Project Seagrass is an environmental charity devoted to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems through education, influence, research and action.
Project Seagrass was created with the mission of turning cutting-edge research into effective conservation action and education schemes, by collaborating with local communities and other stakeholders. As a dedicated team of seagrass scientists, we work to protect seagrass, and through seagrass, we support marine conservation more broadly.

The planetary role of seagrass conservation
Просмотров 135Год назад
Seagrasses are remarkable plants that have adapted to live in a marine environment. They form extensive meadows found globally that bioengineer their local environments and preserve the coastal seascape. With the increasing realization of the planetary emergency that we face, there is growing interest in using seagrasses as a nature-based solution for greenhouse gas mitigation. However, seagras...

Hopes and Challenges for Seagrass Conservation | Benjamin Jones

Seagrass meadows have been utilised by people for centuries. The benefits they provide humans are numerous and have changed in scope as society has developed. In the past 100 years our connection to seagrass has evolved from seeing it as a resource for building to a resource that provides food security and livelihoods to millions. In the context of climate change and the visions for 2030 Agenda...

I’m about to buy Seagrass flooring for our house with the primary intention of being environmentally friendly-is the purchasing of seagrass flooring actually harmful to our environment?
I love everything about this panel. However, I strongly urge the speaker at the beginning to practice omitting "uh" during speaking. It makes listening very difficult.
If sea grass wanted to grow where they are planting it, it would be groweing there already.
in an ideal world, you're right. But loss has been so large that it cant recover easily.
This isn't true - 92% of UK seagrass meadows have been lost since the 1930's due to a variety of impacts (such as pollution from industry, mining and farming, destructive fishing practices such as dredging and bottom trawling and coastal development). Seagrass would be MUCH more widespread and common around the UK coastline if it wasn't due to these human impacts, so in turn we should be obligated to do something to reverse this.
Fantastic to catch up with the latest in seagrass protection and restoration, and congratulations on World Seagrass Day!
Many thanks!
My pleasure! Are the individual presentations available separately? They might be more accessible & digestible as bite-size chunks...Just a thought, easier for outsiders & raising profile through viewings?
@@gaiavoice They aren't available separately at the moment but thats a great idea 🌱
Im not trolling, genuinely and honestly. I just dont understand how you could want to help restore natural animal living spots only to then Harvest them in the food trade. I couldn't care about animals living in their rightful spots yet also eat them. How do you feel about this. By the way this is a Very well put together and interesting video none the less.
Thanks for your comments. Whilst i'm not a big fish eater myself I believe that fish have to be part of a complex jigsaw of supplying food to a human population of 9 billion. We need to fish in a sustainable manner and we need to create habitats like seagrass that support fish production, but i dont believe we can or should stop taking protein from the ocean.
I remember volunteering to fill & tie seed bags to rope at Swansea uni a couple of years ago, and would be happy to do do so again! Project Seagrass is a pioneering project, and I'm sure will eventually make a huge positive contribution to the UK's marine environment. It's vital work, congratulations on your achievemnts so far!
I'm sorry I had to give this the thumbs down, but we're in an existential climate emergency here and seagrass is vital to healthy marine ecosystems and carbon sequestration. The soundtrack is a lullaby, there is no sense of urgency or warning of climate tipping points and the threat seagrass poses as banks of historic carbon are released with ocean warming. Step it up guys!!
Very interesting, thank you. Seems like a no brainer to maintain sea grass and improve its population.
please explain how to plant each leaf blade of seeds , i assume pushed a little down into the sandy bed , covered and then at a space of about a few inches apart for each ? thanks
Great work guys! It would be wonderful to have these sea grass meadows planted all around the uk.
Excellent. I will go through your website in detail. Regards.
Bring Rohan back 💯💯💯
Yess
wish they would pan to the slides
Nice video abstract!
Good luck. Looking forward to hearing your success stories.
Interesting lecture about sea grass but just to point out CO2 does not have a big influence on climate. The industry that has set up around CO2 like this one is the outcome of putting money up for grabs.Sadly it makes the scientists into business managers having to support the fake climate crisis so they get money for their business . ruclips.net/video/ss5-mzxQoWc/видео.html

Hi!! I have actually been studying the meadows in the caribean and Goulf of Mexico. I really love this ecosistem. i would like to continue finding out all about it. i hope some day knowing other beds in other countries.
terimakasih, kebetulan saya ingin mengangkat lamun sebagai TA saya
Great! greetings from Indonesia, my name is hizrian irda, i'm working on seagrass carbon stock too in Indonesia, specifically in Sumbawa coast. how can i contact project seagrass to maybe disscuss about it? thanks!
Can I have your email?
Great...
very interesting important habitats clearly worth preserving.
