How to winch a really big tree!

Winching a huge old beech that fell down off of the track that it landed on, to clear the track and keep the lovely big tree in one piece looking far better than it would with a load of saw cuts in it.

making a pencil holder on the lathe

Ok so here I'm making a pencil holder on the lathe to go in a desk with a bit of nice back on it. The timber is very slow growing ash so it won't split as it dries. sorry about the camera angle had to do it on my phone as the go-pro wasn't around.

Halo thinning trees
Просмотров 4477 лет назад
A video of us felling mostly silver birch round big old Oak trees to give them so light and space to continue growing. The term halo thinning mean that we are taking out trees all the way round the old tree in a 'halo'. We are using Husqvarna saws and a Krapan 9.5 tonne winch to fell/ which assist the trees. This is the first one of. These tree videos where the sawyer was wearing proper PPE ! With the angle of the wind blown tree he had no chose but to saw it near the tree base an using the chain an cable around the trunk was a safe way to handle this in this situation , good job!!!
That's how you get rid of a dead body you place it in the rootball hole and no one will ever move the stump !!
I normally freeze body then fire through chipper into a river
I have a oak just a little smaller than this one (prob 6-12inch smaller in diameter), about 300' in the forest. You think i can do it with a 2ton hand winch? Or 3ton?
what sort of accuracy do you get with the cut width on the stenner?
Depends on the log partly but it tends to be fairly accurate
@@calebnewton3261 nice, iv been looking for a mill for a while and one has come up fairly close to me for not a lot of money
Very Good 👍👌😊
1:32 LOZ!!!
What's even funnier is the look you get at 6:52. The 'really?????' look followed by a giggle. We've all had that lol.
Cat 300d is a better excavator
Good Job!!
I need a winch, don't have anything that big on my place, but I do have a tree all jammed up and I haven't been able to get it out yet. Thanks and have a blessed week. Subbed you as well sir.
Heartland Outdoor Living they are very impressive what you can do with them. We couldn't cope without them now!
Interesting. I'm going to attempt the same cut but didn't know what to expect...
:) A lucky escape for the tape measure! Resaws usually take no prisoners..... Great video, thanks for uploading
yes saws in general take no prisoners when it come to tapes!!
Nice little machine. I often hear people say "Huh, they aren't big enough to be any good" Okay, you use a spade and I'll sit on the 1 tonner.... It's incredible what they will do in a day and where they can get to. Nice vid.
thanks yes it really beats a spade and is so much more fun! and surprising what you can do with it
nice one, very interesting machine
Thanks its a very good at what its made to do, if i was to build one i would making it stronger! but it works fine you just have to be careful with it!!
Nice one Caleb, from the ashridgevolunteersblog
Thanks Rowan
You'll have to do a walkround on the Claas.
Lord Muck yes will do at some point its a nice bit of kit
The movement of the shadows as time passes is brilliant.
I like the fast forward stuff - you see the changes quite clearly.
Lord Muck yes its nice to see the difference from start to finish, but seems like a lot of work summed up in a minute and a half!
Great job, is it ash wood?
thanks Paul F yes it is ash but very tight grained and has been inside drying for 2ish years so shouldn't split!
At least you've got lots of fresh hamster bedding.... Nice seeing you working a bit of wood down. Be good to see more of this sort of stuff.
yes lots of dust! thanks hope to do more videos like this in the future just maybe a bit better angle!
I take it they were home grown posts ?
yes home grown sweet chestnut post that was 11 by 11 inches!
Nice !
should do it for the next 20 years or so. its a great feeling when you have made it go from having to lift it to open it to just giving it a little push and it swings!
die säge ist der letzte scheiss...........
why did you not just directionally fell using wedges to halo, seems a very long winded way to thin around the oaks and not make much money .
We do use wedges where possible but a lot of these trees are leaning into the old oak trees and since we have the winch it actually makes it easier to put the winch on the tree rather than hammer away at the high lift wedges for 5 mins! Its a very satisfying feeling when you can make the tree go from leaning one way to go the other way with the push of a button. :)
I like seeing woodland managed like that rather than being let to go to crap and rot out.
yes it is good to manage it, its a shame that the price of timber has meant that most people just don't bother.
You had much rain ?
this past weekend there was a lot yes!
Posts ? or some other use ? Another good vid.
Lord Muck yes they are posts they will be used as way marker posts.
You're churning lots of timber out this week ! Do you spend the winter months going and repairing stuff ?
+ Lord Muck only spent 2 days in there just took the opportunity to make a few videos from it! the winter is mostly tree felling will be more videos on that to come.
I love watching stuff being transformed in the mill. Takes a bit of skill to turn out nice stuff.
thanks it is a very nice thing to be able to produce our own timber to use from the logs grown on the estate
You turn out some nice timber in there.
+Lord Muck thanks it can be very nice but that depends a lot on what the timber is like and this last batch was very nice!
Do you treat the timber at all ?
+Lord Muck no we don't treat the timber as there isn't really any need for it. The timber is sweet chestnut which is a native hardwood which will last 20+ years in the ground so saves us using the chemicals.
That's really good then. Is any sold or is it all used on the estate ?
mostly just used on the estate as its not set up as a commercial mill which makes it very hard to make money
Well it made a great video !
thanks watch out for more!
That Botex is a handy bit of kit. Where are you based ?
+Lord Muck yes it is very handy and versatile for what we need. I am based Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire way (uk)
Oh bloody hell ! Not far away then (well, same country !) Are you contracting to a bigger organisation or working on an estate ?
Working on an estate for the National Trust
Nice vid. What equipment are you using to haul that timber ?
+Lord Muck The tractor is a Valtra A95 (90hp) with and Botex 570 (12 ton). glad you enjoyed it.
Caleb Newton good machines. I've spent a bit of time on a 150hp Valtra. Nice video.
