You don't have to buy stain pint by pint or quart by quart. You can buy stain base and colorant. Might cost a bit up front but not much more than buying dozens of can of miscellaneous stain colors. I'll show you a simple way to save alot of money over time and make your work look the way you intended it to. It's gonna save you a TON of time. Meanwhile, this is a dual-purpose video because I go ...

Klearvue Kitchen Cabinet Installation
Просмотров 343Месяц назад
I was asked to give advice on a Klearvue kitchen cabinet installation from Menards. Not realizing that it would be way more involved than what the homeowner was ready for. This cabinet package was sold to the homeowner with the understanding that it was simple, straightforward and easy enough for just about anyone to put together. That's just not the case. You'll need special tools, and a backg...

Lots of homes have old ceiling tiles and most times they are failing and ugly. They are stapled up but eventually the start to fall away from the wood grid they were once attached to. They only seem to get worse. Until NOW! This is an easy solution for the DIY or even a beginner carpenter or handy man to do.

This is the go-to method to framing around ductwork in a lower level. Maximizes head room and it's straighter and stronger than the usual method of 2x2 framing we see out there. This actually makes you look like a professional.
Shelving Display with Illumination

Fabricate a display board and use LED lights to illuminate your display. If you miter fold the sides, you can add a French cleat to hang the display and hide wires if you like. This is a very simple project that anyone can do and pretty inexpensive. @ClarkYoungblood

Making Laminate Shims
Просмотров 422 месяца назад
When installing cabinetry or door systems, I DO NOT used the typical wood shim from the home center. With cabinetry, I use dense materials such a s MDF, laminate and even playing cards. With door systems, I use the composite or plastic shims. Wood shims, especially softwood shims shrink, crush, expand and contract. And I've discovered over time and going back to old work, my door systems aren't...

      Thank you! I’ve tried just about every method there is to apply edge banding. I’m most comfortable using a file but it does take practice. My favorite part about this video is the thermal adhesion part. When I first learned about this, a good friend of mine ( and an amazing furniture maker) showed me that you could “edge band” something 6” wide and 8’ long! He showed me an example in his home and I was blown away. Well, learning that really opens doors and can simplify a build.

    I have learned that I am only doing real artwork about 1/4 of my time, with the rest going to prep work, set-up, clean-up, and teardown. With that in mind, I find it understandable to be impatient and excited to get at it. I do the same thing to one extent or another on probably every art project i start, it keeps things exciting

      I had a large shop once and it looked like a hospital room. I thought I’d be so efficient in that space because I had so much room. But I was a slave to it. I feel less like a slave in my at home shop but I regret not taking some time to prepping my “ Operating Room” This comes down to simply establishing a strategy for the “Operation” Part of that gets in the way of raw creating, but creating in a space that bothers me is counterproductive to a degree. So, as I balance all this, I’m happy with striving to at least improve my practice.

      Thanks Ponch! I’m just starting this journey and having a lot of fun with it. I’ve got a long way to go but I’m committed to showing people what I’ve learned. There’s a shortage of skilled craftsmen in our society and it’s growing. This has concerned me for quite some time now so I’m trying to encourage people to know more about woodworking, cabinetry, architecture millwork, art and design. It’s important to me to share what I know because the path all of those things have taken me on has been amazing and I have a fear that young people, the next generation, are going to miss out on what has given me so much. My career has taken me everywhere. From Boston to Honolulu and damn near every major city in the United States. I’ve worked for the wealthiest people on earth and rubbed shoulders with the most talented craftsmen all while being the underdog, uneducated normal person. And that’s most of us. But luckily, I had great mentors who saw that I was willing to learn and I was interested. So they gave me their time because they knew I’d make good use of it. These days, people don’t want to teach young people the trades. They don’t want to “waste” their time. I don’t think it’s a “waste” of time, I think it’s important and necessary. As content creation, I’m still in the infancy phase and have so far to go. But I promise to improve and people like you are helping me know it’s worth the effort. It’s not easy for me because I’m long winded and a story teller. I’m trying to engage with a society that’s only interested in instant results and gratification. I’m trying to show them a subject that takes time and patience and that sense of accomplishment WILL come, but you’ll have to work for it, you’ll have to be patient and somehow know from the start that it’s not a “waste” of your time and it may be necessary. With the help of our dear friends, Josh, Brian and Bertrand, I’m making mental adjustments to try to convey lengthy subject matter into short messages. All of this subject matter came to me over the course of an entire lifetime and an interesting path so, try to tell someone the thought process in a few short minutes is… well, tough for me to do. Thank you for joining me and stay tuned. I’ve got ALOT to share!

    • @ClarkYoungblood
      @ClarkYoungblood Месяц назад

      I made jigs for years. Not really a big deal but, sometimes for my day to day routine, the only thing I have to do is a few odds and ends on a project and I’m trying to minimize the tool set up required to make a jig. It’s a a real luxury now that I can skip those steps. Not chop saw, sometimes table saw, looking for that right piece of material…Then loading it all back up in the van, vacuum up the dust, etc.
