    I think that the ball assembly is swinging because the clock base is not level. I think that the center shaft of the ball assy should be on center when it pivots.

    My clock is just like this one, how to you slow down or speed up clock, i am not understanding whats printed on clock movement , where is the mechanism that achieves this

    • @Megalocade
      @Megalocade 4 года назад

      Providing the balance wheel is identical to the one in this video the speed is adjusted by sliding the 3 fork disc on top of the balance wheel left for slower and right to speed up, each hole on the main wheel represents 10 seconds per day, if your running fast like gaining 10, 20 mins a day then the wheel isn't spinning fast enough, it should spin near to 360' in both directions if its only doing it to 180 then either the wheel is binding or the balance wheel spring is off beat, worse case it's either a dirty movement or weak main spring. If your clock has the later floating escapement then speed is adjusted by the long screw top right just above the balance wheel, turn clockwise go gain time and anticlockwise to slow down.

    I'm new to these clocks and I appreciate the end of your video where you show the full rotation. I inherited a midget Schatz which I lost the key to and just got it running a few months back after I bought another key. That one was in perfect condition. I also got a 2 for 1 deal on "broken" Schatz and Kundo standards at an antique store. After replacing a missing suspension spring and working on the beat, adjustment wheel, and ball position, they've both been running this past week. What kind of accuracy are you getting on yours? I've heard people say they get +/- 2 mins per week on theirs. I'm lucky if I get that in a day. I'm sure both need a disassembly and cleaning.

    Dear Mr. Richardson: I have a Kundo 400 Day clock which is about 45 years old. The pendulum assembly is with Brand new .0032" suspension spring. The end blocks and the fork are set up according to the Horolovar recommended dimensions for this clock based on back plate configuration. The problem is the pallets and escape wheel don't seem to engage properly while the pendulum is in motion ending in a dead clock. Also the pendulum slows down and stops after a short time. I tried adjusting the fork in various positions (minute positions up/down on the suspension spring, inverted fork position etc.), adjusting the pendulum (fast, slow etc), leveling the clock base etc.I have read available clock repair information connected with the clock but I must be missing some thing pertaining to the problem. I was contemplating adjustment to the pallets, but that means I have to take the clock apart which I have never done before (amature). Also, it's been advised not to adjust the pallets positions set at the factory. It could be a tall order but I will very much appreciate if you can advise me for any solution/s. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Jay Nadkarni jaybirdwalk@yahoo.com

    • @JamesRichardsonOrg
      @JamesRichardsonOrg 6 лет назад

      It could be a number of things. The most common solutions are below. 1. gummed up pinions: If you gently rock the pallets back and forth with your finger and see if the wheel and all the pinions are loose and not gummed up with dry oil. If the pinions are sticky and have too much resistance you will want to lube the pivot hole and keep starting the clock till the oil soaks in. 2. Mainspring sticking: If the clock is fully wound and the escape wheel has no power to it and the pinions are not sticky, you will need to let down the mainspring to unstick it and try winding it again or you will need to fully let down the mainspring and disassemble the mainspring barrel and spring to inspect it. (**IMPORTANT!!! You must use a let down tool and properly let the spring down. See this tool link www.clockworks.com/products/clock-mainspring-let-down-tool-set ) It may need mainspring lube or the spring tension is worn out. 3. Out of beat: The pallets must be in a specific distance and at a specific position over the escapement wheel for it to have the proper power and release of power. 4. Fork misaligned: Although the Horolover book is great, some clocks like the fork in a specific spot. If its too low or too high it can cause resistance to prevent the fork from gliding on the stem that moves the pallets. Hope this helps. James

    I bought this exact clock at a garage sale. brought it home, it would work for 15 ins or so and stop. so, i figured out how to level it and i turned the top screw to get it in beat (guess i did that right). now it runs and does not stop. it is about 8 mins slow on 24 hours. i understand you stop the clock and turn that wheel in the direction of the "+" to speed it up, 1/4 turn = 4 mins faster. does that sound right? so, i would need 1/2 turn toward the plus. i saw a video where a guy said you turn the wheel past where you need, then bring it back to where you want it, not just right to the spot. does that make sense? I love this clock. how do you know yours is 1976? guy at garage sale said his family had it since the 50's.

    I'm a little afraid of mine. Before I found out how dangerous this particular model was I oiled it and examined the spring under the cover. It was fully wound. Come to find out later I learned this clock is considered to be the most dangerous clock ever made. The plastic drums can fail at any time causing the spring to unravel with enough power to explode the clock and the glass globe. Mine is running fine in my bedroom. Guess I'll leave it along but not happy about the fact it might explode. They call this clock the German Time Bomb.....GREAT!! Are they really that dangerous to run them?

    Also referred to as the German Time Bomb. Has a reverse wound spring on a plastic hub that can break resulting in the clock exploding sending glass and fragments of spring metal throughout the room.
