How Moneyball RUINED the Oakland A's
Просмотров 22 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Moneyball was a beautiful thing that the Oakland Athletics front office executed to perfection throughout the 21st century. But as John Fisher’s tenure prolonged, Moneyball seemed to become less about winning with a low payroll and more about simply just having a low payroll. Thank You for watching. Not an Astros fan but i see plenty of Astros games actually in the stadium from AL division rivals and at Minute Maid park. I hear the most hate for Bregman. I rarely hear any quips about him from the crowd in other stadiums. Altuve is a good hard working player. I think anyone that actually keeps up with baseball sees that the Altuve likely did not cheat. A magical paper thin buzzer? I'm an electrical engineer and devices like that don't exist. And it was proven they used garbage cans to cheat. And it was also somewhat proven that Altuve refused to cheat and the banging did not occur when Altuve was at bat. Was it garbage can bangs or a buzzer? It's just normal hate from jealous fans.

    • @_ve0
      @_ve0 4 часа назад

      @ your anecdotal evidence doesn’t dispute mine. As far as refusing to cheat himself, sure, but he didn’t have a problem with benefitting from his teammates using it. Regardless of whether or not he was using the bangs during his own at bats, he still participated with a team that cheated to win. To completely absolve him (or any player on that team) is insanity to me. He knew about it, and stole playoff series from more deserving teams

      It was kinda proven he wasn't, though. I'm no Astros fan, but dude is a legit baller. Inside sources talk about how Altuve was one of the players who refused to cheat and even got mad when trash cans banged for him. I don't blame you for labeling him a cheater, but if you want to have an opinion on it, I think it's only fair that you do some research into the scandal. Some of the Astros did absolutely cheat and it's fair to label them as such. Most true fans really only jeer at Bregman now as they know the truth. But you'd actuallyh have to get out of your house and go to a real game in person to know that.

    The problem is what the problem always was. No matter how you evaluate your players, once everyone knows who is the best, the top team in the league is gonna be able to buy them out from under you. The new system worked as long as no one knew about it. But once everyone DID know about it, they can do it too. And they can still outbuy you.

  • @noeliosis3775
    @noeliosis3775 21 день назад

    Moneyball never worked because Fisher bought the team and squashed it. The entire dismantling of it started in 2014 when the A's were the best team in the game at the time and we traded Cepedes for Lester for only half a season as the next off season he went back to the Red Sox. We were a shoe-in for a championship run that year and Fisher destroyed it and continued to squash any new stadium build in Oakland for the 20 years he's had the team. Moneyball was used with owners who loved the team and city, but lacked the bankroll needed. Hence Fisher being the 16th richest owner we were hopeful but at every corner would not invest in the team period. The amount of talent that has come through the A's only for the prime years to be used else where is an absolute crime to the fan base and so we stopped showing up. He killed the fan base for him to get even richer. I don't get it you've got plenty of money why do you need to make more at the expense of a local economy and a loyal blue collar fan base? It's a sad situation and can't be an A's fan until Fisher is gone.

    Best fastball that anyone has ever seen? I think you all talk like cleft assholes when masturbation sounds like that. No its NOT the best fastball in the world. Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson and Sandy Colfax are pretty hard to deny that they had the best fast ball of all time. This guy can use stickum and have a sticky baseball so not it won't be the same in the Show. He is not better than Shohei Otani's 103 ball . The best pitcher in the world right now is NOT from Japan. He is is about to win the Cy Young and I would take him every single time if I had to choose between the two . Skubal is the best complete pitcher in baseball. I do not believe that anyone who watches the guy play could say otherwise. The guy is fantastic. Now if you wanted to say best available pitcher on the international marketplace I would agree but not the best in the world. Skenes is the real deal and there are many great pitchers in many places even Mexico has one guy I can think of that is one of those type players. if they have never won a Cy young they are not the best in the world because they have never played the best hitters. The best hitters in the world cannot hit Skenes. They can hit Yamamoto and Imanaga all over at times. So do not give me that song and dance. I would not even say that Sasaki is not even better than Jacob Misiorowski right now as far as talent goes and they throw the exact same fastball with similar windups and releases. I would say he is even with Mis right now but not better.

  • @jesusoftheapes
    @jesusoftheapes Месяц назад

    TWO WORDS ..PAUL SKENES . Sorry the best pitchers are in the MLB already. The Japan group is a nice addition but they are not better than the guys in the Show . Sorry they just are not . They fit in here but they are not the dominate pitchers you all make them out to be . Shohei Otani , Imanaga and the Yamamoto proved they come over and play well but not dominate until they learn how to actually pitch big league style or they tear themselves up like happened with Otani and will happen with Sasaki as his shoulder is already showing signs of going the bad way. They take a lot of work to make the MLB from Japan as the leagues may play the same sport but are not the same in anyway. They have the tools but until they come to the Bigs they are never complete.

    Today's A's collapse has nothing to do with moneyball. It has to do with the owner. BUT Moneyball did hurt the A's in the post season. I wrote an article on it showing why. The A's were great at drafting and getting young players. Problem is when they wanted big money they couldn't afford them anymore. With moneyball though in the regular season the A's relied on OB% which was greatly enhanced by HR's and walks. In the post season the pitching is far better and what are the two things that are harder to come by in the playoffs? Walks and Home runs. The A's did NOT manufacture runs. The way to beat the A's was simple. No walks and limit the hr's. During the regular season, many of the games the A's lost they had few walks or hr's. The games that they were given walks and home runs, they usually won. The problem is when you are in the playoffs those don't happen a lot so you need to steal bases and hit in the clutch with runners in scoring position and low avg. players don't often do it. How many times in the playoffs did Eric Chavez, or many of the other stars not hit with RISP. So many times. While the teams that had an expensive payroll, had guys that walked but they also could hit.
