The Border Itself
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.5 лет назад
The idea of establishing a Border Interpretative Centre for the new millennium (September 2000) came from a line in a performance by artist John Byrne in the late 90's. He obtained the use of this simple building, which had been a small shop located right on the border itself on the main Dublin-Belfast road. He was supported in all this by Norah Norton, then director of The Temple Bar Gallery a...
6:15 Bertie jumpscare!
Bertie really wanted to say not a chance 😂😂😂
Part time Patriot 😂
I loved this when I first saw it back as a teenager. Be very curious to recreate it nowadays.
I am certain the responses would be very different today.
I would fight for my country, but dying would be the last thing on my mind, you can do more being alive than being dead
"I think I have done, the way I'm feeling now" is a great answer.
There all mad
Best answer: I would if the money was right
Not anymore I be dying for foreign people
Very interesting; a simple question sprung out of the blue on strangers to gain a knee-jerk reaction. My immediate thought was... yes, yes I would die for Ireland. But in retrospect my real answer is yes, I would die to defend Ireland.
You may have gotten different answers if you went to N.Ireland in the seventies.
Amazing video.
Great video, John.
Why did you not ask any women ?
Hello Megan, I asked several women ( perhaps you haven't watched the whole video) In the final segment on O'Connell Bridge Dublin, I'd decided to engage male passersby only. I think this was influenced partly by experiences of a predominantly male insurgency as a youth in Belfast. If I was to do the piece again I would rectify the imbalance. Asking more women would've improved it.
@@johnbyrne1179 hahahah thanks John, well said.
I saw women?
@@johnbyrne1179 Would you consider doing it again?
He did
Poorly asked questions. If an invader was bombing your country and harming your friends and family would you resist or just put your hands up and hope they do not kill you?
You've missed the point a little bit. It's an intentionally vague question. An important part of the piece is how people interpret the question. That's what makes it so interesting. It's an artistic film piece, not a survey.
yes it's intentionally vague in order for the person asking to give an answer purely based on their own assumptions of what that might mean or entail, which is just as interesting as their straight answer itself.
im sorry i cant
Very simple question. Brilliant video. Poignant, whitty and informative. Shows the diversity of opinion and the independence of thought that exists in such a small country. You have gotta love the guy who says, "If the money is right".
