intention of dying. I think it was really painful for Toranaga in his heart that things turned out this way.
Makes sense now that you say this! I thought at the time I was watching it, that Toranaga and Hiromatsu planned it together before that meeting, but this makes sense. Thanks!

Same! Such a good show so far. And the music, damn. AC/DC, Motorhead 🤟🏻
I just recently found your Shogun reactions. It has joined the ranks of my all-time favorite shows! Just yesterday they announced this year's Emmy Nominations and Shogun led all shows with a total of TWENTY FIVE nominations. I don't know if you've watched any of the background videos about the making of the show. The attention to detail and to authenticity is remarkable. I'm glad the show has gotten such high praise and recognition! If you haven't already found it, the FX Networks web site "Shogun Viewers Guide" has a ton of excellent features on the characters, historical background, the making of the show, etc.
Thanks for watching! I have just finished recording all reactions and you are right, also one of my favorite shows of all time. So well written, acted and everything looks amazing: sets, costumes. Thanks for the suggestion, will check those out for sure, didn't know about that viewers guide.
Until the Tuskegee Airmen were introduced, the show was focused on one unit. The problem, really, was that they needed another episode or two, Tuskegee or not. One thing people should be aware of is a very good film from 1995, "The Tuskegee Airmen." Great cast.
Oh yes that's a good movie. Some mistakes in it, but aren't all historical movies like that. That cast is legendary.
Thank you for the SAS Rogues reaction videos....I watched them all....... Ben Macintyre (who's book this series is based on) also made a 3 episode documentary called 'SAS Rogue Warriors' which has all the factual details sourced for 'SAS Rogue Heroes' series....I couldn't find all the episodes on YT but if you can source them elsewhere it is well worth a watch....
Oh wow, really. I will have to see if i can find that. Thanks for the tip!
A slightly similar event was the Baltimore riot of 1861. Very near the beginning of the American Civil War the Union was moving troops into DC. But the tracks through Baltimore were not continuous, and Baltimore had many pro-southern civilians. As the troops were marching from one train station to the next, violence broke out, and 17 were killed, along with many wounded.
Damn, sounds like a horrible event. I will have to try and find more information on that. Thanks!
The two farmers that initially captured Bucky were of the right age to have been world war I vets.
That makes sense!
Knowing some Spanish would have been helpful there. The first time the conductor asked, I wasn't sure. But the second time it sounded like billete, the Spanish for ticket.
It's also the French translation for ticket. Which would make sense since they were heading into Paris.
I think the date was okay. If writing as 3 numbers, then an American would most likely do month/day/year. But he wrote the month out, so I see nothing suspicious.
Yeah it's hard to see but they focus on it for a reason I think. Must be a combination of things what gave him away.
The movie "Play Dirty" (1969) is even better !
Never seen that one! Will check it out, thanks!
The Series was great indeed!
Sure was! Season 2 can't come fast enough!

Thanks! Appreciate it 👍🏻
The LRDG (Long Range Desert Group) never get enough credit in this story. They were the masters of desert survival and navigation and passed on the knowledge to the SAS. Without them the SAS campaign probably would have failed.
Yes you are very right. They were really important to the operation and the survival of the SAS. It’s a shame that it was only slightly referenced, as they really focus a lot on Stirling and Mayne.
@@HistoryWarCinema Mike Sadler died earlier this year, aged 103. Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays him in the series, visited him during the production.
Overloon staat zeker in mijn top 5 van nl. En de speciale dagen zijn geweldig. Ook de begraafplaats van overloon is indrukwekkend. En het punt bij de beek waar zwaar gevochten is. Mooie video😊

Great video Marcel! Especially the Drone shots 😝
Haha thanks mate. And agree, those are amazing 🤪
Great video, Marcel! The aerial shot at the start was great. Powerful too. It was sad to see so many graves there. 12,000 and over 8,300 are unknown...Wow. That hit the heart. The toll is staggering. It's a beautiful cemetery. They've done a great job in maintaining it. Another excellent aerial shot too before the 4 minute mark. There is quite a contrast between the original burials and other graves. So many soldiers buried together too. I know you mentioned that there were 8,300 unknown soldiers buried, but it was powerful to see the graves of the unknown soldiers (especially to see so many in the same row). Private J.P. Robertson, V.C. was so courageous and selfless. You gave a great summary of his bravery and story. You have great shots of the cemetery throughout the video. So many names on the wall that lists the missing soldiers. It was great to learn about Captain Morehouse. Chris gave great information. It's sad how both father and son were killed. I didn't know about a death penny. Rob gave great information also. It's sad how Lloyd Jones was never found. Sad how Corporal William Clamp was never found either. The poem you shared at the end hits the heart too. Excellent poem. Excellent and moving video. It is very powerful. Keep up the wonderful work.
Thanks for the kind words! The death penny was given to family members of killed soldiers. It has their name inscribed on it.
@@HistoryWarCinema You're welcome, Marcel! Keep up the nice work. Thanks for the info about the death penny. I didn't know that, but appreciate the info. I wonder if other countries also gave death pennies to family members of killed soldiers.
Not that I know off. You can buy a death penny or memorial plaque how it is called pretty easy on Ebay and other websites. The German thing you see a lot for sale is a death card. Those were handed out to people at the funeral, it almost always had a picture of the dead soldier on it and other info, like a poem. Those are easy to find as well online, both from WW1 and WW2.
@@HistoryWarCinema Thanks for the info! This is helpful. Thanks again :)
Excellent video Marcel. Such a moving place
Thanks my friend! It really is, one of those places where you can feel the weight of what happened.
Hi, I saw the link to your video from your reply :). It's cool how you found a lead ball early on :]. The barbed wire is a cool find also. I didn't know there were differences in the barbed wire used by the British and Germans. Chris has some great finds too. It's incredible how much can still be found over 100 years after the war concluded. You found some huge shell fragments. It's neat how Sander found a fuse too. Would you recommend visiting in April? Interesting. Yeah, the shotgun shell didn't look like it was from the war, but it was a cool find as was the lead ball. Sander's finds are cool too. It's really fun seeing different RUclipsrs appear in other RUclipsrs' videos. History meetups are cool. I agree - Chris' find is cool too. Cool video! I see that you react to shows/films too. I want to see Shogun and I'm excited to see your reactions. I'm going to subscribe. Take care :). :)
Hey! thanks for subscribing, really appreciate it. April is a very good month to go, good weather mostly probably and also ideal for relic hunting in the fields, since most of them are freshly ploughed then.
