A day in the Firth of Forth area close to Edinburgh, exploring the village of South Queensferry, the Three Bridges (including the Forth Bridge, which has UNESCO World Heritage Site status). We also visited the Port Edgar Marina and caught a boat tour of the Firth, with the day's highlight being a long stop-off at Inchcolm Island to explore Inchcolm Abbey, founded in the 12th Century.

We stopped for a day at Akureyri, Iceland, in August 2023. We saw little of the town - instead we went south-east on a minibus tour that took us to the famous Goðafoss Waterfall, then Lake Mývatn, the Dimmubogir lava fields, Grjótagjá, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet, and the Hverir geothermal area. A great day.

Invergordon looks different now, all the oil tanks have been demolished.
nice one. i particularly like the fog
Great video John. The floating water purification rafts are interesting. You picked a great place to stay for the maritime history and activity.
I should add that the hotel has a lift.
I'm not sure about wheelchair access - it's not the sort of thing you notice when you don't need to. I suggest you ask the hotel. I asked several questions before we booked and they were very helpful. One of my questions to them was whether we could easily walk to the cruise passenger terminal. They replied that while it isn't a long walk, part of it is alongside a very busy street and might not be pleasant. They recommended a taxi and we took his advice. I think it cost about 20 Euros. There is always the Movenpic hotel, which is beside the cruise terminal. But more expensive and the surroundings are charmless. Getting to downtown (to the Centraal Railway Station): it's a fair walk - 1.9km - but on level ground that would be ok for wheelchairs (not cobbled). It's an interesting walk, but takes a bit of time. Eventually a very helpful woman from the hotel showed us a close-by stop for a frequent bus service. Simple to use - I just swiped my Wyse debit card. I imagine something like Visa would work the same.
We are going out of passenger terminal August 22. After watching your video I booked this hotel… Also, the price is better than anything else I've seen! I am in a power wheelchair. Do you believe it is an accessible building? Are there any stairs getting into the building? How close are you to city center? Is there public transportation? How did you get to passenger terminal?

Nice.
Islands at the end of the world! You almost think that Jules Verne invented them. Nice vid.
The Moriori are not nor ever have been a Māori tribe , they are separate Polynesian people with there own distinct culture & language. There is more in common between Cook Island Māori and NZ Māori than between Māori and Moriori .
The sailing barquentine "Island Lilly" (Captained by Robert Carnie) was stranded there. My Grandfather was a crewman aboard at the time.

On top of my bucket list, been to NZ twice, amazing country, next trip will be focused on the Chathams
Nice place but I wonder if I could ever have a chance to experience it someday. I guess it won't ever happen in my life time not only because of vast distance but also because of strict immigration.
Since the Covid pandemic eased, we've been welcoming tourists.
Very nice but since when has Britain been using km instead of miles, has the government done a big changeover completely to metric recently and done away with miles?
I am not British. I'm a New Zealander and we gave up on miles many years ago.
@@JohnMacG thanks John that makes perfect sense, I’m a Brit who lives in Wisconsin, l also didn’t pick up a New Zealand accent either so that could have given me an idea, cheers.

Very interesting! Thanks for a view of a place where few of us will ever have a chance to visit.
Been there, done the whole routine. Did you see the spot where Danny Hansford died? Or Jim Williams? Very interesting.........
Yes we did. Unfortunately photography was not permitted inside the house.
I’m Moroccan North Africa, I like to visit this place
ok o
...spooky!
Moriori are not a maori tribe , they are a related polynesian group
Sorry Karfo - Moriori are Māori - no two ways about it. At one time it was believed that Moriori settled the Chatham Islands directly from Polynesian islands, but it is now clear that, like other Maori tribes (aka iwi), they travelled south from Polynesia to Aoteoroa/New Zealand. They were just another of the Māori tribes (or iwi) that lived here, like Ngāpuhi in Auckland or Ngai Tahu in the South Island. Around 1500, the Moriori moved to the Chatham Islands, east of the New Zealand mainland. They developed a partly distinct culture, due to isolation and a different physical environment. For similar reasons, there are cultural differences between Ngai Tahu and Ngāpuhi. But they are all Maori tribes.
Yes John you are correct
@@JohnMacG Moriori are not a Maori tribe or an iwi, every Maori tribe has one thing in common they are the tanga ta whenua of Aotearoa or the people of the land of NZ . Moriori are not tanga ta whenua of Aotearoa they are tchakat Henu of Rekohu . Imi Moriori tribal history says they came in 2 main groups possibly more one direct from Polynesia and one from NZ , in any case they are a different Polynesian people that developed a completely different culture ,the Moriori language is a Polynesian language in its own right and not a dialect of Maori The Cook Island Maori have more in common with Maori than they do .When Ngati Mutunga and Ngati Tama invaded in 1836 they most certainly did not view Moriori as a Maori tribe but u think u know better , better even than Moriori themselves . Even when remains are returned from museums overseas itis Maori and Moriori remains not simply Maori as would be the case if they were just a tribe .
@@MrSicc274 No John is confused or simply ignorant .Moriori are not Maori
@@karfomachet7265 Maori Moriori are the same race. Do your research

It’s beautiful place, thank you for showing it to us. Just what’s needed in these times of lockdown, especially as I live in the West end of London, to see a place so picturesque and a place I have wanted to visit for a long time now.. it’s great you’ve put this video together.
turville is really gorgeous i love the village Mr. macgibbon

Thank you for adding the beautiful music to the lovely photographs instead of that awful banjo Kentucky coal miners crappy music. Don't understand narrow boaters showing the most serene views then add the worst loud music. Thank you.
